Audion

As previously mentioned, Mutek, the annual "electronic music and digital creativity festival", happens in Montral from May 28-June 1 this year.

As not yet mentioned, NYC is getting a little electronic festival of its own in September and appropriately enough, they're calling it MINITEK....

Minitek

Details are still forthcoming, but here's what we know so far... minitek will run September 12-14, ticket presales start June 2, and the lineup, with more to be announced, is shaping up to be damn good.

Richie Hawtin
Marco Carola
Guy Gerber
Magda
Troy Pierce
Audion
Martin Buttrich
Paco Osuna
Konrad Black
Guido Schneider
Davide Squillace
Paul Ritch
Pan-Pot
Butane
Camea
[obscene NYC]

Keep your eye on the Minitek festival website for more details.

no this looks like a minimoo event
their motto is 'strictly no vocals' and strive for 'homogeneous crowd'
both of which seem at odds with the history, integrity and development of electronic music

richie and svennie have pretty fantasy make-up party!

just call it mini DEMF, or detroit/windsor takes over NYC and makes all the kids wish they were raised in a post industrial waste land.

true, 12:21. the strictly no vocals thing bothered me. i went to one of the parties, and the "strictly no melody" policy bothered me even more. strictly no funk, really.

Totally--going to see fucking Hot Chip for the umpteenth time is a MUCH more acceptable event within NYC hipster circles. Totally.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2008 2:41 PM

there's a difference between hot chip and richie hawtin. richie hawtin used to be incredible, wheras hot chip always sucked.

If you dont like minimal music, dont go. You all can go out and dance to the watered down, regurgitated 'post punk' that this blog constantly writes about on September 12th and 13th.

I'll be dancing till dawn with the rest of this city's Eurotrash population to Audion, Davide Squillace, Troy Pierce and the rest of this awesome line up.

P.S. all you haters wish you could get on the list to Minimoo each month. Easily one of New York's best kept secrets.

P.P.S Texture > Vocals

invite-only minimal techno parties? be still my heart!

Posted by magda, make the tea | May 20, 2008 3:40 PM

minimal is dying. long live disco!

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2008 3:43 PM

this is a minimoo driven festival. although they are known for deep minimal, this lineup is varied and should showcase a variety of techno styles. i think if anything its good for new york to bring a organized festival style party into the open. the likes of which we haven't seen since the rave days. maybe next year will get even better and broader. minimal is definitely a polarizing genre and to each his own, but support of any electronic dance music is appreciated.

^^
This couldn't be further from the truth minimoo pulls in one the most diverse crowds I have ever seen before in the city. I have met people from all over the world at these parties. It has single handedly reignited the dormant techno scene in new york and has given a number of artists a place to perform in new york that normally wouldn't or couldn't before. Respect where respect is do. And to who ever posted that there is "strictly no funk" to the music there you obviously don't know what your talking about or have not been before b/c Memek the resident dj at these parties plays dark funky minimal.

this party attracts the same d-bags from all the various d-bag cities of the world, so i guess thats kinda diverse, haha!! reignited the ny techno scene? it singlehandedly made me not want to ever go to another techno show ever again, thank god it's not the only party. only an amateur jazz musician in high school would say that vocals are stupid so obviously the musical integrity involved is laughable. bullshit where bullshit is due, thanks pink socks!!

^^
You stand alone w/ comments like that and probably don't really like techno to begin with. I know also that europeans probably "scare" you because you are socially inept and they are by enlarge very social and expressive. I can see why you and your kind would have absolute disdain for minimoo. So piss off and stay within your particular hipster circle and stand by and watch from the distance the most cutting edge electronic music festival to happen in nyc ever.

I'm excited. I'll be there!

Why is everyone on this blog so negative?

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2008 2:28 PM

bye n large

"your kind"

ie not part of the "homogeneous crowd"

wow! awesome

insert smartass hipster nudge to techno music because you're so much cooler than that... here.
