hit it x 2

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2008 1:24 PM

certainly beats paying for it at Webster Hall

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2008 1:26 PM

Christ...Was 'praying' when I opened it it would say they were playing at Maxwells.

Wishful thinking. Psyched to see them at Webster Hall though.

Hit it x 2 with a jar of mayo

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2008 2:05 PM

breeders + mccarren park pool = show of the summer.

Tig ol' bitties!

Posted by DJ Max Power | May 1, 2008 4:55 PM

so AWESOME! SO fucking awesome. So motherfucking AWESOME! FUCK!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2008 4:59 PM

I'd let Kim munch my funjuns any day, ya heard!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2008 5:01 PM

Wait, that sounds sexist. I would be an honor and a privilege to have my funjuns munched by Ms Deal. Especially if she let me put my slim jim in her strawberry milkshake, naw wut I'm sayin?

Webster Hall tickets back on sale.

I've heard they're not letting any more people into McCarren Pool. It's full, apparently. Wah-wah.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 4:25 PM

They stopped letting people in, yes. Full? Hell no it wasn't full. Lamest free concert ever,

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 7:19 PM

"Lamest free concert ever"

Anon7:19pm're fucking crazy and obviously weren't inside the pool. Matt & Kim brought the fun times as always, only this time with a full marching band! Plus I've never heard the pool have such good sound at a free Sunday show as it had for The Breeders' set. Sorry but try as you just can't rain on today's fun ass parade. Between this, the Todd P. Yard show yesterday and the F Yeah tour tonight at Exit, this will go down as one of the best music weekends of the Summer!

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 7:41 PM

Right genius, I wasn't inside because they stopped letting people in even though it wasn't full! Breeders sounded pretty good from outside, I especially love the new ice cream truck chimes player.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 8:03 PM

so maybe show up before the headliner, and stop being such a fucking scenester.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 8:15 PM

^^^Truly sorry you didn't get in. That shit sucks when and wherever it happens. But it's not fair to say it was "the lamest free concert ever" if you didn't get in to see it. You have every right to complain about how the venue intake was managed...but not the concert itself...that's all I'm trying to say.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 8:18 PM

Didn't get in. I got to the gates, waited 40 min or so, then someone said something about the fire marshall and already being at full capacity.

They should/could have told us we were waiting for nothing. If they didn't know, they should/could have told us that too.

It was a trying 40 min.... those of us as the front of the line watched perhaps 100s of people leave, all the while we were not let in. Meanwhile, the Breeeders began their set.

Does this sort of thing happen at every free show?

Posted by telepet | July 13, 2008 8:36 PM

So what do you guys think? Popularity nexus of the Breeders crowd and Matt & Kim crowd, or has Williamsburg finally reached its transplant capacity?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 8:43 PM

Great time at the pool today! The Breeders were a lot of fun. Sorry for those who didn't get in. I guess it's good to line up pretty early.

Posted by NewmRadio | July 13, 2008 8:48 PM

Yeah well the lamest free concert ever has gotta be Altamont, but that truly reeks when you go to a free show, its not full, people are leaving, and they dont let you in. Just reeks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 9:13 PM

I think Kim Deal is more fun with The Breeders than with The Pixies.... cause of all their tension. Thought the breeders were great today........ and 3 songs from the amps....... can't complain

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 9:16 PM

When the pool's "full" it doesn't look full. The non-free shows that sell out never look full so it's got to be a code thing.

The Breeders are by far the best selling Pool Party act ever. There can't be a close second, right? Last Splash went platinum. Assuming there wouldn't be a huge line for the first sunny pool show of the year and for such a big act would make an ass out of u and mption. Go figure that free stuff hits capacity.

Queue someone saying the Breeders and Last Splash being big a decade ago....

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 10:31 PM

I ended up waiting about 45mins to an hour to get in at around 4:30pm. The line was pretty much not moving and then when Matt & Kim ended a lot of people were let in. Not sure if it was because people left or they were just letting people in between the artist's sets. Anyway, glad I waited. Best free show I've seen in a while.

Sound was awesome. The Breeders rocked. Kim was definitely more into this than when I saw her with The Pixies.

Posted by anon | July 13, 2008 11:12 PM

guys hate to say this but you should not feel bad if you missed this show, because to be honest the Breeders weren't really good. ok better than the Feelies, but still not great. They have 2 good songs and thats it. Pretty much you have to admit Matt and Kim outplayed them and I never thought I would say that.

Not nearly as good a show as Ted Leo last year, or the show when Dan Deacon played. It will not go down as the best show. ALSO, I dont know how they establish attendance or whatever but it wasnt packed nearly as much as some other shows, yes even TVOR last year was more packed. there was so much space who makes these decisions to shut the door? I just dont understand, I hate the city marshals cops or whoever is ruining the things for everybody.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 12:07 AM

I don't have to admit Matt and Kim outplayed The Breeders. 2 good songs? Really? Ted Leo? Dan Deacon? Jesus..

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:28 AM

it was pretty full, guys. good show, especially for a free show, but les savy fav was still the best, before they had built up all the huge stage nonsense and it felt new and refreshing to hang out in the big pool. and they had free range chicken sausage, but no squirt guns..
the breeders have way more than two good songs, 12:07 was either trying to get breeders fans panties in a bunch or is simply a hipster twat who actually believes that ted leo and dan deacon are better than the breeders...

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:35 AM

Matt and Kim outlplayed the Breeders? HA HA HA

Matt and Kim are an embarrassment.

The Breeders are a real band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:00 AM

Matt and Kim are ridiculous hipster garbage.

If you have to bring two cute little children, a marching band and dancers on stage with you to wow the crowd, it shows that you are seriously lacking musically.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:03 AM

^^^No marching band huh? I guess Sigor Ros aren't real musicians either. No dancers huh? I guess the Happy Mondays, Madness and pretty much every R&B/Hip Hop artist that ever exiseted suck too. You sound ridiculous Anon11:03.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:08 AM

hey you know you went to see the Breeders and thats fine, thats your thing. all im saying I think any neutral observer with eyes and ears could tell you Matt and Kim and the Rude Mechanical Orchestra stole the show / were much better on this day.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:09 AM

Oh come on, you can put a marching band and sexy teenage cheerleading dancers and two adorable little girls on a stage with anyone and they'd steal the show from anyone. That has nothing to do with Matt and Kim vs. The Breeders.

That's like saying the little kittens and puppy dogs stole the show from the real actors in the film.

Take the marching band, little children and cheerleeders away and Matt and Kim by themselves absolutely would not outplay the Breeders.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:49 AM

If you start out with talent and add a marching band, you have talent plus a marching band. If you start off as hipster posers and add a marching band all you have is a marching band.

There's nothing wrong with a great R&B artist adding dancers, tons of extra musicians, etc. as long as they are starting out with something really strong as the foundation.

I.E. Matt and Kim are no James Brown.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:52 AM

11:49 I can agree with that, however the point is they did have all those extra ingredients, thats why i said getting Rude Mechanical Orchestra for this show was a masterstroke.
