there was a fire @ Zebulon, TVOTR-lite played Union Pool
As pointed out yesterday in the comments, "TV on the Radio (members)" were scheduled to play a benefit show at Union Pool last night. The benefit was for "a small but damaging fire" that happened last Sunday at Zebulon (another music venue in the same Brooklyn neighborhood). According to someone that went,
tv on the radio were pretty rad last night - no kyp and a fill-in drummer - but they kicked out some new jams that sounded awesome.According to someone else I talked to, they only played six songs. Zebulon is currently closed. According to their MySpace,

The owners of Zebulan are HUGE assholes and I like EVERYBODY. I feel this is karma releated.

Zebulon is such a great place, sorry to hear about the fire. Granted, the acts in this past year haven't been as good as years past, but it's always a fun time.

Zebulon is one of the few venues in NYC that is run by true music lovers. All you need to do is look at the album covers scattered around the ceiling and walls (or at least the ones that used to be) to know that the people who run it have a genuine affinity for music and for what they are doing.
As an artist that has performed there many, many times over the years, I am grateful to them for maintaining a performance space that I so enjoy playing at. They LOVE what they do, and in turn musician LOVE playing there. Running a club in NYC is not easy, and yet in the midst of this crazy city its inspiring to see this tiny room do what it has done.
To see someone dismiss the owners as "assholes" makes me incredibly angry. Are you a music fan? I assume you are "anonymous" because you are reading this blog, but c'mon - how can you possibly be kicking them when they are down? Maybe you don't like the style of music they program there, maybe you think they watered down your drink - you failed to identify your beef with them. But seriously, anyone who runs an establishment that provides me and my fellow musicians with an opportunity to perform in a city that is increasingly hostile to musicians deserves respect.
