What is the closest city to NY? Atlanta?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:45 AM

Fuck yeah, the Plaza!

Posted by anonymous2 | May 5, 2008 9:45 AM

Columbus is probably closer.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:47 AM

Columbus is about 1 hour -15 minutes closer (plane ride)

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:48 AM

Knoxville might be the closest to NYC

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:49 AM

Atlanta might be worth it - since it is at the Fox theater - that shit is historic and cool.

great acoustics as well.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:50 AM

Yeah Atlanta might be the show to check out if you guys want to get out and see one. Just based on theater and city.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:50 AM

this is some bullshit. he only played the south last time too. c'mon tom, do one last big tour. add some dates. how good has NYC been to you?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:51 AM

Columbus and Knoxville are about the same distance from NYC

Columbus - 565 miles
Knoxville - 585 miles
Atlanta - 850 miles
El Paso - 2175 miles

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:54 AM

Tom Waits is soft

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:56 AM

who the hell would want to be in phoenix in june?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:57 AM

>

he's tom waits, rules don't apply to him. quit bitching.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:57 AM

mmmm...the deep south in July

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:58 AM

As I said in the other post, I don't mind traveling to see Tom Waits, I did so two years ago, but these cities are not worth visiting. Columbus?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 9:58 AM

Columbus is nice. Germantown is cool! Ohio State is there...good bars etc..

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:00 AM

Don't worry I'm sure ScarJo will do a date at the Hiro or something. Viva NYC.

Posted by J | May 5, 2008 10:03 AM

Columbus might be nice, but is it worth the cost of a flight and hotel? Last time around he played Memphis, Chicago, Louisville, all great spots to visit. Mobile?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:07 AM

Fuck it, I'm going to Columbus. Any idea when tickets go on sale, & how much they will be?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:07 AM

Hopefully Casey won't be playing drums this time around.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:10 AM

HA!!! where the fuck is that nick cave ass that said waits was definitely coming to nyc? serve his head on a platter, now! last time i saw waits it was not casey, but brain from primus on drums.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:18 AM

SEE YOU BUSTERS IN EL PASO!!!!!!

Posted by Brussel Sprout | May 5, 2008 10:19 AM

Fuck Yeah...the Atlanta show is the same night as Fleet Foxes...and they're just down the street from each other...I hope going to both shows pans out.

Posted by D.D.D.Dave | May 5, 2008 10:19 AM

Brain was behind the kit in 04. Casey was the drummer for the orphans tour in 06. ONce again Tom is hitting some areas he hasn't played in decades. He doesn't owe NYC anything.

Posted by Javier Buchananeversonia | May 5, 2008 10:34 AM

Where are the fools who slept on Nick Cave tix because Mr. Waits was "definitely" playing an NY show around the same time?

ps - never listen to people who have "inside info"

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:35 AM

when are tickets going on sale?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:41 AM

"ONce again Tom is hitting some areas he hasn't played in decades."

He played in Atlanta last time around. He also played close to Knoxville and Columbus in 06. A few of those cities are new, but are nothing exciting. Let's see how the euro tour pans out.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:41 AM

"...the Atlanta show is the same night as Fleet Foxes...and they're just down the street from each other...I hope going to both shows pans out."

Where to begin, where to begin?!?!?!?!!!????!

Seeing Fleet Foxes after Towm Waits in the same night is the epitome of an anticlimatic experience!!!

I really hope a Dan Deacon show is announced on the same night as the Nick Cave show....WOW! DD's worthless 10 minute career will be the icing on an otherwise semi-disappointing evening.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:45 AM

He IS going to Europe, so hopefully he will do a couple Northeast shows on the way back.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:48 AM

I'm SURE there will be more dates announced soon.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 10:55 AM

"I'm SURE there will be more dates announced soon."

There will be no more dates. This tour is already longer than the one two years ago. He only added one other show last time around.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 11:09 AM

HAHAHA! St. Louis finally!

Posted by Eric | May 5, 2008 11:18 AM

Does anybody have any info regarding tickets?

Posted by feedbacker | May 5, 2008 11:19 AM

Interesting choices of cities. Does texas deserve that much Tom Waits action. How bout playing some blue states.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 11:26 AM

>>I'm SURE there will be more dates announced soon.

yeeeaaahhh. why don't you take that line of thinking and jump off a bridge. you and your inside information can go get bent, my friend. he is most definitely NOT adding dates. dude, it's tom waits. he doesn't even "tour" so much as he does a handful of dates. signed, sealed, delived...that's it. what you see listed is where he's playing, and then he goes back into hibernation for a few years.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 11:32 AM

^^why are you so bitter?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 11:41 AM

No NYC? Lightweight.

Posted by Ron Mwangaguhunga | May 5, 2008 11:49 AM

i don't know why you people think nyc deserves shows. i live here and it doesn't deserve anything.

the european tour will be the shit. now those are great cities.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 12:01 PM

Supposedly, the Superjam at Bonnaroo this year will be Tom Waits, Les Claypool, Kirk Hammett, and the dude from Gogol Bordello.

That should be announced later today or tomorrow.

So now I invite some folks to slam me for spreading rumors.

I further invite those same folks to come back to the board and apologize when this info is confirmed.

Posted by Loyd Ramberhose | May 5, 2008 12:01 PM

"Supposedly, the Superjam at Bonnaroo this year will be Tom Waits, Les Claypool, Kirk Hammett, and the dude from Gogol Bordello. "

That jam already happened this past weekend at the Roma festival in California:

http://www.voiceofroma.com/culture/herdeljezi.shtml

Not saying they will not repeat it, but I think the Bonnaroo rumor was started after this jam happened. I doubt it will happen again.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 12:10 PM

"I doubt it will happen again."

i pray you are correct.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 12:16 PM

"i don't know why you people think nyc deserves shows. i live here and it doesn't deserve anything.

the european tour will be the shit. now those are great cities."

We don't need unappreciative bastards here. Please move to Europe. People like you will always complain wherever they live, but at least it'll be one less lowlife to deal with here.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 12:39 PM

that jam is the opening slot for the beatles getting back together at coachella next year. you heard it here first.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 12:46 PM

Is Santogold opening/designing the posters?

Posted by MIA | May 5, 2008 1:19 PM

The jam is of Tom Waits songs. TW himself will not be there.

"So now I invite some folks to slam me for spreading rumors."

Just did. Nice try trying to spread bullshit rumors.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 1:26 PM

I heard there was some talk of tom waits playing a 2 week set at terminal 5.

Posted by jim | May 5, 2008 1:31 PM

^ sorry, jim, that's bullshit. just like all your other posts.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 1:42 PM

I traveled to two cities to see him on the last tour. I'll travel again this time. Yes, he is Tom Waits and can do whatever he wants. However if NYC is not on the next "tour," that's it for me. It'll be like divorcing someone you're in love with because you can only take so much BS. A big portion of people I've talked to at previous shows had traveled from NY and other big cities just to see him. Every once in a while it's nice for an artist to have a tour of smaller places, but ignoring the places with most people who want to see him and making fans spend their hard earned money on flights and lodging is anything but.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 1:45 PM

i heard anon 1:42 loves reading my posts

Posted by jim | May 5, 2008 1:52 PM

Anon 1:45pm, I agree. I went to Nashville and Chicago, and while they were both great, it would be nice not to travel for every single tour. Before that I saw him in the UK, but that was by chance, not planned. Seen him three times, and never in my hometown.

I am skipping this time around because of timing. I wish the Phoenix shows were closer to the weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 2:04 PM

anyone know when tickets go on sale?

Posted by dc | May 5, 2008 2:11 PM

looks like 5/17 will be the sale date
$82.50 for columbus

i went to four cities last tour
will have to scale back this time around

Posted by Javier Buchananeversonia | May 5, 2008 2:40 PM

I should add that on the last tour, with the exception of Chicago, everyone I spoke to at the concerts flew in to see TW.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 3:01 PM

Oh boo-hoo. Looks like you New Yorkers will just have to go to one of the other thousands of cool shows that come to your city. By the way, Columbus is a city well worth traveling to. Very metropolitan: good bars, lots of shopping, restaurants, if you're into that sort of thing. There's no place like Williamsburg in Columbus...but thank God for that.

Posted by Michael Quirk | May 5, 2008 3:08 PM

we drove to akron and cleveland but i flew to atlanta and nashville....

Posted by Javier Buchananeversonia | May 5, 2008 3:14 PM

Columbus Sucks

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 3:41 PM

The point was the most fans during the 2006 came from the cities that Tom Waits was ignoring. I only met one couple from TN at teh Nashville show and I hung out with lots of TW during those two days.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 4:14 PM

Columbus doesn't suck - it is not german town by the way - it is german village.

Atlanta is where I'll be heading though - FOX theater!

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 4:44 PM

This must be part of TW's economic stimulus plan. Play in a couple handfuls of second and third tier cities, thereby causing folks from other parts to spend much money getting to said cities. W should be sending him a thank you card.

Posted by Eggs1234 | May 5, 2008 4:55 PM

there is a second leg of the Glitter And Doom tour that will hit in L.A.(Proper)In the FALL!!! so, I imagine he'll be in NYC as well...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOrG1r3S6ZA

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:01 PM

Holy shit. Nick Nolte is a mess

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:19 PM

It's the same thing every tour: people keep on saying that there will be more dates, but there never are. Wake up.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:21 PM

"there is a second leg of the Glitter And Doom tour that will hit in L.A.(Proper)In the FALL!!! so, I imagine he'll be in NYC as well...

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:01 PM"

Where do you get that info from? Certainly not from that clip. I think you are wrong. This is it for the US Tour. The second leg is Europe. He was supposed to play NYC and other places in the northeast and he fucked us. Thats the way it goes.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:24 PM

Hey anon 6"01...

there is NO SECOND LEG numbnuts

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 6:45 PM

"Seeing Fleet Foxes after Towm Waits in the same night is the epitome of an anticlimatic experience!!!"

How true, it's like masturbating after making love...

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2008 8:37 PM

Tom Waits didn't play London for 17 years until he played three years ago. Don't hold your breath for NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2008 12:05 AM

"Oh boo-hoo. Looks like you New Yorkers will just have to go to one of the other thousands of cool shows that come to your city."

You're the main person who is bitching here. Nobody complained about the lack of great shows in NYC. This is a discussion about Tom Waits and people mainly mentioned his ignorance of the cities where most of his fans are, not just New York.

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2008 3:36 AM

"who the hell would want to be in phoenix in june?"

But it's a dry heat.

Seriously, though, how does Phoenix merit TWO shows? Especially when almost all the ASU students who are from out of town will be gone for the summer.

Also, if Joe Arpaio knows who Tom Waits is, I'd put a small wager on Tom Waits getting busted for something while he's there.

Posted by former ASU student | May 6, 2008 8:54 AM

"We don't need unappreciative bastards here. Please move to Europe."

I would but I can't afford to, thanks to the cost of living here.

"[I]gnoring the places with most people who want to see him and making fans spend their hard earned money on flights and lodging is anything but [nice]."

Fuck you and your sense of entitlement. No wonder Hillary Clinton moved here (the NYC metro area, anyway).

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2008 9:04 AM

Okay something's wrong.

Where's the spambot link to the "celebrity dating" site? It just ain't a BV comment page without it...

Posted by Unanimoose | May 6, 2008 9:26 AM

so come to Columbus! (or better yet, don't come, more tickets for me whose just driving down from Cleveland!)
got to see him in my backyard 2 years ago when he played a Midnight show at H.O.B. in Downtown CLeveland and got to meet people who flew in from all over the country. it was awesome.

Posted by Francesco | May 6, 2008 10:59 AM

Anon 9:04am, dude, it sounds like you really need to leave New York - and go into therapy.

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2008 11:15 AM

i've not seen tom waits perform but i love his music and i love music, period. comparing fleet foxes' music to masturbation is plain idiocy, probably coming from someone who's not had the chance to see them perform live yet. do yourself the favor and see them next time you get a chance.

Posted by slimsloslider | May 6, 2008 6:34 PM

NYC hipsters are goin' to get Scarlett... hahahahaha

Posted by SC | May 6, 2008 10:45 PM

hey javier; where'd you get that info about the may 17 date to sell tix?

oh and I agree - I doubt there will be a "second leg" - everyone said that in 06 and it didn't happen.

columbia here we come!

Posted by me | May 7, 2008 9:02 AM

Does anybody know the likelihood of me actually getting a ticket to the Columbus, OH show. I mean, I live in Minn. and I'm prepared to make the trek and pay the 90 bucks but how do I get a ticket.Since i discovered Tom 3 years ago I've dreamt of seeing him just once in concert.

Posted by Anton | May 7, 2008 2:30 PM

Any news on the European tour? dates and cities?

Posted by Phil | May 8, 2008 5:28 PM

What's he got against NYC? Didn't he used to live here?

Oh, that must be it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:22 PM

I've been to the Fox Theatre in St. Louis....its a really good historic theatre. That may be the one to go to.

Posted by james | May 15, 2008 11:23 AM

too bad no new york......but at least he's touring...thanks tom

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2008 10:16 PM

Just got Columbus tix. Sold out in 2 minutes... Driving out from BK that morning, back in time for work on monday. Oh, it is a good day.

Posted by BillyBoy | May 16, 2008 10:21 AM

Actually it is being reported Columbus SOLD OUT in less than 30 seconds. there are people who logged in at 10:00 on the nose that got shut out!

Posted by doofous | May 16, 2008 10:41 AM

Wow I barely got tickets to Columbus. this show sold out in less than 30 seconds if you ask me. A friend of mine got shut out and we logged in at the same time!

I logged in the exact moment they went on sale and I got the back of the balcony, jeez!

Did you guys get seats, where are your seats? Coming in from Philly

This is crazy

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 10:44 AM

Yeah I got shut out for Columbus!

WHAT THE FUCK? I was on eat exactly 10 am!

This is bullshit! He better add a NYC date pronto!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 10:46 AM

Yeah that was amazingly quick!

got rear balcony. Better than no tiks at all I guess.

Someone know a good place to eat in Columbus before the show?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 10:47 AM

How the hell did you guys get tickets to the Columbus show - everything was gone almost immediately!

Posted by marko | May 16, 2008 10:48 AM

I was trying to get Columbus tickets for my husband for his birthday - got shut out - do you guys know if they release more tickets, or if this is the normal Tom Waits show and nothing will be had from the start?

Posted by MaryK | May 16, 2008 10:59 AM

I am sad - shut out again! good lord that was sold out faster than any concert I've ever seen on ticketmaster?

Am I missing something here? How did you guys (some of you) get tiks?????

oh well - saves me plane fare from DC

Posted by justforthetunes | May 16, 2008 11:01 AM

Columbus definitely SOLD OUT in like 30 seconds.

Shit is crazy yo.

Got my tiks though - Yeah I win!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 11:02 AM

Jesus!

SOLD OUT that fast?

Is the capacity in Columbus like 250?????

WTF.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 11:04 AM

Like thousands of others, I got shut out for Columbus.

Does anyone know when the other cities go on sale?

Hopefully I can score at least one city this tour. Not off to a good start.

Posted by samiam | May 16, 2008 11:07 AM

it wont get any easier samiam.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 11:08 AM

Columbus sold out so quick because it was the closest place for most people in the northeast and midwest. Duh. The trick to getting these tickets for Waits was to do it by phone. I went for Atlanta because i got a free flight, a friend who lives there, its the beautiful Fox Theater and the last show of the tour. I got the guy on the phone 10 minutes beforehand. Asked for a lot of different shows that i knew were sold out. Then at 9:58 i said to him to have Tom Waits up on his screen ready to go. They see the online sale starting before anyone else. The second they went on sale he got me front row. Someone on the Waits message board did the same thing for Columbus and got front row as well. That was the trick for these shows.
Fucking front row for Waits. I cant wait.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 11:13 AM

front row center pit!

Posted by javier buchananeversonia | May 16, 2008 11:22 AM

I managed to get front row in the right loge for the Columbus show. I was on the phone and the computer at the same time - I actually got through on the website.

For dinner beforehand: I'd recommend Schmidt's Sausage House in the German Village. It's been years since I've lived in Ohio but that's the one place I go back to every time I'm in the city.

Posted by Austin | May 16, 2008 11:35 AM

Yeah, the phone thing sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I tried all kinds of different tricks over the years. I've gotten good seats over the phone before, but more often than not I have gotten better seats online.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 11:58 AM

A pair of Front Row Orchestra tickets (Row A) will be popping up on ebay within the next few days. Just a heads up.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 12:09 PM

For the Columbus show...

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 12:10 PM

Actually, it didn't sell out in 30 seconds cuz at 10:04 I was able to (but actually bailed on purchasing) one rear balcony tik.

Posted by NotoriousREG | May 16, 2008 12:18 PM

Last time around, every show sold out very quick. Columbus was an even harder ticket because:

1) it is a Saturday show. All the fans forced to travel are going to pick the Saturday show.

2) it's the closest city to the Northeast.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 12:21 PM

notoriusREG:

Those could have been rejected tickets at 10:04 many people I know got nothing at 10:01 and 10:02

it is possible everything was gone before those rear balcony tiks popped back up.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 1:05 PM

The Ohio Theatre in Columbus seats 2,779.

Here's an article from today's Columbus Dispatch about the show, as well as Tom introducing the first paperless ticket system in the concert industry to prevent scalping.

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/life/stories/2008/05/16/1A_TOM_WAITS.ART_ART_05-16-08_D1_1BA6NAH.html?sid=101

Posted by Mark | May 16, 2008 1:37 PM

this paperless ticket thing is almost there - not quite though

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2008 2:18 PM

FWIW, the St. Louis show isn't showing any sold-out signs yet. I called at 11:30 and got pretty decent seats. Take Friday off and check out St. Louis, one of the more interesting towns on the tour.
