Bob Dylan adds Asbury Park show (presale now)
Tickets are on presale (password = tillie) for an August 13th Bob Dylan show at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. This is the same night Wilco is playing McCarren Pool in Brooklyn and one night after Bob plays Prospect Park and three days before he plays Atlantic City. (thx Hiro).

It's kinda funny that he's gonna play Asbury Park. Remember "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" (recorded with the Traveling Wilburys) is him making fun of Springsteen because he thought Springsteen ripped him off?

He's playing late-show that night down the street at you know what....shhhhh
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 12:15 PM
^^OMFG THE STONE PONY?!?!?!
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 12:19 PM
no the stone pony is waaaay too small for bob dylan.. convention hall. it even says. oh man, i am so there.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 12:40 PM
Convention Hall = 3600 capacity.
Prospect Park Bandshell = 7,000 capacity.
I think it's worth the 1 hour train ride/drive, plus then you get to see Radiohead in Camden.

12:15 knows that he's playing Convention Hall, that's why he mentions that he's playing late night down the street... down the street from Convention Hall is the Stone Pony. "late-show that night" means after the the Convention Hall show. Is this true and does 12:15 have some inside info on this? Dunno. Or is 12:15 just making this up to create nonsense. More than likely.
While it is not out of the question that Dylan would pop up later that evening at the Stone Pony, it is highy unlikely unless Mr. Springsteen is also in town.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 12:52 PM
Mr. Springsteen IS in town that night. At least for now.

Has he ever played in Asbury Park before? I know Prospect Park is his first Brooklyn show, and I also think this is his first time in AP, but I'm not sure.....

august 13 is also the same night as thao at the bowery ballroom

if anyone is debating seeing Bob Dylan vs. Thao at Bowery, you've really got to check yourself.

Just called Stone Pony. No Bob Dylan there. Unless they're keeping it secret.
Kill Hannah are playing Stone Pony that night until about midnight.

"Just called Stone Pony. No Bob Dylan there. Unless they're keeping it secret."
Wow, you must be gullible.

How is tweeter and the monkkey man in any way making fun of Springteen? I've never heard that before and other than the character names (which are a bit more bruce-like than bob-like) I don't see how any of the lyrics would suggest that.
Besides they've played together at least 3 times since then. I've never heard of any tension between the two.

Why would you call the Stone Pony two months before the Convention Hall show to ask them if Bob Dylan is playing there at the Stone Pony that night?
That's a pretty stupid question to ask them.
What are you expecting them to say Yes?
IF he is going to hit that stage that night in August it will either be unannounced, not officially announced, or a spur of the moment move. And it will all center around if Bruce Springsteen is involved.
Even if there was a full blown Dylan concert all slated and signed for for later that night at the 'small club down the street', do you really think that they are going to tell you this months in advance when the tickets just went on sale for Convention Hall?
He's not playing at the Stone Pony. But if he were, or will, your not going to find out by calling them NOW...

Bob Dylan doesn't do intimate, spur-of-the-moment, for-the-fans gigs like that anymore.
He's a senile old man.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 2:44 PM
^^^ Yeah... he sure sounded senile on "Modern Times".
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 3:15 PM
^^^^
most idiotic comment ever.
As if a musician's music has anything to do with his real-life persona. Moron.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 3:29 PM
wow 2:44 and 3:15 you must be senile you naive fucks - modern times was an amazing album and yes he doesnt do spur of the moment shit- hes 67 years old and still tours year round- get back to me when your that age and strung out on dan deacon in your rocking chairs. assholes.

I love Bob Dylan's music, and know enough about the guy to know that he's old and senile now. He's always been a grouch, and this has only exacerbated with time.
Modern Times was great for sure, but Bob Dylan has always been quite skittish as far as his fanbase is concerned, so the point is: the odds of him doing an intimate show at the Stone Pony are zero.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 3:48 PM
agreed but hes far from senile hes just a crazy motherfucker. hes always been. deal.

"Bob Dylan doesn't do intimate, spur-of-the-moment, for-the-fans gigs like that anymore."
Has he ever?
"He's a senile old man."
No he's not. He's just a real oddball. He's always been weird. Now' s no exception.
"I love Bob Dylan's music, and know enough about the guy to know that he's old and senile now."
And you know this how? There's absolutely no indication that there's anything senile oriented going on with him. No talk, no proof no nothing. Just your stupid comment in this blog.
He;s always been a really strange guy. that strangeness doesn't just automatically translate to being senile at a certain age, it just means he's an older strange guy now.

thank you 4:02.

There's absolutely no reason why Dylan would play another show on his own at a smaller venue down the street after the larger one the same night. There's no point. The only way he's showing up at the Stone Pony later than night is if Springsteen decides to play the Stone Pony later that night and invites him. This is not going to happen, because Springsteen is not going to book a show at the Stone Pony just so that he can invite Dylan to play with him. Much more likely scenerio would be Bruce just showing up and playing with Dylan at the Convention Hall show.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:09 PM
considering last time he came around these parts he played arenas (Spectrum, Meadowlands, etc), this show at the Convention Hal is pretty intimate on it's own.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:11 PM
What is seating like at this place? Is it just a GA open floor? Bleachers or what?
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:12 PM
" Is it just a GA open floor? Bleachers or what?"
They're selling both GA floor and bleacher tickets for this show.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:15 PM
umm... i'm anon 3:15, and I was making a sarcastic comment. "Modern Times" is a great album. "Love & Theft" was classic. The one before that was pretty great too.
Dylan is still a consummate professional who is putting out rockin' (and relevant) albums every couple of years. He may not play the guitar much anymore, but his live shows are still amazing if you're a real fan.
He is FAR from senile... especially for a guy who's been around as long and seen as much as he has.
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:18 PM
Convention Hall capacity is 3600, so VERY intimate by Dylan standards.
There's both bleacher seating and GA seats, although I got in pretty early in the presale and only got GA's...
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:31 PM
why is there at least one fight between people who agree on every thread?
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 4:45 PM
The Bleachers are seats, but the GA floor is STANDING. there are no seats on the floor.

O.K., I stand corrected re: "Tweeter and the Monkey Man," assuming this Wikipedia article isn't full of shit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tweeter_and_the_Monkey_Man

Dylan & Springsteen? Something to ponder. Well, for those of you who aren't going to the show I thought I'd offer up something else to ponder. I thought I'd introduce you to my new novel, BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, which I think you'd enjoy.
It's a murder-mystery. But not just any rock superstar is knocking on heaven's door. The murdered rock legend is none other than Bob Dorian, an enigmatic, obtuse, inscrutable, well, you get the picture...
Suspects? Tons of them. The only problem is they're all characters in Bob's songs.
You can get a copy on Amazon.com or go "behind the tracks" at www.bloodonthetracksnovel.com to learn more about the book.

If u missed Dylan's show last night at Prospect Park, then I would just pass on a small warning to those thinking about buying tickets: the show COULD be awful. Just fyi.
