sign in now to ticketmaster! just signed in for the hell of it and got a Conor ticket!
Posted by Travis | June 20, 2008 12:22 PM
"this is the same guy who couldn sell out Radio City last year."
Radio City capacity - 6,000
Bowery capacity - 550
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:23 PM
no way they'll add shows - I bet Conor kept 1/2 the tickets for himself and is the d'bag selling them already on Craigslist
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:23 PM
There are shows the day after and the day before Bowery. Probably no new shows.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:24 PM
The Conor tickets obviously went only to scalpers, as they have the past few shows. Someone is jamming the system here in NYC every time he plays. They are already for sale on craigslist.
NO ONE should buy tickets from scalpers and everyone should complain to craigslist for them allowing an illegal activity - scalping - on their site. Only by refusing to support these scum will they stop doing this. It also wouldn't hurt to complain to Saddle Creek. They could institute what a few bands have done - you only get in the show and get tickets at the door and you have to provide photo ID along with your credit card that bought the tickets. If someone else tries to claim them (as they would if they were scalped) you can't get in the show.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:25 PM
hey its all good, they are only selling for $100+ on ebay already...

Scalping is legal you dumbass.
For that you can thank hooker-loving Spitzer.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:27 PM
WHO ARE THE WOMEN IN THAT PHOTOGRAPH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:31 PM
Legalized scalping is the worst thing to happen to the concert biz ever!
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:34 PM
1225, too bad ticketmaster sends out hard tickets.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:36 PM
Second show at Terminal 5 on sale at 1pm.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:37 PM
Does anyone know if Gogol Bordello is really starting at 6 PM tonight? That seems insanely early.
Posted by washerdreyer | June 20, 2008 12:40 PM
The amount of scalpers that picked up these tickets is extremely ridiculous. What a fuckin' shame. The fans need to revolt. 12:25, you're absolutely right. Do something.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:41 PM
looking at the ebay page, there were obviously a handful of scalpers that got their hands on dozens of tickets. Fucking disgusting.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:42 PM
i have about 30 tickets for oberst. i'll them for $10 above face value.
oberst.tix@gmail.com
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:43 PM
this sells out in 10 seconds but the faint show hasn't yet and that's been on sale for weeks. it amazes me, i guess terminal 5 is bigger...
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:43 PM
what are we supposed to do about craigslist scalping? flag as prohibited? that doesn't seem to make sense, as much as I hate that scalpers bought out 2/3 of bowery.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:44 PM
will they being adding a second show?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:44 PM
FYI: In NY it is ILLEGAL to sell tickets to entertainment events for more than 10% above face value (this is for brokers). Indivials can only sell to cover expenses (which means they can charge for the service fee they paid). Some brokers may charge a service charge - but again, it is not to be excessive.
The bottom line is, stop supporting these scum and they'll stop operating as they do. Basic supply and demand.
Also, Ticketmaster does not have to offer hard tickets - it can be designated that tickets must be picked up at the box office.
It is your choice though: do you want to continue overpaying someone for illegally selling you a ticket you could have bought yourself if they had not illegally jammed the system? Or do you want to say enough?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:44 PM
30 tickets on ebay as of now, less than 1 hour after they sold out? this is ridiculous. markup is 75 bucks on average, here's hoping for a half empty Bowery Ballroom when showtime comes.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:46 PM
The thing is its only illegal for scalpers to sell for more than 10% over IF they live in NY, if they are located in any other state they can sell for whatever they want.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:47 PM
the faint is a different genre, and far less popular.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:48 PM
i usually dont mind scalping, and to be honest i do really even care that i couldnt get tickets to this show, but there are insane amount of ebay posts already, at least 50 or so tickets.
it's almost as if the only people who were able to get tickets were scalpers. the numbers just dont add up.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:48 PM
It is now legal to scalp!!!
How do you think stubhub is now the an official sponser of things like mlb and other venues???
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:48 PM
You guys spewing scalping laws don't know shit.
There is NO limit to how much scalpers can charge:
ALBANY, N.Y. - Open your wallets, Yankees fans. New York scalpers can now legally sell tickets to the highest bidder without fear of getting pinched.
Gov. Eliot Spitzer signed a measure officially ending the limits on how much brokers add to the face price.
The previous law — widely ignored even before it was replaced Friday — limited markups to 45 percent for tickets to large venues such as Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden, and 20 percent for facilities with fewer than 6,000 seats, including Broadway theaters.
A few of the old regulations remain, however, including the ban on scalpers selling tickets within 1,500 feet of the larger arenas and within 500 feet of smaller venues. Large-volume brokers must also register with the state.
Critics said the new law will lead to higher prices in the secondary market, while supporters argued that it would make tickets more widely available.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:50 PM
btw i was serious about selling at $10 over face. i'm not looking to get rich here.
oberst.tix@gmail.com
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:50 PM
yeah the numbers dont add up.
looks like the fears of some have come true- scalpers can corner the market at shows as big as bowery ballroom, and now resell the tickets for whatever amount they want. i hope this comes back to bite them in the ass because I dont see this oberst guy as a hot commodity at all.

There's been over 60 posts in just an hour after tickets have gone onsale for this thing, and it's in the 500-capacity Bowery, with approx. 80 of those tickets held for press/industry, so 420 to the general public.
Yes, it will be a hot commodity.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 12:56 PM
wow how appropriate the pic, scalpers give fans a big giant enema! haha
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:00 PM
what doesnt get over 60 posts on bv these days?
all it means is that people are really bored at work.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:01 PM
guy who is selling tix for $10 over face value, check your email if you are being honest.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:02 PM
there's a total of 48 tickets for sale on ebay. let's be generous and double that for others that scalpers might have been able to grab. that's roughly 100 and hardly cornering the market.
if everyones going to start whining because they couldn't be part of the select few who were able to grab tickets to such a small venue, maybe ask why conor didn't book a number of shows or get into a bigger venue to begin with. everyone knew this show was going to go quick.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:02 PM
you know what would be fantastic? if there was a renegade scalper that used fancy methods to out-scalp them all, then sell the tickets to fans at face value. sort of a robin hood of rock. :)
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:04 PM
"Does anyone know if Gogol Bordello is really starting at 6 PM tonight? That seems insanely early."
Doors are at 5 and State Radio is opening. In my experience with shows at McCarren pool, they do start pretty early. Shows at the pool have to be over by 10:00, I think, because of the noise. So, I'd guess State Radio goes on around 6:00 or 6:30, and Gogol around 8:00? Sound about right?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:05 PM
What time do Vivian Girls open before Dafty Punkers?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:08 PM
Here is the actual NY law regarding ticket sellers: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/lcns/ticketresellerlawbook.html#07
It CLEARLY states there are limits.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:09 PM
the sheer amount of the tickets that were able to randomly end up in the hands of PROFESSIONAL scalpers is staggering. i wouldnt care if the tickets ended up in the hands of regular people looking to scalp them, because it would at least mean that the allocation process was fair.
but when this amount ends us in the hands of the seasoned ticket brokerage firms, something is clearly going on. i really hope some journalist out there does an expose on this, cause i really want to know how they're beating the system.
i remember reading back during last year hannah montana's fiasco, that a couple of firms hire labor in india, to manually enter the captcha's, but to me, that doesnt seem like enough to gain that huge of an advantage. what else are the doing?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:09 PM
Anon 1:05,
Murder by Death is first, not State Radio. According to MBD's MS they go on at 5:40pm.

Scalpers use auto phone systems (bots). It takes literally seconds for them to buy up all the tickets.
At the very least, Bowery Presents could offer a certain number of tickets - say half - through hard ticket sale at Mercury Lounge.
I really think fans should not support scalpers.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:17 PM
so all 74 posts here are complaining about tickets for...conor? seriously, i think some people need to go get jobs or do something creative and productive.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:20 PM
hah sometimes i dont mind living in north carolina...i just got tickets for his show at cats cradle

Conor = Emo
Whiny fans on this board = Emo
.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:29 PM
Why bother trying to decide between seeing Conor or Dylan that night (and dropping a ton of cash on scalped tickets for either show) when for 40 bucks you can see both of them AND Levon Helm AND The Swell Season AND Gillian Welch AND Steve Earle at Saratoga Springs? Even after spending $$$ on gas money & car rental, it's still the better deal.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:32 PM
The real (and only) way to combat scalping in this city is to sell only individual tickets to shows. This will settle all.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:39 PM

Well... because you get to sit on a lawn far, far away instead of being in Bowery---on a much smaller scale.
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 1:52 PM
conor oberst is in one respect the emo howard stern. do haters realize they spend on average more time reading up and commenting on him than the actual fans?
Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2008 6:27 PM
