Dan Deacon vs Darren Mabee @ Popped! Music Fest (NSFW)

Dan Deacon came face to face with the infamous Darren Mabee at the Popped! Music Festival in Philadelphia (home of Man Man) on Saturday (June 21, 2008).

Darren was apparently not cooporating, so Dan ordered the crowd to help him put the smile spell on Darren. It seems to have worked. CrackerCAM has more photos from the event that Gogol Bordello, Crystal Castles, Mates of State and Vampire Weekend also played.

Dan Deacon opens for Devo at McCarren Pool this Thursday. McCarren Pool is where Darren Mabee got his start last summer (on this site anyway). Dan has also been to McCarren before.

that's what it's come down to these days? ordering the crowd to put on a...smile spell. it's like someone put in the grateful dead, harry potter, and pre-school in a blender. the face of brooklyn 2008, awesome!

Dan is from Baltimore. This was in Philadelphia. Darren is from NJ.

Jesus Christ. That picture after the jump is brutal. It brings back memories of when I saw Darren's nuts on stage at the Junior Senior concert last year (during Gravy Train's set). I think I saw him at the Islands show last month, too.

what sucked about Deacon's set was that it was cut short and he was pissed. but the festival was a blast!

pretty well run with short breaks between sets. Golgol bordello should have headlined, they were great. Crystal Castles was amazing and crowd surfing.

Vampire Weekend, meh....

Gogol didn't headline Popped since they had to leave so they could headline Efes Pilsen One Love Festival, slated for June 21-22 at Santralistanbul...last time i check, thats not along the L train
