Bradford @ The Rare Book Room
Rare Book Room

Future and Microcastle (2007-present)

Deerhunter made an appearance on Living Bridge, a compilation put together by Rare Book Room Records. The song that appeared on the compilation was entitled "After Class" and was recorded in the same place where they attempted to record their second album, the Rare Book Room studios. It was released in February 2008.

The quartet's third album, slated to come out in 2008, will be titled Microcastle. One of the songs from the record, whose title has been confirmed as "Twilight at Carbon Lake", has been described by Cox as "doo-wop, 50s/early 60s, Everly Brothers".[10] Microcastle leaked on the internet May 31, 2008.

The band added guitarist Whitney Petty, a former cheerleader and high school friend of Cox's, to replace the departing Mee in May 2008. [Deerhunter Wikipedia]

You might just have the leak. If not, you can hear some of the new songs streaming at Deerhunter's official MySpace.

You might have heard the songs live when Deerhunter played them at Market Hotel. You can hear the songs live next time Deerhunter plays them at one of the following shows....

I like the sound that it has but the lack of emotion is really turning me off. I'm gonna give it a couple of more chances. If not only because TRENT REZNOR approves!

lack of emotion....HAHAHHAHAHAHHAAH

it IS awesome. i am loving it as well

pop music? really? i haven't heard yet, but based on the first record, and atlas sound for that matter, they are nothing like a "pop" band. are you serious?

Black Lips are opening for them at the pool!!! sweet. i hope they piss in each other's mouths 'cause i just gotta see some of that on stage.

black lips are aweful

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 2:49 PM

Black Lips are only good if you plan trying to hook up with underage teen girls who are at their shows.

Sadly Deerhunter is opening for black lips

i was really apprehensive about downloading microcastles, because their previous albums have been god awful to listen to (i can't stand shoegaze).

but i listened to this record this morning and was really captured by it... surprisingly good! who would have thought?

I must be the only one who preferred their previous stuff.. The new one is very solid, well crafted etc but I find it a bit hard to get excited by..

>>Sadly Deerhunter is opening for black lips

WHAT?! are you f serious? that is quite sad news. black lips are a bunch of vampire weekend fake punks. damn, that sucks to hear.

can't wait to hear the new deerhunter, but seeing the reference to pop music frightens me a bit.

How hot is this former cheerleader?

Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2008 8:05 AM

fuck that, their old stuff was waay better

Posted by st ives | June 5, 2008 9:45 AM

id hit it

black lips kill deerhunter in live performances and bradford knows and admits this. he says their music and live shows are what he wants his to be like. they're one of his favorite bands, and are undoubtedly far superior songwriters. whoever compared them to vampire weekend is an idiot. listen to some old black lips cds you fucking dumbass.

i don't think black lips and deerhunter are competitive with each other. they make two different types of the same kind of garage punk. they are also best friends so i doubt they argue over who are better songwriters. they are probably just happy to be playing the show together and don't give a fuck who "headlines"
