by the time Devo came on, it was much more crowded (June 26, 2008)
Devo @ McCarren

Devo only played for an hour at McCarren Pool last night, but it was a power hour. Check out a video montage from the night below....

Tom Tom Club and Dan Deacon played too.

P.S. pics are coming soon.

"maybe the tickets shouldn't have been $60???"

no, they definitely shouldn't have been.

Weak.

already a pretty rambunctious conversation about Devo's performance here: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/06/dan_deacon_play_1.html

why did he choose "whip it" to videotape? it's one of devo's weaker tunes and it make them look really silly

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 1:29 PM

this should have been free

The price of this concert was too high. Especially when most other acts this summer were set around $25-$35.

I love DEVO - but give me a fucking break.

No band with a back catalog that big charging that much for that show should be able to get away with only playing for an hour.

Devo didn't screw up, Live Nation did

he choose 'whip it' because he likes it a lot. figures, right?!

Posted by un:art:ig | June 27, 2008 2:09 PM

the show shouldn't have been free, but it should have been $35.

Ha! Take that Manhattan! Brooklyn can have expensive overpriced shows too! Brooklyn= The new Manhattan ripoff.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 2:17 PM

i wanted to hear through being cool. or beautiful world. still good though. and yes, too expensive, but i choose to blame THE MAN for that.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 2:19 PM

'makes them look silly' LOL

and the rest of the time, they look dignified?

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 2:24 PM

I'm a big fan, and I just didn't want to fork over $60 to see them. Too bad, because at $25-35, you would've had more people there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 2:42 PM

in recent shows Boojie Boy comes out and sings Beautiful World

Did we get short changed because of the curfew or did Tom Tom Club play about 3 songs too many?

the tix were almost this much 2+ years ago in central park. they are not going to lower the ticket price from 2 years ago. $25 for DEVO would be cool, but come on...what are all these "acts" that charge $25 this summer?? and i'm not talking about some lame hipster brooklyn bands that no one will care about after 6 months.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 3:18 PM

what? you have sonic youth for free next week. of course people dont wanna pay. u crazy. and you can see dan deacon for free tomorrow to boot. I wanted to see dan deacon but come on 50-60 was just a bit too much.

You can apply whatever science you want to the situation. The fact that they only sold half the tickets, if that, is all the proof anyone needs to know that the ticket price was too expensive.

"what? you have sonic youth for free next week. of course people dont wanna pay."

Um, Sonic Youth played at this pool twice before, neither show was free, it was around the $35-$40 range.

Honestly, even if it was $50, and they only played for an hour, it was one of the best hours of music I've ever experienced. And I've seen most of the bands written about on this blog, and beyond.

Pure showmanship. And they still ripped it, after all theses years.

Go D-E-V-O!

live music is going all corporate. what a shame

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2008 4:52 PM

At least we don't have to pay $50 to see how it looked.

Good job Torsten Meier with the video. Very steady camerawork. And thanks to BV for hooking him up.

you forget that Sonic Youth sold out all three shows they played there in the past 2 years.

my point was with all the free shows all over the city, including a free Sonic Youth show next week, attendance at pay shows is bound to drop off, as you see with Devo and even Gogol Bordello show which was far from sold out.
