Feelies tomorrow, WFMU on July 4th, Thurston on the 5th
Josh, Thurston Moore, Byron Coley @ Other Music - June 14, 2008 (Leftist)

The Feelies kick off their three-show reunion run at Maxwell's on Tuesday July 1st. Then comes July 2nd at Maxwell's, and finally July 4th with Sonic Youth at Battery Park. I'm not sure if there will be more tickets available for the show on the 4th. Regardless, if you can't be there, you can always listen to it on WFMU. Then one day later you can catch Thurston Moore in a much smaller setting - with Gene Moore, downstairs at Rehab.

Make that 4 Feelies shows, they're at Maxwell's right this moment (Monday night), invitation-only show for friends, family and press.

Hmm... I think that's the first picture I've ever seen of Thurston where he actually looks a little 50-something instead of 16.
;)

from R2R wire:
4th of July - Sonic Youth/The Feelies - LIMITED Day-of Ticket Distribution
There are a very limited number of tickets for the July 4th Sonic Youth with The Feelies show that will be distributed the morning of the concert. These tickets will be available two per person on a first-come, first served basis starting at 9:00AM in Battery Park directly across from the main entrance to Castle Clinton. The line will be forming along the mall, from Castle Clinton towards the World Trade Center Memorial.

You bring the coffee and we'll bring the tix! See you on the 4th...

Last I heard, WFMU broadcast was SY-only:
Making the Nature Scene & Heard: WFMU Broadcasts Sonic Youth Live 7/4

"At this time, unable to broadcast the Feelies live that afternoon"

If I have an email confirm saying that I have 2 free tix, but wasn't able to and didn't pick up any tix yet, can I still get in?
Posted by Anonymous | July 1, 2008 3:27 PM
^^^ if you wait in line at 9am like everyone else. Your reservations mean nothing now.
Posted by Anonymous | July 1, 2008 3:29 PM
Anon 3:27, a friend of mine had the same thing happen, he was able to contact R2R and provide proof that he did have reservations and they sent him his tickets via mail. I know its probably too late for that but he said the customer service was great and they were cool about it. Good luck.

I thought this was supposed to be a free outdoor concert! There are tickets? Why are there only a "limited number" of tickets? I'll be happy to go down Friday morning & wait on line - but is it pretty likely they'll have enough tickets? Help please.

I surprised more people haven't written about these shoes. Is there another thread? I was at Maxwells last night and I have to say my jaw hot the floor a good number of times. Long live The Feelies!!!!!
Posted by Half Chemical | July 3, 2008 11:30 AM
jeez. i meant 'shows' instead of 'shoes' and 'hit' instead of 'hot'. I really need to work on my typing skills :)

There are more Feelies comments on the thread w/ the video from Monday's show.

I don't want no hip hop at Battery Park.

JasonNYC: You're right--you totally deserve tickets even though everyone else jumped through 10 hoops to get them already. But since YOU didn't know about it and didn't do what you had to do to get tickets, you still deserve them anyway.
Nothing like the self-entitlement of a hip New Yorker.

Tix were easy to get this morning. I showed up right before 9am, and parked myself at the tail end of a line winding around the entrance to the park.
At 2 tix per handout, they must have given out hundreds.
Show was great. Feelies not to my liking (blast away, folks), but SY surprised by playing some ancient material: She Is Not Alone, Making The Nature Scene, Schizophrenia ... and then approx a third of Daydream, a couple cuts off Dirty -- including 100%, which closed the second encore.
Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 7:22 PM
Oh yeah, they also played The World Looks Red. Only thing they played from Rather Ripped was Jams Run Free, I think.
Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 7:25 PM
i think the set was:
She is Not Alone
Bull in the Heather
Silver Rocket
Skip Tracer
The Sprawl
World Looks Red
Cross the Breeze
Hey Joni
Jams Run Free
The Wonder
Hyperstation
Drunken Butterfly
--
Making the Nature Scene
Pink Steam
--
Schizophrenia
100%
great show! would have taken Eliminator Jr over Drunken Butterfly though...

That was an awesome show! Lucked out & got 2 tix right near the end of the Feelies show, so got to see SY from about 30' away! BTW, thanks for the song list - I knew most of the songs but not all & had trouble placing a few. One of the highlights was Kim forgetting the lyrics in Drunken Butterfly -- she just told the audience, laughed it off, and the crowd loved her for it. I know I'm gonna get a lot of grief for this-- it was a great set (lots of Daydream Nation - awesome) but I wish they'd done a couple more of their "hits" like Kool Thing & Sunday (sorry but those are both GREAT songs!) Anyway, no complaints; I thought the Feelies were great too, but no match for SY!!

stop talking trash about hippys, all of you.
Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2008 2:59 AM
Is there a post on this about hippies? I love Crazy Rhythms, and it has nothing to do with hippies. More Marquee Moon than American Beauty.

in an ideal world, the next person that puts up an umbrella at a concert blocking the view of everyone behind them will be struck by lightning.

I think I know the exact person you're talking about... and totally agreed.

You are a moron. I couldn't make it to any of the pickup times so I emailed R2R and told them my situation. They told me to give them my address, and I got them in the mail a couple of days later.
Know what you're talking about before you say it, squid brain.
