Girl Talk - a 'pay what you want' album ++ 2008 Tour Dates

Girl Talk @ Virgin Fest 2007 (more by Bao)
Girl Talk

Girl Talk fans should keep their eyes on the Internet over the next few weeks, as it will be the only place to obtain his new album in the short term.

Girl Talk mainman Greg Gillis tells Billboard.com he will release "Feed the Animals," a 55-minute album featuring more than 300 samples, in a pay-what-you want format a la Radiohead's "In Rainbows" via his label Illegal Art's Web site. A physical CD will available sometime in the next few months.

"This project has always been about embracing pop," Gillis says. "I feel like the source material on this record has more in-your-face classics. Because of that, it's more over the top." [Billboard]

Huh? How can it be free if it contains samples?

because he doesnt pay for the right to use the samples. it would cost more to sue him than the amount of money they would receive, although i'm sure he makes a decent amount from touring and djing.

Hey Jason, I think the "RIAA" was being sarcastic, but more importantly: Shouldn't he only give away his albums for free?

If I pay -$300, will I get a check?

I've also heard that most artists actually dig what he's doing, and leave him alone as a consequence. Not necessarily true, I just remember reading about it somewhere.

he outdid himself. I loved Night Ripper. This one is just as good, possibly better.
