Indian Jewelry - 3 upcoming NYC shows

Indian Jewelry @ Death By Audio, NYC - May 2008 (Lori Baily)
Indian Jewelry

Indian Jewelry return to NYC soon. One of the shows I already wrote about - July 4th @ The Yard w/ Ponytail and many others (which by the was was reduced from $10 to $8 with RSVP). The other two are even sooner - this week actually. Here's a review of a recent show:

This tour's version of Indian Jewelry was a three piece, as opposed to the different five-piece configuration they were sporting at SXSW. But just like last time, they cut off all the lights and aimed a very large strobe light at the audience to obscure themselves. The threesome each traded off from song to song between 4 basic instrument stations: A table with drum machines and other electronic devices, a guitar going through a ton of pedals, a microphone going through a ton of pedals, and a minimalist drum kit.
Exact dates below....

Indian Jewelry - 2008 Tour Dates
Jun 25 - Cake Shop w/ Lotto Ball, Pocahaunted, Intl Shades y mas
Jun 27 - Glasslands w/ Mazing Vids, S.S. Pyramid Snake
Jul 4 - the Yard w/ PonyTail, Power Douglas, Marnie Stern, Double Dagger, the Apes

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:00 PM

i don't really understand the comments that criticize the site because it doesn't cover their favorite bands. if you don't like these bands, don't read the fucking website, bro.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:02 PM

bro. haha. what a dumbass.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:08 PM

it's not that the site doesn't cover my favorite bands, because it has. it's just the over abundance of crap that has been flooding ny that i can't get over. and i know there ARE better events out there. and, i'll go to whatever site i please, thanks. i'm sure bk vegan doesn't mind the traffic.

Indian Jewelry is great and so is Pocahaunted.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:18 PM

well, just judging from the picture (assuming that is Indian Jewelry), the girl's ultra trendy dress and ray ban wayfarer-esque glasses would in fact lead me to think that no, Indian Jewelry is not great. and, in this day and age, when apparently appearances count for more than they should, that picture describes all I need to know about this band.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:30 PM

"bro. haha. what a dumbass."

He (She?) used 'bro' derisively. Who's the dumbass now?

Posted by everybody else | June 23, 2008 4:38 PM

trust me, I'm more cynical & jaded than about 95% of the people that read this site HOWEVER indian jewelry at death by audio a month or so ago was fucking awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:40 PM

EXACTLY! why oh why has it come to the point of appearance counting for more than anything else. sigh... let's see here: trendy dress? check. trendy wayfarer-esque glasses? check. ability to strike a pose which says more about style and less about how one is playing? check. ok kids, we're all set for the big show in brooklyn!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:43 PM

yeah indian jewelry are actually good. wrong post to whine on, bro.

Posted by olololololol | June 23, 2008 4:44 PM

I photographed Indian Jewelry last time they played DC. It was an amazing show.

Posted by Roberto C. Madruga | June 23, 2008 4:55 PM

geez people. band members are NOT allowed to post. i thought we've been through all this before.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:56 PM

Someone please tell me Vivian Girls are opening. PLEASE!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 4:57 PM

if it looks like it wears sunglasses inside and tastes like it wears sunglasses inside and SOUNDS like it wears sunglasses inside, then we can probably assume, indian jewelry are a bunch of douches who wear sunglasses inside

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:01 PM

i have no idea what the band sounds like. however, i sadly think they look as though the care more about what they look like. at least the girl does based upon that photo. HOWEVER, with regard to 5:01's comment...lou reed wore sunglasses inside back in the velvet days. was/is he kind of an ass. absolutely. did they make some of the most amazing rock ever? ab so fucking lutely.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:06 PM

or they have insane strobe lights that make you have a seizure from the crowd and want to protect themselves from that intensity?

ignorant bv commentors strike back!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:07 PM

I just listened to them, you can't even compare JOKINGLY indian jewelry to lou reed. when they bust out some severely classic amazing music, she can wear sunglasses in her sleep

until then she looks like a total fucktard

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:08 PM

"Someone please tell me Vivian Girls are opening. PLEASE!"

Nope, it's Dan Deacon.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:08 PM

hahaha. and a fine second place that is. bravo!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:10 PM

dan deacon opens for indian jewelry ? how on earth does that make sense, everyone will leave after DD

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:10 PM

vivian deacon & the girls

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:11 PM

i fucking HATE people who wear sunglasses

Posted by james | June 23, 2008 5:12 PM

No, Dan Deacon is DJing for Coldplay!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:13 PM

yeah, those sunglassers...they're the worst!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:14 PM

I'm sorry but who passed the new law that a band must look like shit in order to be taken seriouly as musicians? I'm not comparing Indian Jewelry to anybody but I can rattle off the top of my head quite a few bands who rock and looked good (and wore sunglasses) while doing it, including, but not limited to, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cramps and Spacemen 3.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:16 PM

Anon @ 5:16

the problem is you are implying Indian Jewelry look good....

:\

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 5:29 PM

Indian Jewelry hell yea! Houston Texas represent.

Posted by johny q | June 23, 2008 5:45 PM

yes, you're in good company. along with our president. rock on, brah.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 6:42 PM

5:06 -- you're a candy-hole. You concede that musicians can be overly style-conscious, wear sunglasses indoors /outlandish clothing AND still make good music (Lou Reed, Bolan, Bowie, 65% of most of the musicians you probably care about) -- thereby admitting that what matters here is the artistic product, not the dress habits of those making said product.

And yet in the same paragraph you admit you haven't even *heard* Indian Jewelry, and yet suggest that because the woman looks overly-style conscious, the music *must* be shitty. What the fuck? Am I going too fast? Has your rabbit-turd brain processed yet why that's a logical fallacy?

Reed = example of style-conscious musician you respect because his music's good.

Indian jewelry = style-conscious musicians you disrespect because ... you have catastrophic brain damage.

Take a deep breath. I know, it's a lot to take in all at once. You'll get there.

^^ awww, thanks babe. mmhhuu.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 7:17 PM

6:44...Bowie's clothing was DIFFERENT. no one dressed like him, and if they did, they were an obvious rip off. this girl's outfit is no different than a million other "indie" bands or some random girl off the streets of williamsburg. I don't know how much Lou Reed thought about his clothing choices but i would put money on the fact that this girl cares a million times more than he ever has. trendiness will always be around as long as human's are wearing clothing, but the point is, too much emphasis is put on what people in the music industry are wearing. ALWAYS has been like that. And the current trend is to have as many vintage items on as possible, wayfarer glasses, when all else fails, american apparel v-neck shirt. If you aren't wearing that, people will not listen to you.

I saw indian jewlry at mr. city in chicago. really nice folks but THEY SUCK. rill bad musicians- the type of stuff that gets called "high concept" but is closer to no concept

i feel compelled to write my first comment. this website is read by a bunch of US Magazine, Cory Kennedy worshiping, Jesus and the Wank Chain fuck heads. you, who spend all your time taking a piss on people who could give two shits about you.

i know all of you. you sit at home, stalk hipsters on MySpace, build your mp3 collection, think really hard for wit's sake when you post a comment & pray you're seen at a Todd P show. the list goes on...

i've seen indian jewelry many times, and this picture sucks. most of their pictures suck. it doesn't even look like them. i don't even know who the FUCK that girl is. is that erika thrasher? erika thrasher has red hair. and FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHY DOES IT MATTER WHAT SHE'S WEARING?

my point is, you & you & you & you should all keep drinking your diet coke, because you're all getting fat and lazy.

i want to see pocahaunted.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 9:24 PM

^ right ON my sister. or, er, brother.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 9:27 PM

I can honestly say that until today, I've never seen or heard this band. She is cute though, I can attest to that. Whether or not she knows how to play a damn thing on the drums, I have no idea. But.......she's got the look. Rock on.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 9:31 PM

haven't given these guys a listen, but Pocahaunted is the shit! especially the stuff they did with Robedoor.

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 10:28 PM

you, above poster, should work for a record label, because you have the same priorities as every "indie" label around. congrats! american apparel shirt for you!

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 10:29 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 23, 2008 10:34 PM

my favorite band is invisible.
my other favorite band is uglier than your favorite band.
