L Magazine is having a party tonight in Brooklyn

from their own mouths....

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

At the Music Hall of Williamsburg, doors at 7:30, the first band at 8:30. Basically, we figured we could keep reminding you, all year, about all the various opportunities to catch up with our NYC Bands You Need to Hear... or we could just a bunch of them onstage together and give you a shot. The latter seemed easier. So:
continued below...

The first band is Motel Motel (Recommended If You Like flannel, feeling quietly stoned, and America), followed by bite-sized sets from Mewoskers (R.I.Y.L. the 90s), Famous Amos (R.I.Y.L. sludgy indie rock guitars, funny jokes, beer), La Strada (R.I.Y.L. Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel, foreign languages, auxiliary percussion), The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (R.I.Y.L. The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, 60s bubblegum pop, earnestness, melody) and The Lisps (R.I.Y.L. elaborate costumes, eccentric country folk, carnies).

And all over by just after midnight, so be quick about taking advantage of the $1 off everything that has Southern Comfort in it. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door, which is less money than you'd normally spend just breathing on a Thursday night in New York. See you there. [L Magazine]

You people are idiots.
I read that Bobby Tisdale is the host...is that still happening?

Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2008 2:28 PM

Yeah, he's still hosting

shoegaze (jamc and mbv comparisons) is probably the easiest thing to play these thats why all these new bands sound the same. play a chord, turn up the distortion, get some feedback and then call it art.

meowskers and la strada were awesome last night.
it was a great show overall.

La Strada definitely blasted the other bands out of the water
