Ladytron @ Terminal 5, NYC - pics
photos by Ryan Muir

Sunday Mall: Why is the [new] album called Verocifero?Ladytron played Terminal 5 with Datarock last night (June 25, 2008). More pictures below...Ladytron: It means carrier of speed. It was the title of a track which didn't make it on the album but we liked the name so much we kept it. Scooters and pushbikes also go by the name. We Googled it and found it was also the title of a 19th-century Italian opera. We just liked it because of the speed of velocity.

Great show. Even the sound gremlins at Terminal 5 didn't prevent this from being a blast. Love the matching guitar and bass in the pictures.

they are so fantastic even though terminal 5 sound blows.

i concur with the sentiment of many comments here. i saw ladytron open for nine inch nails a year ago and it was the most horrendously boring shit i ever saw.

last night's show was less than stellar (sound was muddled), although the light show was great at times
apparently debbie harry was at the show.

How was Datarock?

I really like Ladytron, but they are a studio band.

their live show is kinda pointless. it's like listening to their albums, but paying a lot of money to stand around with a few thousand other people to do that. a little stage presence could go a long way for them.
i really want to enjoy their show more.. i just don't

Last night's show was AWESOME!!
Ladytron's style doesn't require an engaging 'stage presence.' why would it? Their music is cold, detatched, and dark... what the hell do you want them to do... dance around like fucking beyonce??
all it needs to be is LOUD. Which last night was, thankfully. Their light design is awesome too... I was definitely impressed with the show. They've definitely amped up their show since the last tour.

who's the guy in the black dress?

Great pictures! I enjoyed the show very much last night. I felt that their presence and energy was very strong. Each song was performed well and the light show was great. I was up front and we were jumping and having a great time!! There were some sound problems, but nothing major in my opinion.
to the negative reviews - give ladytron a break, they are doing their own thing!(and it's a damn good thing...)

Great show! I don't understand the negative reviews. The sound wasn't ideal, but I thought they had a lot of energy and I had a lot of fun watching them. (and listening too!)

The show was amazing. Too much focus on stupid stage presence. They have style and talent-they look good and sound good and the singing is always impeccable. It's not like some big pop show where the singer can't sing at all because it's all been overproduced in the studio.

great pics
i think ladytron can be very boring if you're not in the mood...

I saw them at Webster Hall in 2006, and while I really enjoyed the show and think that it's great to hear them sing their songs live, I kind of agree that they need something more to hook me into seeing them again. That's why I wasn't too broken up about not going to the Terminal 5 show this time around, even though I LOVE their new album.
I was way more upset about missing Liz Phair this week.

I agree with Julia S. - the sound was muddled. I was stage left about 5 rows from the front (so really close), and the bass guitar and bass drums were drowning out some of the vocals, moogs and guitars. In fact, I rarely could make out the guitar. The sound was just too unbalanced. I saw them in DC in 2006 and had a fantastic time (I was in the front row right near Mira) - the sound was perfect.
Regardless, the people around me in the front didn't seem impacted by the sound and were dancing away. I had friends on the third story who said they had a fantastic time.
I had a really good time in '06 and thought they had plenty of stage presence. This show in '08 was almost identical to the '06 one save for the new songs and the frontperson duties were split more evenly between Mira and Helen, as opposed to more weighted towards Helen in '06.

great show,Great band! I dont understand the negatives reviews well yes i do,you american people never could handle good Brithish music. The sound at Terminal 5 sucks, not ladytron sound. Also a show for all ages full of twinks that do not know how to behave is horrible ,never again.Ladytron is one of the biggest electronic music bands in Europe performing in all the best festivals there and also touring with "bands" such as Chemical Brothers. dont think they would do so if they weren't good.
