Milwaukee Summerfest is June 26-July 6, 2008

Summerfest

There are a ton of bands playing the annual eleven day "world's largest music festival" in Wisconsin. That includes Gnarls Barkley, They Might Be Giants, Rush, Old 97's, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Blondie, The Polyphonic Spree, Drive By Truckers, Alejandro Escovedo, Lucinda Williams, The Roots, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and a lot of big bands in just about every genre (Jonas Brothers, Paramore and Phil Lesh included).

Milwaukee? Man, could today be any slower?

No reason to hate on Milwaukee. I'll be attending TMBG, Old 97s and Polyphonic Spree while enjoying some $6 Miller products. Try not being a snob, your life will be more enjoyable. Go Brewers.

Don't you remember that Milwaukee was named more Brooklyn than Brooklyn a few years ago?
True!
-and we don't have to worry about "The Real World: Milwaukee" any time soon.

It's no Coachella, that is for certain. The pickins ARE slim, no doubt.
Summerfest has been at it since the like 1970, and has many tastes to please.

Past highlights:
Wilco (many times), Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket, Spoon, Taj Mahal, Elvis Costello, Violent Femmes (hometown heroes)

This year:
Stevie Wonder, Lucinda Williams, Joe Cocker, Alicia Keyes, Stephen Marley, Steel Pulse, The Wailers, Tom Petty, Gnarls Barkley, Matisyahu, The Roots, Blondie, The Zombies, DBT, Alejandro Escovedo, Polyphonic Spree, Cracker and Tom Petty.

Wayne Campbell: So, do you come to Milwaukee often?

Alice Cooper: Well, I'm a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century.

Pete: Hey, isn't "Milwaukee" an Indian name?

Alice Cooper: Why Yes, Pete, it is. In fact , it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that. Does this guy know how to party or what?!

Milwaukee is a grey, crime ridden, and depressing place.. Summerfest takes place under an interstate.

"jack johnson or jonas brothers....who would you prefer?"

Jack Johnson, only because with either artist, I would resort to ogling the chicks in the crowd to amuse myself, and I don't think any Jonas Brothers fans are legal yet.

I saw Weird Al at Summerfest!

Last year I saw Spoon, Built to Spill, and Steely Dan all for about $30. Sounds better than Saturday of this year's Lollapalooza...

amen, y'all. milwaukee is dumbshit central, a slow-lane town sapped of its potential by neighboring chicago.

Summerfest was AWESOME! Saw some great bands there, including They Might Be Giants, who rocked out opening night and RUSH!!! If you love music then you must come to Summerfest sometime. Have some beer, brats and a damn good time!

Anonymous,
I notice the amateurs can't even powt their names. Summerfest is there for the fun of the masses. It's not there just to satisfy your little thing.

As for Chicago, it's fun, if you don't have put up with their self importance for long. Milwaukee let's you grow.

And here we had Weird Al just for you.
You are a coward. Dan
