Iceland Art

Sigur Rós will be playing a very special show at New York City's Museum of Modern Art on June 17th as part of the museum's PopRally series. The show will take place in conjunction with an exhibition of the work of fellow Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson entitled "Take your time: Olafur Eliasson" on view at MoMA and P.S.1 through June 30th, in addition to the celebration of Icelandic Independence Day. Tickets for this show are $18.00, and will go on sale on Tuesday, June 10th at noon via The MoMA's website - www.moma.org/poprally. Ticket sales are limited and will not be sold at the door. The ticket includes admission to the exhibit as well.

Sigur Rós will be previewing lots of new songs of their forthcoming fifth album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, which will be released June 24th, 2008 on XL Recordings. Co-produced with the band by renowned producer Flood, and recorded in New York City, London, Reykjavik and Havana, Cuba, Sigur Rós' fifth album takes the band's signature sound in an incredible new direction, moving away from reverb-soaked guitar sounds towards something altogether more affecting and unabashedly joyous. The first track from the album, "Gobbledigook," received rave reviews across the web when it was released for free download on the band's website, www.sigurros.com, early last week.

Visual artist Olafur Eliasson creates immersive environments and large-scale installations that elegantly recreate the extremes of landscape and atmosphere in his native country. This show will give music lovers and art lovers alike the opportunity to experience two of Iceland's most vital artistic forces at once.

In addition to this show, Sigur Rós will be playing select North American shows throughout June, with more dates to follow throughout the year. They are:

6/5/08 Guadalajara, MEX @ Teatro Degollado
6/7/08 Tepoztlan, MEX @ Festival La Colmena
6/11/08 Omaha, NE @ Orpheum Theater
6/12/08 Kansas City, MO @ Uptown Theater
6/14/08 Manchester, TN @ Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival
6/16/08 New York, NY @ Grand Ballroom
6/17/08 New York, NY @ The MoMA

And an Iceland show.

Did anyone pull the trigger on that $100 deluxe edition of the new album? I'm as big a fan as any, but just couldn't do it.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:00 PM

$18.00? This must be a joke?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:05 PM

The other thread has some comments about a presale for this. Does anyone have any info about a presale?

Posted by blah | June 3, 2008 4:08 PM

Yes, let's not tell anyone else, now that this information is out in cyberspace.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:11 PM

Deluxe edition is actually $120! wow

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:11 PM

What the first commenter said. SNITCHES GET STITCHES!

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:22 PM

i wonder why no one mentioned the secret show this thursday yet.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:23 PM

anon 4:00- i can't do it either. i even bought Jonsi's Riceboy Sleeps and In a Frozen Sea, but i can't justify 100 bucks for this.

Posted by jp | June 3, 2008 4:31 PM

why do you have to be 21 to go?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:40 PM

presale talk in other thread is for the grand ballroom show. people are just wondering when their hard tix will arrive in the mail.

$100 for deluxe didn't seem that bad for me. looks pretty.

Anon 4:40 - MOMA put a bar in for these shows.
But they never have enough bartenders. Its chaos. Pregame people.

Posted by clairepetrol | June 3, 2008 4:53 PM

yeah srsly let's keep this between us.

Posted by melissa | June 3, 2008 5:14 PM

i can't find anywhere that it explicitly says 21+. can someone direct me to wherever it says so? thanks

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 7:55 PM

not worth the money. although the moma's pretty awesome on its own. i wouldn't pay $18 to see sigur ros play like 5 or so songs.

You're either a cheap ass or a spoiled bastard.

The last sentence under ticket info says you have to be 21 plus. What? Why? Again, us youngins are getting screwed out of good shows. The last one was Mates of State at Mercury Lounge now this.

Posted by Six Months From 21 | June 4, 2008 1:19 AM

it's called a fake id, you fucking whiner.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 1:58 AM

hah thats what you get for being young

Posted by poopnscoop | June 4, 2008 2:24 AM

5 songs for $18 sounds good. Their normal show is usually 11 or 12 songs!

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 8:27 AM

Well crap, someone forgot to tell NME this was a secret - http://www.nme.com/news/sigur-ros/37078

nothing there about free drinks, i went last year and it was all you can drink beer and wine. I hope i get tickets to this.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 9:40 AM

poprally always has free booze.

Posted by chris | June 4, 2008 10:02 AM

nothing makes this sound like it will be 5 songs. the press release makes it sound more like it is a regular show with a full set.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 10:37 AM

sounds like free drinks to me:

Special thanks to Grolsch, Reyka Vodka, Fred and GuS - Grown-up Soda

also...i agree, the press release is really making this sound like a full show. i can't imagine...but "Sigur Rós will be previewing lots of new songs of their forthcoming fifth album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust" sounds like maybe they'll play for awhile.

im really excited about this.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 12:33 PM

these moma things always have free drinks, if you can get to the bar.

you're better off though smoking pot in the courtyard, cause who wants to listen to sigur ros drunk?

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 12:41 PM

yeah you right, this is gonna rule. I just hope i can get tickets. now the cat is out of the bag you think? hopefully people will forget when the tickets go on sale.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 12:53 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2008 12:08 PM

They went on sale at 11:57 actually which I think is kind of messed up if you're waiting to refresh at 12pm sharp.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2008 12:17 PM

whoa i feel so lucky that i was refreshing like a maniac at 1155. at 1158 i was able to get in and get a ticket. the early bird catches the worm SUCKASSSSS

Posted by melissa | June 10, 2008 2:24 PM

did anyone else get a confirmation number and e-mail that said they have a ticket but the amount listed is $0.00, I assume this means I'm SOL, but still hoping for the best. I contacted CVent and they forwarded me to a poprally e-mail address. Remember when you just bought tickets by going to the ticket outlet at the grocery store? Those were the days.
