Rilo Kiley @ Terminal 5

The set was split pretty evenly between the band's last three albums. There was a jovial performance of "Breakin' Up," which has to be the most cheerful break-up song ever recorded. "With Arms Outstretched" included what was perhaps Lewis' best moment of the night when she really let loose during the song's climactic ending chorus. "I Never" and the encore performance of "Portions For Foxes" were also highlights. [a review of last week's Toronto show]
Rilo Kiley played their first of two headlining shows at Terminal 5 in NYC last night (June 2, 2008). More pictures below...

I wish I was there...
Anyone have the setlist? Curious as to what they played.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:01 AM

look at how beautiful that telecaster deluxe is.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:26 AM

"telecaster deluxe," indeed.

Posted by butternuts | June 3, 2008 9:28 AM

The Tele Deluxe is such a great looking guitar.

Too bad I'm not into short girls. If she was 5'10"+ she would be the sexiest women ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:28 AM

set list?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:46 AM

6 comments and no mentions of the awful sound, angry staff and/or 6'5" dudes blocking the view at T5?

agreed. that tele is absolutely gorgeous. vintage instruments...it's a wonder anyone plays anything else. however, whether ms. lewis is 5'0" or 5'10", she still totally makes a case for one of the sexiest women alive. bejezus, do you see those pics?!?!?

Was Winona Ryder there?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:59 AM

she's so fcking fine...ga'damn.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:14 AM

I'm more into the P-Bass. That's hawt. Nive long, er neck. The Tele is glittery and... gay. Of course, I think Winona prefers the Tele....

Jenny Lewis will be my wife. Mark my words.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:25 AM

does anyone know who dresses jenny? i love that jumper

Posted by jen | June 3, 2008 10:32 AM

i know who could undress her, that's for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:45 AM

actually, i think winona prefers whatever she can steal at that given moment.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:46 AM

>>"I'm more into the P-Bass"

That's a Mustang bass, which I prefer more than a p-bass. The sound you get from that sucker out of a sweet Ampeg amp is something else.
Plus, the smallness is genius.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 11:00 AM

look at her Billy Idol face. haha.
she's something else..

freddie, what are you talking about?
if it's the dust motes in the first few photos you have no idea what you're talking and are nitpicking.

she's not that hot in person

melted face styles

Hold on, I didn't go to this concert but I can release this comment on behalf of those who did attend and read this blog:

"Terminal 5 is the worst venue ever, it has horrible sound, horrible viewing, is full of douchebags, is way too big, and smells like Axe bodyspray; also, I am a sad, bitter person who will spend the rest of my life miserable complaining about anything and everything"

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 11:34 AM

she is yummy, yes... but tall girls rule.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 11:40 AM

what time did they go on...how late did they play?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 11:49 AM

all ages show. they were done before 11. went on a little after 9, if i remember.

Posted by des | June 3, 2008 11:58 AM

she looks ok but check out those furry arms (especially third pic from the top)... robin williams love child?

Posted by trash talkin sandwich | June 3, 2008 12:00 PM

Ugh. People are still making jokes about Winona Ryder stealing? That is sooooo 2002, people.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:02 PM

1) they aren't that "furry" in person

2) get on Kim Gordon while you're at.

3) big deal

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:03 PM

Anon 11:34 AM, you sound like a sad, bitter person who will spend the rest of his life miserable complaining about anything and everything.

@trash talkin sandwich:

women have hair on their bodies. get the fuck over it.

Posted by butternuts | June 3, 2008 12:27 PM

slurp

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:30 PM

I was at the show and yes, it was full of douche bags (and old people!).

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:31 PM

Just curious what qualifies as an "old" person at the show last night? Over 21? Over 25? Over 30? Over 35?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:36 PM

Is that a six-string bass in some of the photos?

Posted by not a musician | June 3, 2008 12:37 PM

over 35 is old. I mean your life is practically half over, in a best case scenario.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:43 PM

nah. just the thickness of the mustang neck- and shadows
four tuning pegs = four strings

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:43 PM

Look, all I'm saying is that those arms look like they belong to the dude who slices the cold cuts at a deli. I should know, being a sandwich and all.

Besides, I think some of that fur got caught up in her bass strings. Look at the pain in the second to last pic.

Makes me think that she probably has got a hedgemaze up under that jumper.

Posted by trash talkin sandwich | June 3, 2008 12:44 PM

>>>over 35 is old. I mean your life is practically half over, in a best case scenario.

YOU = IDIOT

Question:
What's the difference between the Pbass and Mustang. both fenders, right? is it as minor a difference as a mustang and jaguar?

thank you.

well look at it this way, life expectancy is 72 or something for a male, so if youre 35, you life is practically half over. plus youre too old to join the army, police etc and good luck trying to change your career. so 35 is old, i know truth hurts but you have to deal with it.

and if you're a woman, thats practically your last shot at having a baby.

my god, are you for real? yes, you're technically correct about life being close to half over. many men live beyond 72 though, believe it or not. but your comment of "good luck" about changing careers is completely foolish. many people change careers when they're in the their 30s and do so to quite a bit of success. seriously, if you're going speak, do us all a favor here reading bv and think a bit. maybe none of YOUR friends have the capacity/desire/will to adjust the trajectory of their current lifestyle, but, um, new york city is a funny city = there's a lot of opportunity of one applies her/himself.

"What's the difference between the Pbass and Mustang. both fenders, right? is it as minor a difference as a mustang and jaguar?"

Both Fenders, yes.

Mustang is a short scale bass, intended to be a student model, but the thing sounds damn good. There's also the Musicmaster, which was the same thing with a split coil.

P-Bass is a lot more popular. It's normal scale, and has one, big, chunky, split coil pickup.

Mustang bass is a lot twangier sounding, while p-bass is a lot growlier.

And it's not a minor difference. They're two completely different instruments.

Google image the lot if you need a visual comparison.

old people? that place was packed with teenagers.

Posted by des | June 3, 2008 4:04 PM

Thanks, Dan. bravo on the bass info.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:19 PM

So it's not a six-string bass. Who played bass when she played that guitar?

Posted by not a musician | June 3, 2008 4:32 PM

maybe nobody. they went via blonde redhead/jsbx

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 4:40 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 5:05 PM

they have a bassist, i think he must play keyboards or something when she's playing bass.

Posted by Dan | June 3, 2008 5:56 PM

that flower print jumper is kind of horrendous. otherwise... cool guitars.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 9:12 PM

Jumper? Don't mind if I do.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:04 PM

HIYO!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 10:17 PM

i can't believe i'm really about to say this, but the sound at terminal 5 was really good tonight for rilo's set. maybe it's because i was up front and toward the middle, but it was a pretty good upgrade from the last time i was at this place.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 12:42 AM
