Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:06 PM
Yes, keep trying even though it sucks and you will succeed.
The real pain in the ass is going to be trying to pick up the tix at one of the three times in the next week!

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:12 PM
guys somethings not right, if capacity is only 400 how can so many people get theirs? i know one thing, im going down to that first pick-up day asap.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:13 PM
it was a pain, but finally worked. it's going to be an amazing show!
Posted by banyon | June 12, 2008 12:13 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:15 PM
did anyone NOT get them?
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:15 PM
where did you get the 400 number from?
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:15 PM
sold out!
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:16 PM
400 i think was mentioned in connection to past shows there. might be less than 400 actually.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:16 PM
they are all reserved now it seems
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:17 PM
um you can fit more than 400 people in the park i think
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:17 PM
they are sold out and this is INSANE. i went back to try and get a pair for my sister and i got hit with the WE'RE SORRY! message.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:17 PM
I didn't get them. never got a confirmation. Steaming...
Posted by anonymous2 | June 12, 2008 12:18 PM
this is not in the park, this is inside that fort thing.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:18 PM
Where is the 400 number from?
I think that space can hold a lot more than 400 if they are setting it up the same way they did last year...
Posted by anon | June 12, 2008 12:19 PM
They give out about 1000 reservations, figuring a bunch of people wont pick them up, and then that a bunch who do won't show up anyway. If 600 of the 1000 people who reserve on-line actually show up at the concert, that's a pretty good percentage. may be a few who have reservations/tickets who don't get in.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:19 PM
it holds like 5,000....
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:19 PM
this is fucked.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:19 PM
you can easily go to the show and stand outside the park fence. i've been to the past 2 july 4th shows there (the new pornographers, belle & sebastian).
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:20 PM
fuck! didn't get them even though i was trying for ten minutes... fuckers fuckers
12:18 -- why are you assuming it's in the fort?! all 7/4 shows in the past four years (ylt and malkmus, belle & sebastian, new pornos) have taken place in battery park itself, which accommodates much more than 400. more like a couple of thousand.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:21 PM
Or you can easliy get the free tickets online and stand INSIDE the park fence!
Awesome give-away!
Thanks as always BKVeg!
xo
Posted by James Escobar | June 12, 2008 12:22 PM
thats why i said im picking up the tickets on that 1st day.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:23 PM
What are most of you idiots like 12? or did you just move to Williamsburg from bumfuck nowhere
Just so fucking dumb
Here is some info
The show is not at the fort. It is in the park which holds way more than 400 and it never gets so filled up for July 4th
They secure a certain amount of reserved tickets and then after the pickup they give away more plus the day of the show there is always guards down there giving away more tickets.
Relax if you want to go you can get in and there is plenty of room to move around.
If you did not print out that screen it is ok they will also send it in an email
Hopefully some of you will stop having a heart attack now.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:23 PM
The 4th shows are not in castle clinton. They are outside on the lawn and can hold way more than 400 people.
Posted by bob | June 12, 2008 12:23 PM
12:20 - i stood outside the fence for the malkmus show three years ago (that's before they required tickets - you were just supposed to show up) - and it was horrible. could hardly see anything because of the fucking trees, and the sound was almost non-existent back there. so not recommended at all.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:24 PM
and you can always get the scalps from craigslist
cheer up
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:25 PM
it's on the lawn on battery park. thousands of people...
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:25 PM
12:22 - i was trying to make the people who didn't get tickets feel a bit better. i'll see you inside the fence, punk.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:25 PM
The show is actually in the Castle Clinton supply closet. Holds about 17 people total (including the band)
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:25 PM
the show is in lee ranaldo's tight ass
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:28 PM
got tutus, sonic youth and melvins tix all in one day. not bad
wilco>melvins is going to be epic.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:28 PM
It's true the view from outside can be better then inside. It's a huge field. The only problem is when the Parks Dept. holds up the line at half capacity to do "crowd control".
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:29 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:29 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:29 PM
last year (new pornos), lots of people were just walking in the day of (w/ tickets distributed by the security guards). then again, that was the lame new pornos, not sonic youth. but more tickets will almost definitely become available.
but in the meantime... didn't get my tickets... fucking fuckedup fuckers... fuck that shit.

the feelies are reuniting, which the college radio crowd must appreciate
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:33 PM
kim gordon's ass is shitting tickets right now outside north 7th and bedford. get there fast!
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:35 PM
I fear the half hour I just spent refreshing my browser is just the start of a long gauntlet of standing in lines to get a ticket, and then lines to get into the park on the day of the show.
The ticketing free shows thing is a pretty humane idea if they don't blow it. That website was infuriating until it worked.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:35 PM
The show will actually be held in the Battery Park Starbucks right up the block from Castle Clinton and the Park itself.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:36 PM
Last year was raining all day for the New Pornos show - so a relatively low turnout.
If the weather is nice this year + free in NYC = Mob Scene.
Glad I'm seeing the Feelies at Maxwells.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:28 PM
WHy would you get Titus tickets when they are playing for free all over the fucking city in the next month or so?
And if you are planning on Wilco to Melvins on the same night you are cutting it close there. May have to leave Wilco early to catch Melvins. Better bet was to get the Bowery Show
"The only problem is when the Parks Dept. holds up the line at half capacity to do "crowd control".
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:29 PM"
Oh stop with bullshit. They dont stop people from going in, Anyone who has a ticket gets in. The lines are long but it never takes too much time to get in. It moves quick. Just dont show up right at 3:30 when the show starts and you will get in with enough time to relax and chill before the band comes on.
And dont buy tickets from scalpers, it doesnt matter that this is Sonic Youth and not New Pornos. Even if you dont get tickets before the day of show there will be plenty of them being given away by the guards at the show.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 12:43 PM

I'm an idiot and didn't print screen because I was counting on the email.
Posted by Annie Haste | June 12, 2008 1:13 PM
well i got to say getting tix to this makes up for the disappointement of not getting Sigur Ros MoMA tix.
anyone know what time the shows are over on july 4? i wa thinking of going to another show at 8 pm that day.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:14 PM
"back in the early 2000's you could just walk up for these concerts. billy bragg one year and emmylou harris another year. great shows."
Back in the early 1990's you could just walk up for Sonic Youth at Summerstage. great show.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:20 PM
back in the early 1980's, i'd just walk up to thurston w/ a guitar and we'd start jamming.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:25 PM
Back in the early 70s, I'd walk up to Dee Dee Ramone with 5 bucks and get a blowjob.

Taking inflation into account, you paid far, far too much.
Posted by VikramP | June 12, 2008 1:44 PM
there really is no point to rsvp'ing and then picking up tickets. there will be a TON of tickets at the gate, the day of the show.
the ticket system is simply a crowd control measure to make sure it doesnt became a mob scene, but it's not really meant to deny anyone entry.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:45 PM
I will trade one Coldplay @ MSG ticket for one SY on 7/4 ticket. E-mail me: obama@m.i.a.com
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:59 PM
unless it actually starts out as a mob scene, in which case having an advance ticket will matter.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 2:09 PM
You'd be able to make an 8PM show after Sonic Youth.
In R2R's defense, why should they pay to pump up their bandwidth for something they need once or twice a year? I'm sure a non-profit putting on free concerts is just rolling in extra dough....
Can I get an Amen for SY playing some new tunes? Or at least not leaning so heavily on Rather Ripped? I've seen RR stuff a healthy 4 times already, 0 of which times they played anything from Washing Machine through Sonic Nurse.
Posted by Tito | June 12, 2008 2:13 PM

"They dont stop people from going in, Anyone who has a ticket gets in. The lines are long but it never takes too much time to get in."
Anyone who got stuck outside, or stuck in line at the Yo La Tengo/Malkmus show would tell you otherwise. The Park & Rec cut off entrance to the park and were doing a first in first out routine. People were stuck in a snaking line that never moved for the majority of the show.
Same with all popular Summerstage shows where they hold the door periodically, and create large lines that barely move.
It doesn't matter how early you get there if the park isn't open yet, and they're requiring you to line up.
Have they issued tix for battery park shows before? We don't know what to expect, but the sound and sight lines outside the fence can be better then inside the park honestly.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 2:25 PM
yo la tengo/malkmus wasn't a ticketed event.
the belle and sebastian, and new pornographer shows were, and it was hardly a mob scene. most people who didnt have tickets didnt bother showing up, but those who did, ended up getting tickets at the door anyway.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 2:30 PM
afterparty at the starbucks on manhattan ave, when this show gets moved to studio b rooftop.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 2:42 PM
yeah but like someone mentioned before, last year it rained all afternoon, thats why people didnt bother showing up. if 4,500 people paid 40 bucks to see them at the pool last year, how many people you think want to see them for free? 40 thousand? anyway, im just happy i got my ticket.
and btw, received my confirmation e-mail about 1 hour ago.
Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 2:57 PM
My confirmation email just came now.

ok?

As someone said before Mr anon nitwit, those shows you used as an example were not ticketed shows so of course you were not def getting in. Stupid. If you have a ticket for THIS event you most def will get in 100 percent. If you show up at the start of the show it may take you a little bit of time to get in and you may not see the start of the show but you will get in for sure. And there will be tons of tickets being given away the day of by the guards. This is not going to be a mob scene and last years crowd or lack of had nothing to do with the fact that it rained. It did not rain till well into the show and it was light at best It is July 4th. Many of those "4500 people paying 40 to see them last year" are doing something else that day.

Anon 4:27, you're so silly. I'm sorry that I happen to think it's by far their worst album. Did I reference it not sounding like anything else anywhere? Nope, didn't think so. I've got a pretty broad appreciation of their work from noisier side to the poppier stuff but that album doesn't cut it. I had hoped that it would translate better live but alas, it was just as disappointing. Their other albums in the era the other poster mentioned do have redeeming qualities but NYC Ghosts & Flowers doesn't.
Help me understand, if I happen to agree with Pitchfork I'm clearly a mindless drone but if I disagree with them I'm just a hater, right?

I didn't read any of this thread nor care but I didn't want to feel left out of one with so goddamn many posts.
