Do you think the song "Thank You Too" is a tribute to the Golden Girls theme song?

Jim James eats pieces of shit like you for breakfast.

^^that's an unappetizing mixed metaphor

Thanks for the black cab link it totally makes up for Evil Urges. I still can't believe this is the same Jim James.

Every photo I've seen of MMJ shows them rocking out with flying v's and flailing hair. Yet, their records are totally soft and mellow. Do they really ramp it up live?

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2008 1:28 PM

Yes they ramp it up big time live. Be sure not to miss them when they hit your town.

How is it that all the critics wait in line to drool over MMJ albums??? I have all of their albums. And they're all decent - nothing spectacular. "Z" is perhaps one of the most overrated albums of all time btw - as mediocre as it gets. They do one thing well, and that is play live - probably better than anyone else right now, which was aptly captured in their best release to date "Okonokos." Why isn't that enough for the critics... They're badass live... They're just ok in the studios. Why is/has there (been) such a need, based on the groundswell stemming from their live rep, to anoint them as the next great rock band - subsequently praising their every effort. Which other truly great bands, over the course of their first 5 studio albums, failed to create a time/genre withstanding masterpiece... answer... none of them. As much as I love/have loved/and will continue to love MMJ, they don't deserve a place to sit at the grownup table in the big scheme of things. They're cool for now, but not for generations. It's not like some kid's going to pick up "The Tennessee Fire" in 20 years from now and find the necessary source of inspiration to write the next great rock album.

man... this is the first time i've listened to MMJ for more than a minute or two, and i have to say... this is some of the most mediocre music i've ever heard. not good, not bad, just totally lifeless, uninspiring, and devoid of hardly any sonic or melodic interest. i can't believe people think this is great music. what's wrong with your ears?!?

(btw, my favorite albums are by lou reed, neil young, the stones, guided by voices, big star, pavement, dylan, prince, iggy pop, the cure, and the afghan whigs. just so you know this is not coming from a daft deacon fan...)

Daft Deacon....I like it...

I'm not sure that your list of "credentials" is anything to brag about... hit and miss, mate, hit and miss...
