The Hold Steady's new album isn't out until July 15th, but they posted the whole thing to MySpace. They play McCarren Pool on June 29th (thx Ray).

They started being literary, 10:21, when they involved your crack whore mom. Granted, not a rich character on the surface, but later on she got deep. Or, rather, some guys did.

people hate on them b/c they make annoyingly shitty bar rock and seem like total douchebags.
simple as that!

Best record of the year, give it a listen instead of hating

they are the only indie band alive that actually enjoy the fact that they get to be in a band. they're also incredibly close with their fans. and for the record, they're very aware that craig has a "terrible" voice. they reference it all the time in interviews. guess who else has a terrible voice? pretty much every band discussed on BV.
the lyrics, the live show, the kubler.

Don't believe the hype, Jonathan.

these songs are great. The third one is slow but I'm feeling the vocals. More guitar than the last record, which is great. Fave track so far is "Joke About Jamaica."
