The Cure played Radio City Music Hall, NYC - pic & setlist
The Cure's Robert Smith @ RCMH, NYC - June 22, 2008 (katdlr)

At Radio City Music Hall on Saturday night the band methodically laid out each part of its musical patterns: drumbeats from Jason Cooper, bass lines from Simon Gallup, overlapping guitar hooks from Porl Thompson and Mr. Smith. The band relies on the orderliness shared by Minimalism and dance music, letting Mr. Smith's voice smudge and puncture the musical grids. In its current four-man lineup, the Cure can pound and drive like a punky new wave band, particularly in the songs it has been releasing as previews of its 13th album, due in September. More often it lets the guitars reverberate, with the music swelling to match the yearning in Mr. Smith's lyrics. [NY Times]The Cure played MSG one night earlier - the same night My Morning Jacket was playing Radio City. The Cure Radio City setlist below....

"Adagio For Strings (Intro)"
Geez, what a downer of a way to kick off a concert.

it was a fantastic concert! the band sounded tight, which the rcmh acoustics only magnified. the cure definitely sounded better than a lot of the emo-tastic bands out there today, despite their age/looks/what have you.
robert smith's "gawky movements" were a bit theatrical, and related well to the theater space and its audience. his climb up the side stairs amazing, slightly taunting the security.
by the end of the night, the entire auditorium was dancing in a trance. the energy was great... and we didn't want to go... ;)

Weemo, the lyric goes, "jumping someone else's train," not, "jumping Linda Ronstadt."

i don't get why people are disappointed when the cure does something slow, mopey etc.. . . that's what they're famous for. Why do people make comments about "too man slow songs" "too many depressing songs" " what a downer way to start a concert" (i know not all of these comments were made on this page but i've read a bunch of reviews and lots of these complaints are made)
