The Fratellis @ Webster Hall, NYC - pics
photos by Chris La Putt

"Although the Fratellis saw major chart success in the United Kingdom with 2006's "Costello Music," the Glasgow, Scotland, band is best-known in the United States for its song "Flathead" being featured in an iTunes commercial. Back for round two, sophomore album "Here We Stand" doesn't quite bring anything new to the table, but does carry on in the same fun, brash rock tradition of the debut." [Billboard]
"Like Alex Turner with a head injury, Jon Fratelli writes observational lyrics that observe nothing, and character songs with no character: witness the shameless codswallop of Mistress Mabel." [Guardian]
Yesterday (June 13, 2008) The Fratellis played two shows in NYC. The first was in a record store. The second was at Webster Hall. More pictures from the latter below....

Too harsh, that criticism. Jon's got a great voice, and their new songs sounded great live. The new album takes time to like. Apparently in today's age of instant gratification for ME ME ME, that doesn't jibe well. Their music is fun. Is there something wrong with that?

BTW, no reviews of the opening band, The Airborne Toxic Event? They were amazing. Nice people, too. Their EP is a hint at great things to come.
