I felt the same way as Tito at the Boston show. Also, the crowd was way shittier then it used to be.

but the loved ones were great... if you're 13 and like to hang out at the mall.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:11 AM

from that one picture looks like it was pretty full house.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:12 AM

anyone ever seen a worse live band than the Loved Ones? trying to think of one but can't.

to truly comprehend what a clown the singer is, keep in mind he was wearing those shades during a thunderstorm.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:24 AM

wait....that wasn't Good Charlotte opening for the Hold Steady?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:27 AM

I have all of my photos from the show up here:

I was so glad the skies cleard for The Hold Steady.

nice cutoffs

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:38 AM

Either Franz is sporting a fake 'stasche or he grew facial longer facial hair magically within one or two days, because I got a bird's eye view in Boston last Thursday and am pretty certain it was looking more Hitler-esque than his signature style we've all come to know.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:39 AM

Anyone have a set list?

Posted by hoodrat | June 30, 2008 9:39 AM

isnt it dangerous to do a slip n slide with a child?

whenever i see these pics, im caught between the fact that it looks awesome and the fact that williamsburg is truly never never land.

you're not good

Posted by hoodrat | June 30, 2008 10:08 AM

Anyone know what time the first band when on? That kind of information will be helpful for future Pool Parties, at which I'd like to see the bands, but minimize my exposure to hipsters in short-shorts and trucker hats.

Posted by Super-Extra | June 30, 2008 10:12 AM

Did J. Roddy bail due to the weather or another reason? I always thought they'd be a pretty good opener for HS.

Posted by Steve | June 30, 2008 10:39 AM

spektor??

come on now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:43 AM

i love this "confused frat boy who moved to williamsburg and is now unique for wearing cut offs" look... the edge is sooo indie, condo town forever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:47 AM

J Roddy Did play. went on at 3:30pm-- which is what i said in the first post asking for set times. pay attention people.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:49 AM

I stopped by for the Hold Steady encore and the new songs sounded great. But I couldn't help but look around and notice McCarren is almost entirely surrounded by brand-new luxury condos now. just crazy.

Posted by Disneyland | June 30, 2008 10:52 AM

Hold Steady plays such boring music. But they did put on a lively show. The Loved Ones were great all around. Overall, a good time.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:58 AM

those will all be rental towers, since no one can afford the condo price. i hear the lowest price is 2950 per month for a studio.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 11:12 AM

how did this happen? how did W'burg turn into an orgy of luxury development? there is clearly a disconnect between the local zoning or planning board and the residents.

Posted by Disneyland | June 30, 2008 11:20 AM

How was J Roddy?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 11:28 AM

nevernudes.

Posted by grace6697 | June 30, 2008 11:38 AM

J roddy was great! i think more bands should sport spurs on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 12:20 PM

Dude playing dodgeball looks like a complete asshole.

Like, "hey, I'm down, I'm cool, I'm 'chill,'... but underneath my cool-guy exterior I've so carefully coifed, I'm an overly competitive prick no different than the kind of people I rail against at Bedford parties."

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 12:21 PM

"Dude playing dodgeball looks like a complete asshole."

how the f would you know? based on a picture? Your going to judge someone based on a picture? or how they dress?

c'mon dude. grow up.

LMAO!!!

Posted by Pop GURU | June 30, 2008 1:01 PM

hahaha thats fucking hilarious

but dont tell him. dont drop tiny hints, we dont want him to guess. dont mention tampa he" ll just know all the rest. dont tell the hangers on, dont tell your frends

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:07 PM

I think anyone who wears their hat sideways like that is probably a douchebag.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:11 PM

J. Roddy were almost as bad as the Loved Ones. They both sounded like covers bands, except without the covers, so they just played their own shitty originals.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:28 PM

the first band were just spinal tap, but less talented. the loved ones were great (and good sports about the rain) and the hold steady (as always) were amazing and entertaining. too bad the sound sucks at mccarren.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:33 PM

dude, it's outdoors so it's variably going to suffer, but it was fine from where i was standing. don't expect bowery ballroom acoustics.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:50 PM

Hold steady rocks!
If you like Hold Steady you should listen to Right on Dynamite. Three rad dudes from BK, good friends with all the hold stediers.

Posted by Nicholas c | June 30, 2008 1:53 PM

i love the sound at terminal 5.

Posted by grace6697 | June 30, 2008 2:01 PM

"Dude playing dodgeball looks like a complete asshole."

I agree. I will never let him in Santos Party House, ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 2:11 PM

yeah ok here we go with fuckin santos party house again.

we know that place is fucking terrible and a waste of everyones time.

can we talk about the cool party yesterday? please.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 2:16 PM

there's something profoundly un-rock about the singer's blue polo from old navy.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 3:13 PM

suburban dad rock

Posted by andrew | June 30, 2008 3:24 PM

"can we talk about the cool party yesterday? please."

where was the cool party yesterday? santos?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 3:25 PM

What a wicked looking party. Up here in Canada we only see those kinds of parties once every two to three years. However, Pemberfest is coming this year, which should be good.

Posted by acne treatment | June 30, 2008 3:30 PM

Santos Party House = worst bar ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 3:32 PM

the picture shows a full house, but when i rolled up during the beginning the hold steady set, the pool was maybe 1/3 full. they were collapsing the slip 'n slide and halfway through the set they killed off the dodgeball.

but i got a free beach towel and got to check out some sweet Scion cars!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 3:38 PM

now that we got that out of the way..

BRING ON THE BREEDERS, MGMT, AND BLACK KEYYYSSS!!!

WOOOOHHHOOOO!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 3:52 PM

i don't think his cutoffs are that short, just folded up. leave the guy alone.

Posted by Chase | June 30, 2008 4:40 PM

Dear Anon 3:38...

It may have not been full but there were more ppl in the rain for the Hold Steady for free than for a sunny $50 Devo show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 4:41 PM

or a tuesady night at santos party house for that matter!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:00 PM

williamsburg blows. home of the over-gentrified, obnoxious, ugly jean short wearing yuppies and hipsters. jean shorts are just hideous. the music in williamsburg is catering to the suburban soccer mom. you hipsters and that shitty indie rock. the music is terrible! luxury condos will soon be all over williamsburg. north brooklyn has become shit. what a mess.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:06 PM

Hold Steady = frat band = more of the suburban takeover = not good

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:23 PM

The Hold Steady should play Jones Beach. That's their scene....What a shitty band.....

Posted by hum | June 30, 2008 5:32 PM

we all look bad in these pictures, because we'd been rained on for hours. anybody who stayed through the rain was there because we have irrational love for the Hold Steady, so we were all happy to be there.

the dodgeball denim-shorts guy was hot--the photo doesn't capture it, but he was tall, fit, and gay as hell. Like a lot of guys at the show he looked like he was in town for pride weekend and came out to enjoy some rain and indie rock, while you clever kids were home watching the History Channel.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:47 PM

i want to stab everybody who comments on this site.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:49 PM

At least the hipsters got to take a bath, even if it was just plain water. They were all beginning to smell REALLY bad after the whole winter without one.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 6:00 PM

reagan joke! ^

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 7:15 PM

loved ones, hold steady and j roddy all amazing

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 7:20 PM

loved ones show was so fun, hold steady ripped.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 7:20 PM

Hold Steady: A good bar band. Annoying music. Lead singer is even more annoying.
It's not a revival meeting.

Loved Ones were much more enjoyable.

booooooooooooooooooooooring

If a bomb was dropped on McCarren Pool during this show and killed all in attendence, NYC wouldbe a far better place.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 11:25 PM

A lot of you commenters are very scary and must feel really threatened by people you call hipsters and/or yuppies. What's the deal? Try not to let the world frighten you so much.
