The Kooks & Morning Benders @ Terminal 5, NYC - pics

photos by Kyle Dean Reinford

The Kooks @ Terminal 5

I'm always fighting with people about The Kooks. I don't like them, but a lot of other people seem to (especially photographers). Bao likes them. Kyle (who took the pictures this time) likes them. Chris Graham wanted to see them at Sasquatch, and apparently two nights worth of approximately-3000-capacity Terminal 5 people wanted to see them this week in NYC too. Last night they played Terminal 5 with The Morning Benders (June 10, 2008). Tonight both bands do the same. More pics from last night below....

Who the hell are these guys?

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:13 PM

too many closeups. I agree w/ a commenter on the breeders post.... seems like photogs are losing their creativity... pics from every show look the same.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:26 PM

Why the fuck is the lead singer sporting that Caligula-like hair piece?

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:31 PM

Anyone know what time the Kooks went on last night? Thanks

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:31 PM

BV quick can a helicopter for your photographers so they can do some bird's eye view of concerts.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:33 PM

what, these guys play guitars and sing? seems like these musicians are losing their creativity. every musician looks the same! boring!

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:33 PM

I like the last shot of the singer of Morning Benders. Good work Kyle.

Posted by Bryan | June 11, 2008 1:55 PM

the kooks went on at like 9:30

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:56 PM

oh brooklynvegan, i love when you give me opinions. tell me what else you dont like.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:59 PM

its easy to forget that photographers usually have 3 songs (10-15 minutes) to take these photos. Pretty impressive, I'd say.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:59 PM

Did the Nat person (English rockabilly) open the show last night?

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 1:59 PM

what's up with this whole attack on photographers thing going on here? are people just tired of ripping on the music and hipster haircuts? i personally appreciate the increased photo posts here.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 2:00 PM

if you'd like, i could submit less photos. that way there would be less close ups.

I was already a mild fan going into the show (their first cd anyway... haven't heard the newest). Regardless, I didn't know what to expect. Amazing live performance. Pinpoint harmonies, great energy. All the songs translate well live. Despite being at Terminal 5, and the fact that the crowd consisted primarily of 18 year old girls and college frat-tard types, I would highly recommend trying to grab tix for tonight.

kyle, can you try to make the people look less nerdy/young next time, i mean what is this Degrassi Junior high band, wtf? also, more audience pix!

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 2:12 PM

Hmmm, seems kind of hard not to like the Kooks--nothing controversial there. Unless you don't like pop music, in general. I want more descriptive opinion!

Posted by Beth | June 11, 2008 2:15 PM

they suck. photos do not.

what do you think this is prefixmag?

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 2:24 PM

photos are great by the way.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 2:32 PM

Photos rule! I am a bit biased.

Posted by Bao | June 11, 2008 2:48 PM

I liked The Kooks first album for when I needed a brainless pop fix. But they look like such twats that I've started to find them offensive.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2008 3:15 PM

his voice is horrible live

Good work Kyle dont worry bout the haters...not just any idiot can do what we do with 15 mins worth of shooting time...keep up the good work!

I thought the Kooks were great (for a bunch of kids). Awesome photos Bao.

Posted by Chris Graham | June 12, 2008 12:19 AM

er, awesome photos Kyle!

I think BV is becoming one of the best sites around for live music photography in terms of quantity and quality. It's an honor to have my Sasquatch! photos on this site.

The Kooks fucking blow.

Razorlight frontman/shameless narcissist Johnny Borrell infamously referred to The Kooks as being “…bending down, with their arses in the air, waiting to be fucked by Radio 1,” in what must be one of the more blatant examples of the pot calling the kettle black.

However, after witnessing The Kooks’ mind-numbingly bland brand of rhythmic pop in the flesh, I must lend credence to Borrell’s bitchy comments

I took some vids of the show, including a clip of a cover by the Kinks I believe he said:

the morning benders are tight.

yeah I agree comments section here sucks, but the site overall is pretty good because it is a sort of a chronicle of our times, thanks to the photographers.

They covered Victoria by the Kinks

Posted by Bill | June 12, 2008 11:34 AM

Noah,

What exactly is "tight" about the Morning Benders. They look/sound like every other band that would be playing the Coachella/Lollapalooza side-stage at 1 pm.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 1:34 PM

i like them too. i think they're fun and they put on a good show. i saw them two years ago? last year? idk, whenever they played Irving Plaza and it was really really fun. the morning benders are pretty adorable as well.

kyle dean reinford once stood in front of me at a show. also in back of me once. kyle dean reinford takes very good pictures. kyle dean reinford looked like a young rufus wainwright when kyle dean reinford had long hair.

those 45 degree angle shots at prefixmag just drive me nuts. I hate it when photogs use that technique, its so 60s batman. I cant bear to look at those photos.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2008 3:02 PM

morning benders- twangy with two asians. i'd say not like any other band playing coachella or lolla.

good? tbd.
