Tom Petty & Steve Winwood @ MSG, NYC - pics

photos by Eric M. Townsend

Tom Petty and Steve Winwood

Early on in Tom Petty's sold-out Madison Square Garden gig last night he uttered words rarely heard at his shows: "You probably don't know this next one." The band then launched into the super obscure 1999 Europe-only B side "Sweet William." The bluesy, organ-heavy number was a clear indication this wasn't going to be the typical nothing-but-the-hits Petty show he's done on recent tours. With no new album to support, Petty was free to drag out the gems. [Rolling Stone]

With the exception of "Sweet William" and Winwood joining them for "Can't Find My Way Home" and "Gimme Some Lovin", (which he has on the other shows he's opened) it was Tom Petty rolling through the hits. And I loved it along with a bunch of hedge fund frat boys.

My son and I seen Tom Petty on June 11th at The Dodge Music Center in Hartford Ct. We ABSOLUTELY had the most awesome time! He TOTALLY rocked and the audience of this sold out show joined in on every single song, because he belted out EVERY SINGLE song everyone knew. My son and I wish we could go to every single show. I saw Tom Petty at least 7 times since the 70's. He is as GREAT today as he was then. We definately reccomend seeing him, we just wished we could have gotten seats closer. SEE HIM HE is soooooo worth going to see. PETTY=AWESOME + 1 billion!
