Ulrich Schnauss played the World Financial Center (pics) ++ Union Hall TONIGHT & other tour dates
photos by Ryan Muir
watching Ulrich Schnauss @ the Winter Garden, NYC - June 24, 2008

His music is hard to describe. A combination of machine music and classic shoegaze, his tunes often remind me of a waterfall of sonic wonder, layer upon layer that could easily sound like chaos, but somehow manages to transport the listener somewhere else. It's as if the rain starts slowly and then becomes a deluge. If you haven't heard him, check out his albums. Great works. [Mf]Now that last night's free show at the World Financial Center happened it can be announced that Ulrich Schnauss will also be playing a show at Union Hall in Brooklyn tonight (June 25, 2008). Auburn Lull, Luxa and Screen Vinyl Image are also on the bill. More pictures from the Winter Garden, and all tour dates, below....

is this the same winter garden that used to house CATS???
also, what do you have to know to get into one of these free shows? fennesz is wonderful.
furthermore, can we at least hope fennesz will announce another show once he finishes with this free one?

Such a beautiful show!! It's really hard to capture what this experience was like in pictures (obviously, watching a guy at his laptop is not interesting), but the visuals that accompanied Ulrich's amazing sound was perfect for making this show memorable. It was gorgeous and hypnotic to watch. :)

Never mind, that post is dated May 30 and BV wrote, "Now that last night's free show at the World Financial Center happened it can be announced that Ulrich Schnauss will also be playing a show at Union Hall in Brooklyn tonight (June 25, 2008)."

A nice polite audience of people who were waiting in line to pick up their Sonic Youth tickets...
Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 1:24 PM
right, there is also no mention of ulrich on the ticketweb page to buy tickets
Posted by ANONYMOUSMOFO | June 25, 2008 1:59 PM
he's playing. it couldn't be announced until today. he's doing the next 3 days with all the bands that are playing tonight. it's not to hard to put the pieces together....

It's not the cats winter garden - it's the world financial center winter garden (downtown with the big palm trees). Don't have to do anything to go to these free shows - just show up.

love his music but godDAMN he can be boring live... best part of his show @ bowery a few years back? when somebody yelled out "GET ANY NEW EMAIL?" . even ulrich couldn't resist laughing at that one

Did anyone go last night?

I was there. Ulrich played from 11-12.

Ulrich played a set that was heavier on the electro than on the ambient/shoegaze. It was still pretty damn good, though. Couldn't have been more than 20 people there at the end. And Auburn Lull were really good.
