Yes that is awesome if you are a complete loser with absolutely no life. To myself and im sure many others that just seems pathetic.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | June 29, 2008 8:29 PM

Gibsons or Epiphones, anyone know?

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 8:45 PM

Good thing you left, Titus Andronicus were terrible. Their songs are good catchy pop-punk, but they need to lose two guitarists and concentrate on singing a bit better. The only guitar player that could play was the one playing keys (then switching to a Tele w/ bigsby and then a green Strat) and the singer. The guitarists are either side were dead weight and have no reason to be on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 8:49 PM

hey i'm under the blue!

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 9:28 PM

So? What do you want, a cookie?

Posted by Mrs. Fields | June 29, 2008 9:37 PM

>>>The guitarists are either side were dead weight and have no reason to be on stage.

this tend to be a common theme with many new bands i find represented on this here site. of course, i also love many of the bands found here too. i'm just sayin'... lots of new bands carring around a lot of dead weight. they look pretty and kool, but can't play worth shite.

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 10:13 PM

the picture illustrates that the concert essentially got rained out, not that nobody showed up for the bands. I personally didn't go because of the rain.

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 10:13 PM

I didn't rain until the very end. T.A. had two more songs left before it started to rain. There is no one there because no one wanted to go, not because of the rain.

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 10:35 PM

"I didn't rain until the very end."

Thank you God!

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 11:28 PM

Anon 10:35 -- I think you and I may be remembering two slightly different audiences, then.

Posted by Toby / ERMP | June 29, 2008 11:37 PM

Titus Andronicus play well and have energy, sometimes it takes a song or two for them to warm up though.

to be fair, the photo depicts them playing a show that any reasonable show organizer would have canceled due to the rainy weather.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 12:04 AM

manhattan asshole:

why the hate? you seem like a really angry guy.

and staying in after doing a 75 mile bike ride in the morning and a nice dinner at degustation the night before with the girlfriend seems like heaven to me.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 12:38 AM

god. i'm on brooklynvegan in photo form. this is a strange development.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:02 AM

hey manhattan 8:29. Your remarks show you to be the real loser.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:11 AM

anyone that reads this blog (on even a fairly regular basis) knows that manhattan not brooklyn asshole indeed lives up to his/her name.
what a tool.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:51 AM

About 10,000 people showed up for The National at the Seaport last year in similar weather conditions. Titus Andronicus seems to be somewhat of a Pitchfork fabrication. Maybe someone in the band is related to // is friends with // works for Pitchfork.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 4:09 AM

Have you listened to Titus Andronicus? If so, you would know they are actually good. Also, just because Titus Andronicus entered your radar when Pitchfork gave them a good review, doesn't mean they are a fabrication. The buzz in NYC was huge on them well before that review.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 6:48 AM

Anon 12:04 AM:

I'm guessing that the "any reasonable show organizer" bit is directed at us. First -- the weather was good for three of the four bands' sets. The rain was light for the beginning of Titus Andronicus's set; by the time it got heavier -- which it was at this point, as you can tell by the tarps covering most of the gear on stage -- the decision was essentially mutually made to bring things to a close.

I suspect that had we looked at the forecast on Friday and said, well, there's a fifty percent chance of rain -- let's call the show off, we'd be taking an equal amount of criticism for that decision from anonymous commenters. Call me crazy.

Posted by Toby / ERMP | June 30, 2008 7:23 AM

The park was full till Obits finished. It was sunny and beautiful out. OBITS KILLED!!! oh weell. sorry Titus :(

Posted by Hater Police | June 30, 2008 7:53 AM

obits and blood city were sensational!! never saw blood city before. singers on PCP---guys a lunatic!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:01 AM

who is that band??? they rocked my milkshake! Obits were great too

Posted by Daniel Plainview | June 30, 2008 8:05 AM

Blood City drummer was way too loud. I think HE was on PCP! Everyone was deaf before Obits began.

Posted by Zack | June 30, 2008 8:12 AM

Titus rocks you squid brains!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:19 AM

The band was too loud?! They made Obits sound like Air Supply! Rock and fucking ROLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

Posted by bloody Mary | June 30, 2008 8:21 AM

my first time seeing obits and/or titus. obits was disappointing, i expected something closer to hot snakes/drive like jehu. pretty standard rock. not bad, but nothing like what i had in mind. we knew the second we laid eyes on titus that they were in fact a pitchfork fabrication. wow, no one gets on stage with that many guitars unless they've got some serious tricks up their sleeve, or just no sense. they weren't as bad as i feared, but i had no qualms leaving as soon as the rain started. it is a really nice venue, if they booked bands that were good enough to approach filling the place.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:30 AM

Titus totally rocked till the end of their set was cut by GOD. Blood city were by far the best. I think the singer and tghe drummer need to smoke a peace pipe maybe. And Obits were great, but I miss Hot Snakes!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:32 AM

Blood City RULED! I heard they paid off god for the great weather trick. I didnt catch Titus but that photo looks pretty bad. ouch!

Posted by Rick | June 30, 2008 8:43 AM

looks like blood city, obits and titus told their friends about this post

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:51 AM

Blood City kicked my royal ass! and I had come to NY to find my queen. I found Led Zeppelin in the park instead. BLOODY GREAT SHOW!

Posted by Akeem | June 30, 2008 8:57 AM

@"Have you listened to Titus Andronicus?" - I saw them at MHoW recently and lost interest after two songs, although saying "lost interest" presupposes it existed in the first place, which is not really the case. And re: your comment on them being big in NYC before Pitchfork -- I just don't really buy it. I do live here, go to shows, read blogs, and I had never heard of them.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 8:58 AM

guys seriously this has got to be one of the least known venues in NYC, I mean the place was half empty for vampire weekend last year, and at that time that band was already written about here and by L mag, new yorker etc. just saying...

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:08 AM

the people who run the East River amphitheater shows are kind of out of the loop and unfortunately pretty inept at promotion.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:24 AM

A lot of shows all over town were pretty empty over the this last weekend. Titus Andronicus in particular played three times in two days and I don't think any of the three were crowded.

it was rainy and hot and humid and it's also historically one of those weekends where half the city just picks up and goes upstate or out to Long Island or somewhere else to get out.

That and the fact that there were so many free and outdoor options this weekend managed to make none of them very successful.

it's not a reflection on Titus Andronicus, APTBS, the Hold Steady, the East River amphitheater people, JellyNYC, R2R, or anybody else. It was just a tough weekend to put on a show in New York City.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:34 AM

I didn't know any of the bands, but that show ruled! everyone looked satisfied to me! The BBQ was choice...yumm...

Posted by I heart bbq | June 30, 2008 9:39 AM

9:24 - yes, seems like there's some promotion problem there... which is a shame, since the east river amphitheater is one of the nicest places in manhattan to have an outdoors concert. great atmosphere, nice view, great for standing and dancing, great for sitting... but it's always 80% empty!

btw, that vampire weekend show everyone mentions was remarkable for two reasons having nothing to do with VW: (1) meg baird, (2) jonathan kane's february. what a pair of class acts.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:41 AM

THE BBQ WAS TOO LOUD! LOL!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:43 AM

HATERS! that Vampire Weekend show was packed! I was there! and it was packed all the way thru Obits, then it rained hard and we had to go. who are you people, you bastard people!

Posted by Bill Hater | June 30, 2008 9:50 AM

Obits rocked my balls off! Go Rick!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 9:58 AM

read more carefully, we're talking about Vampire Weekend LAST YEAR.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:04 AM

anyone who says blood city were amazing weren't there because they were horrible and forgettable and not worth mentioning.

ive seen obits better in the past but they were the only talented band that played that stage that day.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 10:34 AM

well, i was there. i was one of the maybe ten people there. and i thought the show was a total waste of time.

that said, is the bandshell public space when it's not being used for an organized event?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 11:01 AM

Anon 11:01 AM: To the latter point: Yes, it is.

Posted by Toby/ERMP | June 30, 2008 11:08 AM

yeh! I really hate Blood City too! I HATE THEM!!! HATE!!!!! There were like, 10 people there in the pouring rain, and they were out of tune, and ugly, and throwing beers at fat pregnant girls! They went on hours later than they were supposed to, and the singer hates hippies. It made me so mad! I HATE YOU BLOOD CITY! hahaha this is fun...now back to reality.

Posted by Jealous Piggie | June 30, 2008 12:23 PM

BLOOD CITY HATES HIPPIES! BLOOD CITY HATES HIPPIES! BOYCOTT BLOOD CITY, CAUSE THEY HATE HIPPIES!

PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL BUT BLOOD CITY! LOL!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 12:31 PM

Ken from Blood City here! I wanna thank all that came out to watch us! We love you! The show ruled!!! And for those who don't like us, well, like Brock Landers said- Jealousy will get you nowhere, and I'm gonna keep on rockin!

yit yit, yo ho! I'm out!

Posted by Ken Edge | June 30, 2008 12:41 PM

"It's jealousy. It's deceitfulness. It's vindictiveness. It's all of that stuff, ya know? But I mean ... God, what can you expect when you're on top? It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, people were just constantly trying to conquer him in the Roman empire, so it's history repeating itself all over again."

Posted by Steve | June 30, 2008 12:51 PM

Blood City are rich kids from L.A.! Ken is related to U2's guitarist, Steve's cousin owns Casablanca records, Wittman is a writer for pitchfork, Lee was the adopted kid on the Growing Pains tv show!! It's all a scam! But god, they can SURE AS HELL ROCK YOUR FACE OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:00 PM

horray for a bunch of bands nobody will remember in a month.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:01 PM

I was there and the whole show was really empty. I wouldn't have even know there was a show going on if I wasn't following Titus' show schedules. I've seen them play shows that were packed, you can't always play a show to a 100+ people. Outdoor venues suck anyway. The show later that night at the Bodega was much better, even though that wasn't that packed either. Meh.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2008 1:08 PM

fun fun fun show...the stage was sufficiently molested by all performers... then we had a nice little pow wow under the amphitheater during the downpour. big ups to the ERMP kids. they rule.

(fyi... i've never said "yit, yit, yo ho" my whole life...)

uhhh which one of these bands is "on top" exactly? the one in the above picture? yeah, they've clearly hit the ceiling. backlash time!
