Burial

And this year's nominees are:

Adele - 19
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Burial - Untrue
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Estelle - Shine
Laura Marling - Alas, I Cannot Swim
Neon Neon - Stainless Style
Portico Quartet - Knee Deep In The North Sea
Rachel Unthank - The Bairns
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement
Which album "album from the United Kingdom or Ireland" did they miss this year? Last year the award went to Klaxons and the year before that it went to Arctic Monkeys who were also nominated last year which makes Alex Turner 3 for 3.

Laura Marling was just here in NYC last month. Estelle played a show in Brooklyn last night. Pulp won in 1996. Jarvis Cocker also played a show in Brooklyn last night. Maybe Adele was there.

Will Burial win it this year? Roni Size won in 1997. He beat Ok Computer that year. In fact, Radiohead has never won. This year is the fourth time they're nominated. Maybe they'll finally give it to them.

I mean how the hell haven't they (radiohead) won yet? Ok Computer should have for sure.

radiohead or burial, definitely.

...and are they seriously putting the last shadow puppets up there? i mean, they're alright/catchy, but they pale in comparison to every other album in that group.

burial is unlistenable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 12:34 PM

Neon Neon? Seriously?

Posted by JIM JOE | July 22, 2008 12:35 PM

No, (new) Portishead is unlistenable. Burial is purest brilliance.

Believe me, both the Portishead and Burial are indeed very very listenable.

burial is banksy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 12:54 PM

they should just give it to burial...the only good cd on that list.

Believe you? Yeah, you have an honest face. And now the new Portishead record sounds great!

Posted by Ensign Milkshake | July 22, 2008 12:55 PM

that would be sweet if burial was in fact banksy

Finally, Do You Like Rock Music gets some well deserved recognition.

I like Burial, but calling it the only good CD on this list is just being clueless.

Love that Burial cd. For those who have dismissed it, give it another listen. The cd is def'ly a grower.

Radiohead will probably win it this year.

Portishead should have been nominated.

Burial is Rocky Napoli. Duh.

BURIAL!

Radiohead should finally win, but I'd say it's even odds with Burial. Portishead should absolutely be on the list; hard for them to justify shutting out a great album from a former winner. And c'mon- at least Duffy's cuter than Adele.

Portishead should be on the list indeed. Wonderful album.

I for one did like the Adele album besides one or 2 tracks. Wonderful voice.
