Band Members: nickel eye (guitar, vocals, electric bass, double bass, harmonica); South: Joel Cadbury (steel guitar), Jamie McDonald (guitar), Brett Shaw (drums) and very special guests: Regina Spektor (piano), Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (guitar), Jack Dishel of Only Son (back up vocals), Jesse Wallace (drums) + more...Get it? Nickel Eye. Nikolai.About nickel eye: Soon to be released The Time of the Assassins... For the moment, you can visit Mark Ronson's most recent radio broadcast (06/06/08) of "Authentic Shit" at www.eastvillageradio.com. At 1hr and 19mins, you will find a sneak preview of two songs and an interview with nickel eye.
Regina Spektor is also working with Ben Folds and playing a show with another Stroke, Albert Hammond Jr., who has some new music out of his own.
And while Albert and Nickel Eye are busy doing their thing, Julian has been wearing Converse and hanging with Pharrell (soon to be a daddy?) and Santogold. I don't know what's up with The Strokes, but if there is something up, Pharrell also wants to be involved.
And while Nick Zinner has been keeping busy with Nickel Eye, Karen O has been also doing her Native Korean Rock thing which included two shows the other night at Union Pool and some demos on MySpace. Yeah.
Download a whole bunch of MP3s above. The Karen O live tracks were ripped from two of the three YouTube videos you can watch below...

haha. which, in turn, are rip-offs of other people's work (ahem, heartbreakers and television to name but a couple)

I'm loving the Native Korean Rock stuff. Sounds a little Mazzy Star.

stop the hateration- the new albert hammond album is wonderful- and yall aint. lets just hope the strokes skip all the collaboration bullshit and do their thing on their own- as usual.

i agree that BVers are sipping on the haterade gratuitously, but the strokes SHOULD collaborate again. their first album was revolutionary and while their second album was sub-part, FIoE was a great, great LP, even if it didn't please the hipster majority.

nikolai is such a wack attack. i only car about the good looking strokes members. which means i don't care about nikolai or albert. and these days i'm only half caring about julian.

that "OOO" song is amazing. sounds like Pavement's "Here" or something. I hope somebody taped the whole show.

Those Nickle Eye Songs sound pretty great.
I'm excited. But then I'm a fan of all three Strokes albums. (Room on Fire has been ignored for far too long, maybe in 20 years it'll have a comeback)
That first song does sound quite a bit like Only Son/Stiplicon
I wonder how much input Jack Dishal had.

What's with all the room on fire hatin'. That album has some really good shit on it. It's not as consistant as is this it but come on it's a better album than all these shitty flavor of the week indie rock bands put out that bullshit albums you hipsters will forget about in two months.

thank god! some people with common sense! who know what music is! its not those bullshit v-neck sweater wearing, studio b playing, no-permit concert-going, non contributing, conformist bullshiting bullshiters. keep on repping the strokes- all of their albums were at the very least decent with their debut LP obviously being completely ground breaking- plus their all hot especially fab and albert and nick and nikolai

I especially like Brandy of the Damned

room on fire is their best album...even though they don't seem to think so. here's to whatever side projects they decide to do. look at wolf parade and animal collective---all of theirs sound similar, but good. sometimes keeping the SAME sound isn't such a bad thing.

It's funny how if you like a band then you say they're "influenced" by someone. It's only when you don't like a band that they've ripped someone else off. The Strokes sound nothing like Television. Maybe you should get your own opinions instead of repeating what a bunch of lazy journalists who stole from another journalist said. If you wanted to say they ripped off Tom Petty at least you'd be right.
I didn't like what I'd heard of Nikolai's stuff online, but I saw him at Pianos and it was really good live.
