TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE BAND
GO BACK TO YOUR DAY/NIGHT JOBS AS BARTENDERS IN HIPSTER-VILLE
Posted by joe | July 2, 2008 5:08 PM
ugh this band is so awful....flash in the pan if I've ever seen one...why do they have a drummer? isn't it all electro-sounding shit?
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 5:11 PM
The Residents @ Grammercy Theater. Oct 9 & 10. Tix on sale now.
Posted by Andy | July 2, 2008 5:14 PM
Saw thes guys at the Bowery not long ago. A bit too distortion-heavy at times, but they do have some decent songs. "Ocean" has great drumming too.

i think these dudes are sick. it's not particularly original, but it's fuckin slimy and fun and they play sludgefeast guitars and that's all i want.
take your computer rock to hell, gimme more loudness.
Posted by henry mccool | July 2, 2008 5:34 PM
5:11 et al... You are wrong. This band's drummer is essential to them. They are actually quite an interesting, really loud band. They have some pretty good songs. They're not gonna change the world, but they sure as hell are better than a lot of the crap out there.

any idea about the "special guests"?
i would really really really love it if it was BSS
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 5:50 PM
great band. Not hipster at all.... good shoegaze churn can't be hipster you bedford ave tightees.
Posted by sloth | July 2, 2008 5:53 PM
There's no way the great BSS would share a bill with these Joy Division-loving poseurs.

The Cure+My Bloody Valentine=Pure awesomeness
Hardly seems a formula for a flash in the pan.
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 6:29 PM
I think they're good players, and I enjoyed them live. they are way better than most of the newer bands featured on here and are by no means "terrible." please, check yourselves. they're not "electro."
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 6:33 PM
i like 'em! you can go listen to the fuck you tour and be happy. i'll take these guys any day of the week. ps...i just typed that has hard as i could on my macbook.
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 6:37 PM
why is their live sound so different than the cd? and worse in my opinion.
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 7:22 PM
this band is incredible. one of the most important bands to come around in very long time. i saw them twice more bowery and williamsburg music hall and they blew everyone away.
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 9:39 PM
They are really good. Live and on record. I would say that guests = Times New Viking, just because the pair makes sense to have them on the same bill, I think.
Posted by Eduardo | July 2, 2008 10:05 PM
electro? since when is shoegaze electro? just because its an electric guitar thru a bunch of pedals? its good that this seemingly forgotten about genre is coming back a little, i like it

you guys are such haters. i'm not even from ny but you guys should support your fucking scene. it's disgusting how all you commenters always try to bring bands down once they start getting buzz. if you don't like the band then don't read the post or listen to them. these are human beings who are trying to make a living playing music so think about how selfish it is for you to try to destroy their career b/c you don't enjoy their music. don't like it...don't listen. but don't try to impose your beliefs and bully people who do.
Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2008 11:35 PM
it really seems like the majority of BV comments are overly caustic. everytime BV posts about some new brooklyn band people are so quick to shit all over them. it's pretty pathetic considering this is your local scene. instead of whining about how the scene is supposedly "over" you should help support the up and coming bands to help the scene will grow.
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 12:43 AM
edit: to help the scene grow.

You left out August 17th in Austin, TX @ Emo's.

11:35---stop trying to impose your beliefs on other people.

"GO BACK TO YOUR DAY/NIGHT JOBS AS BARTENDERS IN HIPSTER-VILLE"
WTF does that even mean?
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 8:34 AM
aptbs is great.
whatever, die.
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 8:38 AM
Oliver's "day/night job" is building guitar pedals for tons of bands, some you've heard of, some you will hear of.
and they're a laid-back, approachable bunch of dudes, too.

i saw APTBS at cake shop last year (i think, maybe it was earlier than that). i, personally, thought they were amazing! but i can definitely see where they may not be for everybody.
Posted by janelle | July 3, 2008 10:15 AM
you left out the Brainwaves Festival - http://brainwavesfestival.org
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 10:32 AM
You people shitting on these bands trip me out. Where are you posting from? Your practice space or the studio where you're honing the sound of your own band that will put all the rest to shame? Or are you doing so at your local coffee shop, or your fucking bedroom, skipping out on your "day job" and just generally being snarky, boorish and miserable? Because you sure sound it. If it's not for you, fine, but hey, they're trying to make it happen and they're not doing so by writing bubblegum pop.
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 10:34 AM
I like them and they're nice guys...give them a break
Posted by Lindsay | July 3, 2008 11:49 AM
fuck daft punk.

Hey Everyone,
I am a member of one of a Williamsburg Brooklyn band who has been in existence for close to 3 years now and despite the fact that we make good music and get decent reviews in smaller blogs, we have not blown up. None of the big blogs write about us.
I know it gets frustrating for all of musicians out there trying to get heard and for whatever reason we dont get any exposure and still struggle to bring a draw to shows. I know that sometimes it gets annoying to read about "blog bands" who for whatever reason: 1. they play catchy music, 2. they are friends with bloggers, 3. they are friends with other more popular bands and jump on their friend's success", or 4. they are genuinely good, get more and quicker exposure than you are getting. But you know what, thats the business and you should stop your whining. NYC is just a microcosm of how the industry works and if you are choosing the path to make a living out of music, be prepared for the long haul.
Just because these bands are getting hyped in blogs yesterday, today, and possibly tommorrow, does not mean anything about their longevity. So, let them get their turn and stop trying to bring them down. Dont get all engulfed in the "hypeness" the real test of a good band is if in 3-5 years they will still be around. Not that they were on Brooklyn Vegan blog or Pitchfork Media.
NYC is saturated now with bands, not all of us are going to get our big chance in the spotlight. But dont steal other band's spotlight just because you are not getting it.
Lastly, to the readers of Brooklyn Vegan who only pay attention to bands that are blogged about, do us all struggling musicians a favor and support the scene. Dont support the scene that "bloggers" create. There is a much larger music scene in NYC than bloggers write about. Read smaller NYC music blogs like the Deli Magazine that cover less unknown band and shows (and by the way, I am not a staff writer for the Deli Magazine, so keep your wise comments to yourself).
Lastly, APTS are really cool guys, they have been around for a while and give back to the music scene here in Brooklyn. If you dont like their music, then move on to something else. Who are you to justify whether they are worthy or not. Lets get something straight, not every band in the world is going to appeal to you. And for every band that doesnt appeal to you, you dont have to go and spew your negativity all over them and everyone and everything.
-Now bring on the hatemail-
Yours Truly,
Struggling Williamsburg Non-Hipster Band

TL;DR
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 12:16 PM
Struggling Williamsburg Non-Hipster Band is a somewhat decent band name....but i've never heard of you guys--have you ever been on brooklynvegan or pitchfork?
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 12:34 PM
Ha, ha.
Well thats not our name. You may have heard of us or you may have not. But I'd rather not disclose, because Im not writing this to get exposure for my band.
Maybe you'll hear of us in the future. If we a blog every cares to pay attention.

Hey 12:11,
Your band sucks. (I read about it on the Deli Mag blog).
Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 3:12 PM
Yo! Apes and Androids are a great band to see. If you haven't seen them yet go check it out. Not only do they put on a great show they have the music chops to back it up with.
APTBS are a good heavy band and they make awesome guitar pedals (DBA pedals).
Don't hate it before you see it... All is good all is love...
