wheak

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 6:38 PM

Thank God none of these acts are like White Williams, Dan Deacon or Ponytail.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 6:40 PM

Langhorne Slim is amazing live. He will kill it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 6:44 PM

Fuck yeah Human Soup! -_o

Posted by Waffle | July 22, 2008 7:47 PM

ah felice bros AND deer tick! now that's a bill!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 9:36 PM

Langhorne is an incredible showman. The same can definitely be said in an over the top way about Eli too. This show is going to be fun to watch. Never seen Deer Tick.

MGMT bitches!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 10:39 PM

The pool needs more non-indie rock shows. Aesop Rock doesn't count. I can understand the community wanting the end the concerts when they only cater to a sub-section of the population. The soul show last year was good, and it was a start. Please, more non-Pitchfork-approved shows!

"The soul show last year was good, and it was a start. Please, more non-Pitchfork-approved shows"

There was a soul show this year too.

Eli Paperboy Reed was one of the best shows I saw this year. Quit yer bellyaching and go see this great band.

this sunday is going to be a nightmare. i can see it now. they;re gonna run out of water one act in, people will be dropping like flies, half the lot won't get in, etc etc etc. i am as wary of this show as i was of that fucking vampire weekend one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 12:09 AM

im looking forward for the felice brothers

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 12:39 AM

that new one's the first one I actually want to see! felice bros, deer tick, and langhorne slim!

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 7:56 AM

The Felice Brothers are so much fun live, they'll definitely get the pool moving.

RSVP + 1.

Seriously, whats with the pool parties website and how people respond on a mesage board with RSVPs to every show? that's not legit right? Last year they had that strange rsvp system but I thought that was all abandoned. Plus, RSVPing via a message board makes no sense and would be an organizational nightmare for the event organizers.

" whats with the pool parties website and how people respond on a mesage board with RSVPs to every show? that's not legit right? that's not legit right? "

No it's not. NO RSVPs are necessary. Just typical JellyNYC scamming.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 9:36 AM

yeah the rsvp thing is useless. completely. they don't check ID unless you want to buy alcohol. they have no lists at the show. it's whoever gets there first, gets in.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 10:05 AM

Pool Parties are free shows. The shows are first come first serve. There are no RSVP's this year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 10:20 AM

awesome! that means there are 1124 idiots RSVPing for this sunday's mccarren show including this guy:

istuffmypants "RSVP for 2, thank you."

What kind of ID do you show at the door istuffmypants?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 10:34 AM

"No it's not. NO RSVPs are necessary. Just typical JellyNYC scamming"

yes. scamming you into going to free shows.

poor, poor thing.

I just read his impressive press quotes and dug his tunes on his MySpace. One question, where has this Eli guy been? Must see.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 11:06 AM

regarding the non-indie show request(s), i'm not sure. i mean, jelly NYC is run by a young, indie-inclined demographic. they seem to be putting on shows for the same young, indie-inclined demographic. like the young, indie-inclined demographic that is one of the large demographics in the neighborhood. it makes perfect sense, to me anyways.

i'm sure another group interested in organizing other shows at the pool could, if they wanted to, but that doesn't necessarily make it jelly NYC's task. perhaps eventually it will become more of a mix a la the prospect park shows. in the meantime, i wouldn't complain about the show lineup unless you plan to get involved in planning yourself. don't like the lineup, just don't go. simple!

Posted by w'burger | July 23, 2008 11:20 AM

Everyone needs to just go see Felice Brothers and Langhorne Slim. I mean, c'mon, those two great acts on the same bill at the Pool? Let the drinking and good times begin.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 11:24 AM

celebrate brooklyn does different genre shows, jazz, rnb, oldies, so they got that covered. the shows at clinton castle (castle clinton?) span a few broad genres too. so it's not a niche nycjelly necessarily needs to fill.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 12:18 PM

"Let the drinking and good times begin."

-signed Brooklyn Brewery. That will be $6.00 please.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 12:25 PM

Awesome to see Langhorne Slim up there. He'll be great.

also, as for diversifying the mccarren lineup...no, bad idea. go to celebrate BK, as previous poster noted. then you can get all the "living legends" middle-aged music you want.

Eli Reed is absolutely electrifying. What a howl that kid's got. I understand if the whole Jewy-looking soul boy thing seems cringeworthy from the outside, but this shit is so authentic it makes me want to cum rainbows.

No hyperbole.

Posted by Anonymouse | July 23, 2008 4:48 PM

Why don't they ever get good bands to play the pool?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 5:11 PM

I'm glad this is the last year of this shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2008 5:13 PM

eli is a talented kid BUT he needs a visit from queer eye from the straight guy. poor thing entirely lacks style. he ought to either completely bake the retro look full out or defy stereotypes. as is when he steps on stage he looks like he's just stepped out of an office cubicle. and this takes away from his performance.

deer tick is AWESOME.
