Beth Orton @ Prospect Park (Celebrate Brooklyn), NYC - pics
photos by Kyle Dean Reinford

Beth Orton played a, to quote Kyle, "phenomenal", lively, and FREE outdoor show at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn last night (July 12, 2008). With a great sense of humor, and one very multi-talented musician by her side (he played guitar, mandolin, violin and piano), Beth performed a mix of songs that included almost all of her last album Comfort of Strangers - acoustic. "Two Dishes But To One Table" adds,
"Every song was radically unplugged and re-sung. Even when Beth Orton got to a standard like 'Stolen Car' my recognition dawned gradually. Coming from me, a casual fan, I think we all felt an I-got-my-money's-worth sensation, what with the intimate between song patter, the special song renditions, and the frequent switching of instruments.More pictures below...

oh the agony...looking at that crowd shot...all the self righteous soccer parents (b/c that's all they really are in that part of the world...as much as they see them selves as hip) hanging out watching a watered down cat power. the community production of hello dolly at a park in jersy would have been more fun.

yikes, can't believe I used to think Beth Orton was attractive. This just backs up my newfound conclusion that English women all turn into bulldogs after some time. all men should stay away from them. Beth is included. British women do not grow old gracefully.

yes, moms. Big deal. get over yourself.
"yikes, can't believe I used to think Beth Orton was attractive."
stop being so judgemental

this was one of the best shows i have seen in a long time.

'billy burg and english maid' are total shallow idiots. all you can talk about is how uncool and unattractive people are?
i guess you don't really like music, then? it's all about the surface with you two losers.
and no, i didn't go to the show. but beth orton is definitely a very talented and well-respected musician.

Beth Orton was incredible last night. I can't say I've seen a show so breathtaking in quite some time.

@11:50 am - You actually listened to and enjoyed the music at a concert? You didn't spend all your time analyzing and dissecting the general appearance of the artist or the audience?
Good for you.

billy burg -- your only hope is to kill yourself now, lest you become what you so readily criticize.
Do it.

British women don't grow old gracefully? What?
Here's a few names for ya: Helen Mirren, Charlotte Rampling, Jacqueline Bisset, Julie Christie, Vanessa Redgrave, Miranda Richardson, etc. etc.
If anything, British women age exceptionally well.

Let's not forget the great (and sexy) Dame Judi Dench!

i didn't stay for the encore. what songs did she play?
was it just me or did the opening act play too long for being relatively unknown?
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 2:40 PM
for the encore she just played "stolen car." the opening act did play way too long. i think he felt like he had the right to since it was in his backyard. also, the story about the candy store guy getting shot in the back alley was tasteless and uncalled for.

Broads rocking some serious arm hair in that first picture.

oh please, English women age like bulldogs. severe crows feet and wrinkles! everything on their bodies starts to sag after age 30! gross! English women have a reputation for NOT being attractive relative to women from the rest of the world. this is a known fact.

doesn't beth orton have, like, chrohn's disease or something? cut the lady some slack, yo.

I'm a big Beth Orton fan but without any electronics, she kinda bores me. Last night show was ok at best. The openers played way too long which seems to happen a lot this summer at Summerstage & Prospect Park. As for her looks, she looks pretty much the same as always, just a little older. Give her a break.

without any electronics she bores you? i found the stripped down songs to be absolutely captivating. she is such a phenomenal songwriter and hearing those songs sung in such a personal manor was a treat. i'd take that any day over electronics.

In case anyone cares, the "multi-talented musician" playing with Orton was Rob Moose (Antony and the Johnsons, The National, Sufjan Stevens, etc). He's a phenomenal musician and perfect foil for Orton. I was at the Boston show and she was visibly overjoyed to be playing with someone who was so sympatico.

Thanks! I couldn't remember his name. He really blew me away - such a talented guy. Glad to know the company he's been keeping.

All of these comments and no mention of her denim unitard?

Little Douchbags... your small minds astound me. I do not have kids or play soccer.
Even at 33 I feel that most of you are so timid (well maybe not timid but green for sure) and unknowing of what real life is.
Of cousre at some point in your lives the thin veil is pushed back and you are forced to answer the question ... "am I going to refuse what is real or appreciate life for what it actually is?"
Some of you will struggle most definitely.
S'ok little Douchies. A little hair on your chest (or arms) won't kill you. Just don't kill yourself with the realization that you are like everyone else ;)
Fuck you, by the way. I'm actually cooler that you.

I don't care about her looks, but its her voice I cannot stand! Dull as dishwater!

sorry to be late to this party, but seems odd that a person who has a user name "billy burg" gets to throw stones. that just screams so cool. i live in billburg and need to let the world know how cool i am and nobody can disagree with me because i live at the center of hipsterdome. please...that place is just as bad as the lower east side. trust fund babies who refuse to shower and live off of mom and dad. that is what has become of williamsburg in the past five years. freak show gone bad
