Bon Iver

Musical ecstasy is the only way I can desribe Bon Iver's show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn last night (and not just because I drank too many Yahtzees). New song = amazing. Amazing = an overused word, but it works. Bon Iver's next NYC show will be headlining Town Hall in December! Details TBA soon. More pictures from the Brooklyn show (July 30, 2008) below...

I can't handle your excitement BV, I CAN'T HANDLE IT. I can only handle your subtle mocking of Bright Eyes and occasional Funny Headline. TOO MUCH EMOTION.

after the 17 minute corporate intro to the wnyc podcast it's actually worth listening to.

@ 3:07 - See him play live. Then you'll understand.

Bowerbirds were a perfect opener, and a damn fine band in their own right.

All in all, amazing night.

was at the bowery show.

the band is incredibly tight and they jam out and shit.

don't know about MHOW, but at bowery the crowd was almost entirely respectful and quiet.

before playing, justin vernon pointed out that one of his guitar players was wearing an Iowa t-shirt and to "think about what that means." So, surprise, he is an Obama fan.

justin also said that the bowery was the best venue in the country.

325 agreed. the album doesnt do it justice. when i saw at mercury last summer i was floored...and then after the set i picked up the prerelease(?) and brought it home right away n threw it in the player...very disappointed.

when they released the album, they didnt change anything and left that sorta rawness in the album.

live is polished and intense. very solid

was there another band before bowerbirds...maybe a local or was it just birds & iver?

Posted by poopdick | July 31, 2008 3:50 PM

can someone explain the yahtzee references? I was at the show and I concur, a very special evening.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 3:50 PM

if you were at the show, you shouldn't need the yahtzee jokes explained.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 3:53 PM

What's a yahtzee?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 4:01 PM

bushmills and redbull.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 4:08 PM

how do you pronounce Bon Iver? because in my mind i keep pronouncing it like 'Good Winter' in french, Bon Hiver. but is it Bon eye-ver? I don't want to seem like a loser when i say it out loud.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 4:18 PM

goddam that shit was good the past two night. i could watch that show every night.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 4:30 PM

Any pics from the bowery show?
What an AMAZING performance.

I kindof wanna know what this girl who broke his heart did to him, to promp him to write such AMAZING music. or maybe, i don't wanna know.

Posted by Paola | July 31, 2008 4:33 PM

its exactly like french "good winter". The reference is intentional. BAWN EE-VAY-ER

more boring neo-folk shit. have fun falling asleep at this one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 4:42 PM

Bowerbirds were amazing too. It was insane to see Bon Iver pack the MHoW after being unheard of this time last year.

Watering down Bushmills with Red Bull seems like a sin.

"bone me there"

one of best albums of year. amazing performance. even for those who aren't into the soft, acoustic singer-songwriter stuff, i would recommend seeing this show in the future.

besides the screeching banshee girl with Tourette's in the front left area, the crowd was pretty respectful. no one brought any massive purses or murses to annoy everyone around them, and surprisingly, for a williamsburg venue, there weren't that many dudes with massive fros blocking the view of others.

speaking of that, by the way, if you have a fro, please have the courtesy to gel it down before going to a concert. it's just respectful to those behind you.

thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 5:28 PM

great show but the space gallery show in portland was more amazing. bowerbirds and bon iver duet unplugged in the audience.

Posted by trev | July 31, 2008 5:33 PM

i know this sounds kind of gay and all, but his music touches my heart.

"i know this sounds kind of gay and all, but his music touches my heart. "

that is so cute.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:16 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:22 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:55 AM

New pants! That's such a great shot.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 6:17 AM

Is the bassist rocking a Ripper? If so, nice Ripper, sir.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 7:04 AM

overrated, he's not that good.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:01 AM

absolutely stunning in all the ways i had hoped it would be. I had seen him before but tuesday night at bowery was an entirely different experience and the crowd was so respectful and engaged. it was heart-wrenching and haunting. just an incredibly beautiful show. visiting daytrotter for his studio session is a good way to hold you over until december.

Posted by sheryl | August 1, 2008 12:30 PM

his voice isnt that great live, but he makes up for it with passion and commitment

I visited a lot of website but I believe this one holds something special in it. "Patience, n. A minor form of dispair, disguised as a virtue." by Ambrose Bierce.Sweet, btw I recommend to check out http://goo.gl/7sivX - inspirational stories
