77Boadrum in Brooklyn - 7/7/07 (more)
Boredoms 77 drums

...Japanese psych-noise-crazy-genius-types Boredoms will once again bring the clattering of oh-so-many drums to the States this summer, in a bi-coastal sequel to last year's wildly successful 77BoaDrum event. This time out, they're calling it 88BoaDrum, and performances of the brand new 88-minute composition from Boredoms leader Eye will take place August 8 (8/8/08, you see) in both Los Angeles and Brooklyn, New York.

The Los Angeles event will take place beginning at 8:08 PM PST at the city's famed La Brea Tar Pits, and will feature 88 drummers selected by both the Boredoms and 88Boadrum artistic director Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle. The New York event, conducted on behalf of the Boredoms by Brooklyn's own Gang Gang Dance, goes down at 8:08 PM EST at the Williamsburg waterfront.

Both BoaDrums will be free and open to the public, but tickets will be required for entry. They'll be available starting Friday, July 18 at brownpapertickets.com, at L.A.'s Amoeba Records and the L.A. County Museum of Art, or at New York's Other Music and Sound Fix Records. Only one ticket will be available per person.

88BoaDrum is presented by Nike Sportswear, who will bring you the commemorative "88Boadrum NSW Tee collection". Attendees will be able to purchase t-shirts, featuring designs by Eye, that will be hand-screened at the events... [Pitchfork]

This has been rumored since last year, and as many have pointed out, is during All Points West. it's also the first day the 2008 Summer Olympics, Iggy Pop @ Terminal 5 and Hercules & Love Affair at Irving Plaza.

yes yes ya'll! this shit was great last year (i know, people who got there late somehow feel cheated that thousands of people got there before them and they didn't make it in). and fyi, they will give out more tix than capacity. so even if you have a tix get there early or shut it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:09 PM

well, thank goodness they made it a ticketed event this time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:09 PM

this bullshit again! Santos Party House anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:13 PM

this post is going to stir a lot of painful memories

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:14 PM

why painful memories?

Posted by anon | July 16, 2008 12:18 PM

i'm just wondering how this is going to work in regards to the boredoms members. will they be split between the two events? will they even be playing?

Posted by jason | July 16, 2008 12:19 PM

This is a different location to last year. Anyone know exactly where it's going to be?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:20 PM

"...goes down at 8:08 PM EST at the Williamsburg waterfront."

So, 9:08 PM EDT?

Make sure you read this carefully

"The New York event, conducted on behalf of the Boredoms by Brooklyn's own Gang Gang Dance"

The Boredoms will be at the LA event and NOT at the NYC one. Which means this is a waste of time. This also means that this will never come close to the majesty of the one last summer so the whiners who did not get in last year can start whining again now.
I will start off the proceedings with last years show was fucking incredible. I got there and the line was like 10 blocks long and i simply walked up to the front of the line before it went into the barricades and I cut in. Got in 5 mins later. Really a once in a lifetime event.

You just know that AMNBA was really at home that night jerking himself off and crying into a cup of milk.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:31 PM

SUNN O))) rules!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:38 PM

is AMNBA the same asshole who cut the line sunday for Pool party right in back of me and in front of some yapping girls??

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:42 PM

BTW I do agree the corporate sponsorship is somewhat puzzling.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 12:44 PM

people who cut lines should be executed.

Posted by butternuts | July 16, 2008 12:45 PM

more franchising, keepin' it real!

"You just know that AMNBA was really at home that night jerking himself off and crying into a cup of milk."

You wish, bitch. I am sorry you did not get in though hahaha.

"is AMNBA the same asshole who cut the line sunday for Pool party right in back of me and in front of some yapping girls??"

Nope, was not there on Sunday but good for the person who cut in front of you. Were you one of the whiners on here who did not get in?

"people who cut lines should be executed.

Again, don't hate the player, hate the game and get some skills.

Idioteque live <3 amazing

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | July 16, 2008 1:03 PM

dont know about you losers but I'll be seeing Radiohead at Santos Party House where they will be playing a special show after APW.
good luck getting into that AMNBA

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 1:08 PM

seriously... please stop feeding material to A blah blah not brooklyn moron.

this guy is a complete joke...

unless somebody wants to post a picture of him so we can all kick him in the teeth next time we see him... just ignore the fuck.

Posted by wembley | July 16, 2008 1:12 PM

the Williamsburg waterfront? they don't mean Grand Ferry Park, which is STILL SHUT DOWN

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 1:15 PM

12:44:

nike was a sponsor for last years event, they just didnt have their name plastered all over it like they do this year. try putting on a free show in a huge public space with tons of people and rented equipment. all the river to river shows are heavily sponsored by big corporations like American Express.

Posted by jason | July 16, 2008 1:16 PM

Anon delusional 1:08 ok you have fun at that Radiohead Santos show. Let us all know how it was.

Aww wembley, you still smarting from being dismissed by me in the thread from a few days ago. What a bitter bitch. Dude get over it. It is a music blog. Your pathetic life will go on. I am honored though that i have had this effect on you.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 1:21 PM

did I get dissed? I must have missed that one. send me the link... I'd like a good laugh.

Posted by wembley | July 16, 2008 1:26 PM

There is no doubt in my mind that AMNBA is a Vampire Weekend fan.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 1:26 PM

no that guy cut in back of me not in front of me, the girls in back of me were too busy yapping on their cellphones and or too intimidated by the asshole to make a comment. we still got in though, only thing is the guy who cut in line saved himself about 45 minutes of wait time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 2:23 PM

Nah thats ok, Your mother seems to have exclusive rights to that job.

"too bad the actual band will not be here. why would you even go without eye?

Exactly what i said earlier.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 2:33 PM

I will watch the olympic games with that cop, do the 888, and then go watch radiohead

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 2:41 PM

drum circle hippies! crash worship, that's how you do it.

Posted by un:art:ig | July 16, 2008 2:42 PM

Charlatans playing Bowery!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 2:44 PM

really psyched about the charlatans. do you think that one will sell out instantly?

what's the last venue they played in nyc? are they still pretty huge? my gauge for the popularity of british pop bands isn't what it used to be.

Posted by wembley | July 16, 2008 2:49 PM

Will the band even be at either event? Sounds like they are picking the participants, but are not participating themselves.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 2:55 PM

Holy shit un.art.ig! One Crash Worship mention and you just redeemed this entire peanut gallery. Good work man.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 2:56 PM

Anyone on here old enough to remember that "psychedelic juice" members of Crash Worship used to pour into audience member's mouths? I'm sure it was just wine but because of the intense music, excitement of the moment and the placebo effect caused by the rumour that there was drugs in the juice, people would go APESHIT after they drank that stuff!

Posted by blackhat | July 16, 2008 3:08 PM

crash worship aka best time(s) ever had. I still hate myself for having slept through Pulp Fiction while they most likely destroyed Wetlands together with Neurosis back in 95.

Posted by un:art:ig | July 16, 2008 3:13 PM

Charlatans last played the Webster Hall, it was an okay gig but their show at Irving Plaza with Starsailor opening for them was unforgettable.
I figure this is going to sell fast, it is a smal venue and everyone likes Bowery, specially those hispters

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 3:14 PM

I saw Charlatans at Webster Hall. I pushed my way to the front and heckled them the entire time.

People talked shit about me during the show, but I just kept thanking them for giving me tributes.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 3:19 PM

Hahahaha more more 3:19pm. I fucking own you hahahaha. The rage you feel towards me is duly noted. You are seething.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 3:31 PM

^^^^^^^^^ wait are you talking about yourself? lame and weird.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 3:47 PM

Just to clarify, Boredoms will be present and leading the event in LA, with Gang Gang Dance at the helm in Brooklyn.

Posted by anonymous | July 16, 2008 3:50 PM

one of the drummers from 77 boadrum (dreiky) was in crash worship.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 3:52 PM

"^^^^^^^^^ wait are you talking about yourself? lame and weird.

Posted by Anonymous"

Oh was that the game being played with the posts claiming to be from me. So now you can say you are talking about yourself? Very imaginative.

"Just to clarify, Boredoms will be present and leading the event in LA, with Gang Gang Dance at the helm in Brooklyn."

Yes and to clarify even more. The NYC event is worthless.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 3:53 PM

This won't go down well, but I find that Gang Gang Dance are a better/more interesting band than the Boredoms. So I'm really looking forward to this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 4:01 PM

A 3:52
your point couldn't possibly be that last years 77boadrum was thereby 1/77th the quality of a CW show, now couldn't it?! I'd have to disagree as there were a bunch of other sweet peeps banging on cans too. so it was probably something like 4 or 5/77. ;-)

Posted by un:art:ig | July 16, 2008 4:19 PM

Why don't they do a 808BoaDrum performed with Roland TR-808 drum machines?

Posted by kmc | July 16, 2008 5:25 PM

last year this was the worst event NYC has ever seen (not including vice party @ santos party house)

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 5:51 PM

My cunt is FAST AND BULBOUS!

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 16, 2008 6:07 PM

can someone explain this whole concept to me and why so many people swoon over it?

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 9:49 PM

Is Vice involved in any ways? Hopefully after their inability to host an event last week they are excused from doing anything this year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 1:28 AM

oh fuck my dick. this is in williamsburg? FUCK THAT.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 3:38 AM

yeah, if this is one of those "first come first server" bullshit like last year then there's no way those not living in williamsburg will make it to this seeing as they just gotta cross the fucking street.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 3:44 AM

No, Vice is not involved this year as Boredoms are no longer releasing records on their label.
3:44am- If you want to go to the Brooklyn performance then get your ticket this Friday either at brownpapertickets.com or Other Music. If you arrive on time for the performance then you should get in with no problem.

Posted by anonymous | July 17, 2008 8:40 AM

santos party house better not be involved in any way either!

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 9:43 AM

The Boredoms show in March was not sold out. People go to free shows even if they are not fans. They should charge $2-3 for this show just to keep scenesters away.

And it's in Williamsburg! Ugh. Now the hipsters/scenesters will be out in full force.

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 10:01 AM

August 8th is a beautiful day.

Posted by Liz | July 17, 2008 10:40 AM

Please, Mr. AMNBA...

Goto "ManhattanVegan" and comment there.

We, the Brooklyn Assholes of America, don't need you here.

That is all.

Thank you,

Another Brooklyn Asshole

Posted by Another Brooklyn Asshole | July 17, 2008 11:44 AM

hmm. i'd prefer two dates with the boredoms and breaking the conceptual X/X/0X stuff....if the boredoms aren't there, why would it be called boadrum? it should be called gang gang snare.

Posted by annie momus | July 17, 2008 1:18 PM

Tix are available now. I just snagged one on the Brown Paper Tickets site.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:08 PM

hi~ i was in the 7/7/07 boadrums, and will be playing in l.a. suffice to say i am blessed. i just wanted to add that just because the boredoms will be in l.a., the new york performance will NOT suck. it will be amazing. thanks!

Posted by warren huegel | July 18, 2008 11:49 PM

My ticket turned up in the mail today.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 6:30 PM

got my ticket today in the mail too. it's nice and shiny.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2008 1:03 AM

they'll let me in with my camera, right?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2008 11:25 PM

I agree that gang gang dance is better/more interesting than boredoms (even though they're great) and there are gonna be a lot of great drummers at the brooklyn event, so i'm sure it will definitely be "worth it."

Any idea what time they start letting people in, and how early we should get there in order to ensure entry (with tickets, obviously)?
Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2008 3:16 AM

*they'll let me in with my camera, right?

>I'm not sure what the official word on cameras is for this particular event, but i'm sure you won't have a problem (unless it's a huge "professional" camera.) Usually at these kind of events security is not that tight, they might check bags but just stuff your camera out of sight and they probably won't even notice it.
