Broken Social Scene @ Sled Island 2008, Calgary - pics
photos by Rae Holtsabum

Broken Social Scene were also scheduled to play for an hour, but everything was running late and they had to cut their set to 40 minutes because of Calgary's noise bylaw [June 27, 2008].Watch videos of BSS playing Bonnaroo. Check them out for free in Coney Island on July 19th. Check out Andrew Whiteman solo in NYC on July 29th. More Sled Island pics below....The band came out to insane hoots and hollers and kicked it off with "KC Accidental" from 2002's You Forgot It In People. This version of the group consisted of Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Andrew Whiteman, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Sam Goldberg and Evan Cranley. Sporting a black baseball cap and leather jacket, Drew led the band through vigorous renditions of "Farewell To The Pressure Kids" and "Fucked Up Kid" from his Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew Spirit If... record. The band also played "Churches Under The Stairs" from the new Broken Social Scene Presents: Brendan Canning Something For All Of Us... disc.

I though Amy Millan was on this tour. Any idea if she will be back for Siren?

Living in Canada, I've seen BSS 5 times and this show was the first time play without one of the girls. I was surprised because I thought they'd at least have Calgary native, Lisa Lobsinger with them.

The women have been fired due to their inability to grow facial hair.

You mean, their inability to grow MORE facial hair.

BSS are suuuch a good band.
But they need a chick to rock out to "Almost Crimes," and to perform "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl." That shit is mandatory.
That being said, they're a great live band, even though Kevin Drew is such an obvious douche.
