Castle Clinton was America's 1st immigrant receiving center

Castle Clinton was built in anticipation of the War of 1812. A decade later it was renamed Castle Garden and was transformed into the City's premier cultural center. By 1855, successive landfills had enlarged the Park to encompass Castle Garden and the structure became America's first immigrant receiving center, welcoming 8.5 million people before it was succeeded by Ellis Island. In 1896, the Castle was transformed into the beloved New York Aquarium, one of the nation's first public aquariums. [The Battery Connservany]Don't forget that for tonight's St. Vincent show, "Tickets will be distributed 2 per person, outside Castle Clinton on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 5:00PM".

Who the hell can make it down there to pick up tix at 5 p.m.? This is a shitty way to run a concert series.

the only thing shitty is your potty mouth.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:11 AM
it's a free series, asshole.

They start giving them out at 5pm. That doesn't mean you won't get them if you get there later. Either way the show will start right at 7.

I have to agree with the first poster, who can make it there @ 5pm? Why not have it just be free? Or let people pick up tickets the day before? This is worse than those damn beer tickets that Jelly NYC uses.

The answer is: people who don't work 9-5 jobs.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:38 AM
or people who work near Wall Street
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:40 AM
what about people that work 9-7 jobs?

Anyone know if Castle Clinton allow cameras in?
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:55 AM
how long do tickets usually last for this?
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:59 AM
went last year for a show got there around 6 and they still had tickets. It was some southern rock thing name I forget, terrible band. Hope this answers your question.
oh, I think it was Drive By Truckers or something like that? thats who it was. Though I think St Vincet is prob a little more popular than them?

i saw DBT there last summer and they were still handing out tickets about 645/7pm, and they're a much bigger band that St Vincent
i hope this year is seated as well
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 11:09 AM
11:09 - St Vincent is much more popular that DBT, unless your from Alabama or something.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 11:12 AM
DBT played Terminal 5, St Vincent MHOW & Bowery last time through. DBT is more popular.

as for whether or not clinton castle allows cameras... river to river can kind of be a bitch if you're trying to take shots with an SLR without a press pass - point and shoots are probably fine. last year i was taking photos at the most chill, low-profile event and i was told i had to put my camera away. could be a different crowd here, but i wouldn't bet on it.

"11:09 - St Vincent is much more popular that DBT, unless your from Alabama or something."
DBT's audience ranges from 20-60 yr olds.
St Vincent's does not.
I'll be there though because I like her stuff

excellent. we're now pissing about who is more popular, dbt or annie clark. hahaha. fucking pathetic. seriously. please, all stay home so i can easily get my ticket.

if this has seats it might be bad, since there is no standing in the aisles policy there. hopefully just ga.
they run a pretty strict ship in there, like youd expect federal park rangers to do. welcome to George Bush's America.

i wish i could be a park ranger

Trust funded hipsters living in Brooklyn don't have to work! Hopefully they can wake up in enough time to get there for 5:00!

12:02-- I bet if you polled the park rangers at NYC national parks you'd find most are VERY anti-Bush. The rangers are people who love the history and want it preserved. The Bushies are the ones who want to cut their funding and sell the land.

i just woke up, but i'm not sure if i can make it by five. i'm still pretty hungover, but i'm going to go to starbucks for a venti soy frap something or other and we'll see what i can do.
it's just, like, so totally hard to, like, trek all the way into manhattan to pick up some tickets.
i like to just buy em off ticketmaster instead, cuz like, my dad pays my credit card bill no matter whether i'm buying patron, summer dresses, concert tickets or plane tickets home to wisconsin.
i mean, i just love the gritty lifestyle of being a young modern new yorker.
