China targets foreign entertainers after Bjork debacle

China will ban all entertainers from overseas, Hong Kong and Taiwan who have ever attended activities that "threaten national sovereignty", the government said on Thursday, after an outburst by Icelandic singer Bjork.Earlier this year, Bjork shouted "Tibet! Tibet!" at a Shanghai concert having performed her song "Declare Independence", which she has used in the past to promote independence movements in other places such as Kosovo. [Reuters]

Shucks, I guess that means my electroclash/dancepunk band, Yellow Peril, won't be able to get a gig in the People's Republic

a part of me loves when governments try to censor art because it means they have as much faith in its power as i do. i tend to think art influences and convinces better than anything else, that it's the best tool that exists to educate people and create social change (though it's also the greatest weapon to mislead and trick people). I find that most people in the world think of art as frivolous, but governments fear it.
