Dave Chapelle didn't show up last night

Kevin Powell"Kevin Powell took at least $500 from my friends and I. Dave Chapelle never showed!!!!!!! I want my money back!!" [Dustin Williams]

"yeah. People waited around in a packed shit hole venue for 2 hours to be told that Chappelle missed 2 flights and wouldn't be performing. Kevin Powell told the crowd to sign their names on the way out and they would get into the next charity event free. People were surprisingly accepting of this. Pretty Lame." [Anonymous]

dave chapelle - the new kanye west?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 9:23 AM

Was this all a ploy? I would have wanted my money back if I came only for Chapelle and didn't care about the candidate.

Apparently crybabies refuse to accept the realities of air travel when blogging their butthurt.

Can't we all go back to trashing every band that gets mentioned here?

---
“We were on the phones non-stop with Dave’s management to get him here,” said a contrite Powell, 43, who promised that campaign donors would get into his next celebrity event for free.

As the crowd of 700 grew restless and reporters started asking questions, Powell said that comedian Chris Rock was actually backstage to show his support for the underdog’s hip-hop-themed campaign, but that Rock declined to take the stage “out of respect [for] other comedians.”

Some attendees stood behind their candidate, despite the fiasco.

“I still support Powell,” said Melissa Horn. “Nothing that happened tonight is going to change that.”

This is, actually, the scariest sh*t you may just read on BV today.

That Chris Rock line is shatrageous! Surely not true. How would his not performing be "respecting other comedians"? How about "respecting people who paid $75+ to see comedy"?

i got there at 7pm and it took about 1.5 hours to get into the door because they had everyone on a list and had to check off names. note to any promoters throwing a show of any sort, having a list and checking off names is ALWAYS a cluster fuck, tickets and scanners usually work like a charm, well, usually they do.

anyway, pretty lame that dave wasn't there. i'm sure a good number of people were there to support kevin powell but most were there for chappelle.

even though mr. powell has guaranteed entry to his next event it doesn't guarantee it will include dave chappelle if i understand correctly.

knowing my luck it'll be fred savage blowing a donkey. while that could be entertaining, it's no chappelle.

i'm off to get botox done to my balls now to get all the wrinkles out.

Ha ha! Who the fuck is Kevin Powell to be running for office anyway? Glorified race-baiting writer of ex MTV fame isn't good enough.

many white people are easily swindled by smooth talking minority blacks due to a feeling of 'white guilt'. Ultimately, this is how Obama has risen so fast in US politics without actually accomplishing anything. He is the affirmative action candidate. This Keven Powell incident is a warm-up for Obama.

^^^^^
You'll never get into Santos Party House with that attitude

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:54 AM

Right, well we sent GWB to the white house after sinking two businesses and buying his way into the governors mansion in Texas. I guess that was reverse affirmative action? or something?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:57 AM

no, GWB was just nepotism. that sucks too.

Posted by BlackKids | July 10, 2008 10:58 AM

racism = not funny. no wonder Taco Time left.

Posted by Tresvanty | July 10, 2008 12:28 PM

I see some idiotic opinions, but I don't see anything super racist in this thread.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:42 PM

what did the 5 fingers say to the face?

how could anybody over 12 be gullible enough to think chappelle would show up for this? seriously?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:47 PM

WHERE IS DAVE CHAPELLE AT? HURRY UP

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:54 PM

Posted by Ashy Larry | July 10, 2008 2:55 PM

Isn't becoming the presumed democrat candidate an accomplishment?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 3:02 PM

I would call your credit card company and reverse the charge. You paid for something you didn't receive.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:45 PM

"I would call your credit card company and reverse the charge. You paid for something you didn't receive."

You mean, dispute the charge. And it's probably considered a donation, not a payment for a good or service, so you'd be SOL.
