Decomposing body found at McCarren Pool
"Just in from the newswire, there's a "suspicious death" being reported at McCarren Park Pool, allegedly at the building that serves as an entrance. The person was found "DOA by event staff" earlier this morning. Last night Twelve Ophelias, a play centered around Hamlet's Ophelia coming back to life, was staged there; the night before there was a screening of The Virgin Suicides. All in all, a dark week for McCarren. Thus far, multiple calls to the Precinct have gone unanswered."Months". I think that describes a long enough length of time to cover every event that has been at the pool this summer.UPDATE: ABC is reporting that police are currently trying to identify the badly decomposed body, which was found around 10 a.m. today after parks workers told police of "a foul odor coming from a shed at the pool for months." Reportedly they found the body (age, sex and race currently unknown) while retrieving equipment from the shed. It's uncertain how long the body has been decomposing for.

Why do so many hate on hipsters? I think it's genius what they've set up. Essentially they created a world where caring and effort is shunned and being unproductive is completely accepted. They have the luxury of living a life of making obscure and speculation. Their clothes allow them to appear and be accepted as smart and witty by peers without actually doing or saying anything particularly intelligent.

For anyone whose ever seen a decomposing body, the process basically causes all the skin (that remains) to turn brown, so it really is pretty much impossible to determine skin color based simply on a viewing of the body. Depending upon the conditions where the body decomposed (hot humid tool shed being about the worst) almost all identifying characteristics will be impossible to tell short of an autopsy.

I'm not a detective but I have seen an awful lot of Law and Order episodes, and I've been thinking. As has been noted, it's pretty odd that the park workers admit to noticing the bad smell for months but never looked inside. And it's pretty odd that none of the park workers appear to have needed to get a tool or anything out of that tool shed for months, or the body would have been discovered earlier. Now, lets think about how the body got into the shed in the first place. Let's make the crazy assumption that tood sheds in city parks have locks on them. Who had access to that tool shed? Park workers, that's who.
