I like Eddie/PJ and everything, but $75+ is a bit steep.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 9:14 PM

the recording i have from west coast is amazing- i cant wait for this! $75 too steep? don't go- easier ticket for me.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 9:19 PM

$75 is more than a pj ticket...
way too much!

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 9:44 PM

does he play all solo songs? acoustic or full band? pj songs?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 10:08 PM

mix of solo - pj - and covers -

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 10:35 PM

$75 = same price as PJ ticket at recent MSG stint.

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 11:37 PM

all solo accoustic

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2008 11:51 PM

it's an amazing testament to vedder that he can command these huge theatres just for his solo shows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 12:27 AM

ridiculous! seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 2:26 AM

actually the show isn't entirely acoustic. there are some electric songs, but he's still solo (billy bragg style).

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 5:58 AM

We saw the show in Santa Cruz in April and it was fantastic. Probably helped being in one of the best places on earth and the vibe was perfect. Highly recommended show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 6:51 AM

$75!! I remember when I was 14 and used to be a pj fan and I thought it was cool when they were standing up to ticketmaster over ticket prices and fees.

At some point I lost taste for their music but continued to respect them for trying to keep concert tickets priced low, not making videos for mtv, releasing albums on vinyl before cd, etc...

What happened?

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 10:43 AM

During their first major tour, they refused to charge more than $18 for a ticket. Promoters were mad at them.

What happened indeed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 11:48 AM

I will tell you what happened: The internet. If everbody actually paid for the music they listen to, artists would be much more happy to charge 25 bucks for the live show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 11:57 AM

Also what good is charging too little. If they did, everyone would just scalp them for $75 anyway. At least Eddie gets his money this way.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 12:18 PM

$75 would make sense if he was playing smaller venues, but these are huge theaters. even on a solo tour, he's making more money per show than most of us make in a year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 12:25 PM

I have a strange craving for a jimi hendrix flavored ICEE

Posted by mmmm | July 4, 2008 12:48 PM

These prices are crazy. Is he going to build a green city with all that money or what?

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 12:51 PM

United Palace holds 3,293. $75 x 3,500 tickets = $262,500 x 2 nights = $525,000. Figure the venue and promoter keep at least $200,000 of that. Eddie is still making more than most of make in 3 years in 2 nights.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 1:03 PM

he deserves it

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 1:36 PM

"$75 would make sense if he was playing smaller venues, but these are huge theaters."

Actually, that's kind of the opposite of the way it works - the bigger the venue, the more production and staff costs there are - you know how many union people are working at MSG on any given night? I'm surprised PJ managed to keep the tickets as low as they were. Also understand that nightly profit doesn't just go straight into the artist's pocket: take Anon. 1:03's numbers and say the profit for the two nights at United Palace is $325,000 - he's gonna immediately lose at least 30% of that to various levels of management and booking agents' fees, he's gotta pay some staff/crew a direct daily salary, Eddie Vedder most likely doesn't fly under the Tax Man's radar like many other bands might, and in that bracket, he's probably losing another 30 - 40%... Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying he isn't making some decent bank per show, but it's not as ridiculous as it might seem at first.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 2:07 PM

To all who are complaining about the price... I saw Eddie Vedder perform solo in Berkeley back in April. Worth every penny. Supremely moving show. And most surprisingly, even better than the secret show that PJ played at Irving Plaza in 2006. Just food for thought...

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 2:20 PM

"Supremely moving show. And most surprisingly, even better than the secret show that PJ played at Irving Plaza in 2006. Just food for thought..."

Wow what a 4th of July moron you are. Obviously you are one of the people who lied about being at the Irving Plaza show. I have seen Eddie solo and while it is a nice show to try and even compare it to that 2006 club show by a band at their peak with a small crowd absolutely frenzied is just laughable at best

Cmon this thread is getting stupid. There is no debate here. 75 dollars to see Eddie play songs in a huge place like United Palace does not even make sense. Eddie is great but this is not Neil Young and even he brought a band for half the show.

Although my suggestion for those who really want to see this show, dont even think of buying tickets when they go on sale. As sure as day fades into night, there will be a huge amount of tickets for sale outside the venue night of show for cheap cheap.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2008 2:29 PM

Fuck Eddie Vedder. You people really like this douche? Saying you love Eddie Vedder is the equivalent of saying that you love Kid Rock..or some other boring-ass mainstream rock star. Go ahead and pay top price to go see him. You are all probably used to spending big bucks to go to stadium concerts. Maybe you can buy a real cool multi-colored tour-shirt while you are there for 40 more bucks. You can wear it to the mall and show it off to all the other middle american top 40 listening rock slobs.

Posted by reality chezch | July 4, 2008 3:35 PM

3:35, you are someone who thinks they know a lot about music, but in fact know nothing. Your a fucking idiot and will probably pay to see Tegan and Sara play the same set twice in a row at Terminal.

Western Canada is for fucking losers.

Posted by huge hog | July 5, 2008 7:03 PM

reality chezch... pearl jam are mainstream?? a cult band that has avoided the spotlight for the last 15 years? And put out a string of fairly uncommercial records. I'm pretty sure brooklynvegan and pitchfork are more mainstream than pearl jam at the moment.

PJ always gives a share of their show earnings to local charities. And they just raised 3 million at benefit show... blah blah..

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2008 8:37 PM

umm 8:37 are you an idiot? Pearl Jam selling out MSG two nights in a row and getting airplay on modern rock radio stations makes them a cult band?
What does that make Conor Oberst?
You sir, are an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2008 9:25 PM

I like that song "The Whipping" about how Eddie is not the typical model-marrying/hollywood celeb- shnoozing rock star.

Well,he is,but good song.

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2008 9:41 PM

9:25, something tells me you are Conor Oberst.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2008 1:01 AM

8:37, so...if a band puts out a couple of shitty, unsuccessful albums and say that they give money to charity, they automatically don't suck? I myself am a big Nick Cave fan. Let's just say for arguments sake that this was a Nick Cave post where you said that Nick Cave is a sell-out hack(it's your every right) Could I then stick up for him by saying..."But his last two albums were flops, and he gives money every year to the Jerry Lewis telathon!!" Does that automatically give someone cult status? Granted, he doesn't have a show on the sundance channel where he hangs and surfs with wicked cool dudes like Laird Hamilton.. Hmmm...Maybe that's what does it for you...Vedder just looks so damn good in a wetsuit.

Posted by reality chezch | July 6, 2008 8:22 AM

i like my asses fat not flat.

Posted by lord quas | July 6, 2008 9:13 AM

8:22, so, because you haven't heard them on the radio, and you don't have the receipts, you assume that the post-superstardom Pearl Jam records are shitty and unsuccessful and they're only "saying" they give money to charity? I was never a fan of "Alive," I HATED "Jeremy," etc., but they've made some great music since then that's been ignored by the "mainstream media," and they do, in fact, use their earning power and profile to work with causes to raise money and awareness all the time - and when I say "all the time," I mean ALL the time. If this was 1994 your comment might be more to the mark (and I probably would be chiming in in your defense), but it's not, and it hasn't been for... 14 years.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2008 11:04 AM

thank you 11:04

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2008 11:08 AM

11:04 is right on!
you "hipster" douchebags keep on pretending to listen to music no one has heard of.
good music is good music... it comes in ALL forms and styles

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2008 11:33 AM

"they've made some great music since then that's been ignored by the "mainstream media"

Like what?I actually have Binaural and Riot Act and am not suprised at all those albums "were ignored".Those albums sounded like watered down, passionless versions of their earlier albums.

Earlier albums which now sound like dated classic rock to me.Nirvana sound much fresher with their faster post-punk.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2008 11:34 AM

"Nirvana sound much fresher with their faster post-punk."

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Oh man... that's a good one...

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:21 PM

Eddie's not going to pocket a half mil from the United Palace shows. There are a few expenses involved, I'm sure. And even if he got it all, he'd deserve it.

Eddie is delicious. Most of you are indeed douchebags.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 1:59 PM

Eddie is delicious for sure.

Posted by RAIN | July 9, 2008 5:11 PM

I got my 10C tix for the 8/4 show, and can't fucking wait for this. Reviews of the west coast shows he did in the spring were great, and the handful of PJ shows I just caught on this tour were all around excellent. My only complaint is that I have to go to 175th and Broadway for the goddamn show...

Posted by aspiring non-douchebag | July 9, 2008 7:37 PM

FUCKKKK VEDDER------The band was cooler, when they charged 30 dollars for a show-------

80 dollars, then Eddie Chedder charges 80 buckkkks-------thats fuct up--------

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 1:03 PM

Anyone able to get tix? Tried at 1:01 and no luck (went on sale at 1pm)

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 12:55 PM

Same thing happened to me. Pretty unreal.

Posted by themasses | July 11, 2008 1:29 PM

Yeah I got nothing at 1:01pm for either show.

What the shit?

Posted by 6 & 1/2 inch cock | July 11, 2008 1:39 PM

"Christ, Eddie Vedder sold 6,000+ tix in under 2 minutes (2xUPT Capacity)"

What exactly are you shocked about? There are a lot of stupid people in the world and in this city. Go up to United Palace the day of the show and after you buy a ticket outside for less than face, have a good laugh at their expense

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 11, 2008 1:50 PM

You're contradicting yourself-- people are going to pay DOUBLE the face for this on eBay and craigslist until the day of the show. If the demand is high, wouldn't that mean the prices are higher?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 1:59 PM

Oh, and Sigur Ros sold out the same number of seats for much more reasonable prices, so it looks like it's his fans' fault for having such bad taste in music.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 2:04 PM

^^^^^ quit raping your mother.

Posted by Baby Penis | July 11, 2008 2:06 PM

I managed to get a single ticket for August 4 - after reading the reviews of the West Coast tour I'm SO excited. I caught the PJ show in Camden and it was amazing.

I get that some people aren't in to Eddie Vedder or PJ - but why be dicks about the show? "Looks like his fans' fault for having such bad taste in music"? What does that even mean?

Don't fucking go.

Posted by Kristin | July 11, 2008 4:35 PM

"You're contradicting yourself-- people are going to pay DOUBLE the face for this on eBay and craigslist until the day of the show. If the demand is high, wouldn't that mean the prices are higher?"

You idiot. Craigslist and ebay are filled with people ASKING for ridiculous prices for tickets. It does not mean that is what they are getting. Tons of people jack up eBAY sellers bids and then dont pay em. Yes some people will pay those prices and they are morons or super rich and dont give a fuck. For the rest come the week of the show the supply will be far greater than the demand. The bigger the place the more tickets that are in circulation and the more tickets scalpers got their hands on. Plus United Palace is such a remote place in a sketchy neighborhood, most people are not gonna venture up there just to try and scalp a ticket day of show. Every single United Palace show so far had people with tickets literally trying to give them away at the show day of. Thjs show will be no different. Oh and lets not forget that United Palace close to the week of the show starts selling cheap tickets in the standing room isles.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 11, 2008 6:16 PM

this "A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole" is a dumbshit. every time he gets on here he says something obnoxious and ill informed. fuck that guy.

Obnoxious maybe but Dumbshit? Ill Informed? You wish you stupid motherfucker. Please tell me what in the comment of mine above was not true. Truth hurts bitch.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2008 9:01 AM

"Every single United Palace show so far had people with tickets literally trying to give them away at the show day of."

You didn't go to Neil Young if this is what you think. But you are a self proclaimed asshole so you probably don't care about hearing what other people have to say.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2008 9:07 AM

7:14 -- shut up. You clog up space on this blog and add nothing of value.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2008 9:19 AM

^^^^^Hah the bitter bitch fools are back again. Again, point out where I am delusional? Go back on here to the thread on the Neil Young UP shows and see where a number of people say that they bought tickets for dirt cheap outside the show. Remember, don't hate the player you losers, hate the game.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 12, 2008 9:24 AM

Anyone go to the show last night at the United Palace? I got tickets for tonight. Tickets say 6:30. What time did he go on? Anyone opening?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 9:07 AM

Yes, I went last night - AMAZING show. He went on at about 845/850, played til about 1045. Setlist is as follows:

Walking the Cow, Trouble, Around the Bend, I Am Mine, Dead Man Walking, I'm Open, Man of the Hour, Sometimes, Set Forth, No Ceiling, Guaranteed, Far Behind, Rise Up, Millworker, Soon Forget, Goodbye, [Used to Walk in Chicago], Walk Hard (snippet from the Dewey Cox movie), Drifting, Hide Your Love Away, Porch

Encore 1:
Wishlist, Let My Love Open the Door (w/ sing along), Society (w/ Liam), Masters of War, No More, Arc

Encore 2:
Hard Sun (w/ Liam and EJ)

My advice on the opener is to skip it. That dude can wail on a drum kit, but, his female counterpart (EJ) on stage is so goddamn annoying that it basically made the entire thing unlistenable...and that is me being friendly. My only other complaint was the asshole who sat behind me and thought that this was a concert at MSG that he could scream and yell the whole time during. Go back to Philly!

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 9:28 AM

douchey frat pj fans treated this scaled down show like an arena/festival rock show - non stop commotion in the aisles, yelling out, talking, just utter annoyance. pearl jam always has had its share (bout 50/50) of annoying douchey fans, but they really shine at this kind of show.

very disappointing, EV himself was great, but sadly was overshadowed tonight

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 12:54 AM

Anon -- Eddie was not great! Been to our number of pj concerts and, without being rowdy or annoying, enjoyed every one of them. As far as I am concerned, Eddie is fantastic with the band but utterly boring and a disappointing as a solo act.

Songs were obsure and lacked any form of upbeat tempo or interest. Why such a profoundly moving artist does not adapt the more popular works of the pj repetoire to an acoustic style is inexplicable to me!

It's too late for NY now, however, anyone headed to Montreal doesn't need to hurry to see EV solo.

Posted by anon | August 7, 2008 5:11 PM

Eddie is now everything he once (so publicly) denounced. From dumping his childhood sweetheart to his model girlfriend to hob nobbing with celebrities and charging enormous prices to hear what? Eddie......go surf, enjoy your money and go out with a little class. A Mick Jagger you're not.

Posted by Jen | August 8, 2008 12:21 AM

I was at the Toronto show last night. It was fantastic! He was witty, charming and personable. He made a real connection with the crowd and impressed everyone who was lucky enough to be there! So stop bashing Eddie, he is as down to earth as ever!

Posted by Sam | August 13, 2008 9:48 AM

Hey jen who the fuck wants to go out like scraggly old Mick jagger? Seriously shut up!

Posted by anon | August 13, 2008 10:01 AM

Vedder smells like poop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2008 10:03 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2008 10:13 AM

NJPAC (best small venue in the country) was a perfect show....fittingly, someone asked the lyrics to ledbetter "after all these years, are you telling me there are lyrics to that song?" but then proceded to tell the meaning, and it was pretty touching and powerful, to weighty for this board

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2008 10:54 AM

Just so you all know he didnt make any money off this tour all the money for tickets went to Charity. He only made money for his mechandise. I also believe the charity was for helping out wounded soliders so stop saying $75 is steep
