I was going to hit up the Brian Wilson free show tonight. Has anyone seen a show at Asser Levy/Seaside Park? Is there a lot of space? I don't anticipate I'd get there until 7:15 and I'd hate to be shut out.

theres alot of seating at the front, but you might need to pay for that. Or rent a chair or something. I went last year and saw the zombies from prett far away. Expect lots of old people.

ask ted leo about "piano man." if you say it nicely enough, he will play the song.

I'm going to see Saul Williams at Virgin Megastore in Union Square.

what, no love for Brian Wilson?

Another free show - I've been playing piano for 6 weeks now and tonight I'll be performing selections from the Elton John 'Easy Big Note Piano' songbook. Show starts at 8 sharp with 'Rocket Man'.

BV your calendar messed me up! Your FREE calendar said the Ted Leo show started at 7:30pm (Not 7:00pm!) and it would last until 10:30. I biked 200 blocks and got there at 9pm (thinking the show would be on until 10:30) but it was long over.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:40 AM

The Castle Clinton shows have been starting at 7pm for YEARS.

12:40 dont believe everything you read on the internet. btw went to Fiery Furnaces, it was a pretty low key affair.

ted leo was good (as always). they covered Hybrid Moments and dedicated it to everyone from Jersey. Nice touch. anyone know what that lost song he played solo was? I think maybe it was a cover

^^ It was "Fisherman's Blues," by The Waterboys

next time, anon 12:40 should check the official R2R site before blaming someone who is just trying to provide a nice free service.

It's your own fault for not checking specifics on official sites. BV's calendar is more of a reminder of what's happening. Most half-way intelligent people wouldn't take the details on it as gospel.

The calendar on Oh My Rockness is more accurate.

if you went by nyc tapers calendar, you would have missed Fiery Furnaces as well, they were done by 9pm.

The music blog calendar wars start here!

Fiery Furnaces was great, I thought. It's amazing how they manage to rearrange their songs almost every time they tour.

Good show by FF, not as crowded as I might have expected. Dug the dual drummers.

Posted by david | July 18, 2008 11:20 AM

At least nyctapir will let you hear what you missed from relying on his faulty times.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 11:23 AM

maybe he gave wrong times to minimize crowd noise?

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 11:30 AM

you know what i think its sort of bullshit arguement he has over there with this advertising thing, in the meantime he cries poverty and accepts free tickets to shows. wtf, dude?

if he means what he says at least he should pay for the ticket, that free ticket he gets thats money directly out of the pocket of the struggling artists he supports. not many of those either, most bands he covers are mainstream.

Im glad I dont have his taste in music as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:38 PM

fiery furnaces are kinda the worst band ever. so much gimmick.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:39 PM

"Good show by FF, not as crowded as I might have expected. Dug the dual drummers.

Posted by david"

Why would you think it would have been crowded. There were a ton of other shows both free and pay last night. Not to mention the fact that FF have played about 1000 shows in the city this year. I am surprised anyone but nyctaper actually showed up.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 18, 2008 1:55 PM

Fiery Furnaces played once in NYC this year, in Brooklyn in April. They also played in Hoboken in January.

"fiery furnaces are kinda the worst band ever. so much gimmick"

HA HA... you have no taste. FFs are one of the best bands around. If you don't like interesting, progressive, creative music... I could see how you wouldn't like them. I think they are happy to not appeal to people like you...
