off topic question:

Posted by jables | July 8, 2008 3:35 PM
i liked them better when they were called my morning jacket.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 3:43 PM
10pm for albert hammond
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 3:44 PM
or even after that when they were band of horses.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 3:45 PM
they sound pretty fucking good as the fleet foxes.
Posted by mj | July 8, 2008 3:52 PM
Anyone know what time the BV Commenters shut the fuck up tonight?
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 3:54 PM
@ Anon 3:54
I think the same time Daft Punk comes on.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:03 PM
people calling these guys MMJ ripoffs are victims of lazy journalism.
Posted by grace6697 | July 8, 2008 4:07 PM
hey did anybody notice that in am ny today they put the same dates and places for fleet of foxes shows and
damon albarn shows is damon albarn secretly playing with fleet of foxes
if it's not an error those darn kids who brought those fleet of foxes tickets are darn lucky especially for union hall!!!
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:09 PM
hmmm
listening to the mp3's i wish i had brought tickets damon albarn or not
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:11 PM
lazy journalism? come on. they're a fucking my morning jacket wannabe. at least band of horses did something slightly different and took a few more influences than fleet foxes.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:14 PM
"people calling these guys MMJ ripoffs are victims of lazy journalism.
Posted by grace6697"
Well calling them MMJ ripoffs is incorrect but wow a moron calling someone else lazy. Now that is the pot calling the kettle charcoal.
Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 8, 2008 4:18 PM
that is an absolutley terrible remix of that song
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:21 PM
i don't exactly think those words are synoonyms
but whatever tomAto tomato, moron lazy ...?
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:22 PM
IMO, Fleet Foxes write better music that MMJ and Band of Horses. They preform better than the later, though I've not seen MMJ yet. The similarities are useful for description, but are pretty superficial. They are way less rockfish.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:41 PM
"They are way less rockfish."
yes, fleet foxes are certainly not rockfish
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:44 PM
"IMO, Fleet Foxes write better music that MMJ and Band of Horses"
ha, someone had to finally say that. I like it.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:45 PM
see MMJ first. then discuss.
Posted by grace6697 | July 8, 2008 4:52 PM
i knew that as soon as a fleet foxes post goes up, someone will rear his head to yell "they suck!" in fact, any band mentioned here inspires unsolicited opinion, and no justification for that opinion other than "they suck."
ahh, music "fans."
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 4:58 PM
my god, that remix is fucking wretched.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 5:03 PM
remixes are typically second rate to the song
Posted by Eric | July 8, 2008 5:07 PM
i guess what i'm trying to say is that there is no need to bring up my morning jacket when discussing fleet foxes. it's not a good comparison. fleet foxes would never do a song like One Big Holiday and my morning jacket would most likely not do a song like Heard Them Stirring.
in conclusion, look past the vocals.
Posted by grace6697 | July 8, 2008 5:11 PM
if you listen a bit, they actually sound more like grizzly bear.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 5:14 PM
my morning jacket can do anything though - jim james and the vocals make that band what they are - not just one trick songs like one big holiday.
have you even listened to evil urges??
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 5:15 PM
Guys, this is Jack at Union Hall. Please do not buy any tickets via Craigslist because Ticketweb tickets are NON-TRANSFERABLE. You will need your ID and credit card you purchased the tickets with and your whole party with you to enter the club. That goes for guest list as well. I just want to save some people the heartbreak of showing up and saying they are using someone else's space. Not here, sorry.
Posted by Jack | July 8, 2008 5:20 PM
Grace, thanks for that long winded and completely unintelligent and nonsensical comment
Sheesh, idiot
Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 8, 2008 5:21 PM
i didn't say that MMJ *couldn't* do a song like Heard Them Stirring. i said that they most likely would not...given that they've just totally embraced all of their soul/funk impulses.
and yes, they can and should do anything they want.
Posted by grace6697 | July 8, 2008 5:26 PM
right back at you 5:21
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 5:28 PM
In GTA4, BOHAN, in Liberty City is the Bronx not Brooklyn. They're tour schedule should have read BROKER, Liberty City not BOHAN.

i like grace6697, she seems like one of the few commenters on here who actually like music.
Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 5:34 PM
the dc show at black cat sold out in advance also. tried to get tix the day before to no avail.

"i like grace6697, she seems like one of the few commenters on here who actually like music.

That is cute. Grace is posting as Anon to give her self some love. Pathetic but cute.
I mean cmon a comment like MMJ would not do a certain type of song because "they've just totally embraced all of their soul/funk impulses." is just stupid and completely wrong. As stupid and completely wrong as any comment trying to say FF rip off MMJ. It does not show a love of music. It shows a complete misreading and shallow view of the music. The record MMJ just released has many different styles on it. The concerts they have been playing recently contain many different styles in it. FF are a young band with only one full record out. Robin Pecknold is a smart young artist with his musical head and heart in the right place. He and the rest of the band will grow I am sure to have some diversity in their music as well.

"but right now - they just sound like my morning jacket. except shittier."
Again, another lame attempt to try to attribute a comment to me by using a capital i to look like an L. It will never work you fool but keep trying.
"are all brooklyn vegan readers so damn petty and silly?
Posted by brookyln people are insufferable whiners"
And lame and tools and losers and unintelligent and not clever, witty or funny etc etc. Seems that way.

Whoops did it again. Forgot to sign off on that last comment(7:08)

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 8, 2008 9:18 PM
you can't use only 3 words of the song and call it a remix
Posted by ARK | July 8, 2008 11:19 PM
I LIKE DANCING WITH MYSELF.
MMJ = FLEET FOXES

Ticketweb says tickets go on sale at noon Thursday for the midnight show. $12.
Posted by anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:10 AM
frankly, grizzly bear is better than MMJ/Fleet Foxes AND Band of Horses
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:21 AM
fleet foxes are like an unintentional parody of all things "indie rock" - if they were singing spinal tap esque lyrics i'd at least be impressed that they at least know how contrived they themselves are.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:33 AM
You are shut up Mr. 12:33. Seriously. Grow a beard. Come with us.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 12:41 AM
holy fucking shit was that amazing.

The Set List:
1. Sun Giant
2. Sun It Rises
3. Drops In The River
4. English House
5. White Winter Hymnal
6. Your Protector
7. He Doesn't Know Why
8. Crayon Angels [Judee Sill Cover] (Robin solo)
9. Oliver James (Robin solo)
10. Mykonos
11. Blue Ridge Mountains
(encore)
12. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Robin solo)
Fleet Foxes were very good, but boy is Robin Pecknold sick. He downed five or six bottles of water over the course of the 50-minute set, and it took four songs for him to warm up his voice. He sounded noticeably better from White Winter Hymnal on. He was also sick the last time they played, but this time around the band looked really beat, their set lacked the joyful stage banter of their last show. I don't know how he'll do tomorrow night, performing two sets in his condition, but I'm pulling for him.
A few other notes:
-J. Tillman is a really good percussionist (the songs have a more defined beat) and his vocals add a lot of depth to the songs. Mykonos is a near religious experience with him.
-I had a truly love-hate relationship with the crowd. While I admired their ability to cheer for (and lift the spirits of) an obviously ailing Pecknold, they were a little obnoxious. Clap after songs, don’t clap for ten seconds just because your favorite song just started. Also, don't hoot, holler, or whistle in the middle of a song. I don't care if Robin just uttered your favorite lyric or if it's your “jam,” bro, you’re a cocksuck.

wonderful, but really short show.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 1:48 AM
Short? They played nearly all their songs.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 1:55 AM

quoted for posterity from anonymous in other thread:

fleet foxes are kind of like the first time i heard the shins. it totally changed my life.
Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2008 8:09 AM
No "He Doesn't Know Why"?
Posted by MyLife | July 10, 2008 11:24 AM
theres another remix of this song that i like better by black dominoes.
anyone who thinks FF is anything like MMJ has never witnessed an MMJ show.
not hating on any of the bands, i just think they are different. duder in FF does sound a little bit like jones, but that's about it.
