Green River @ SP20, Seattle, WA - pics
photos by Shawn Brackbill

It was the birthday present everybody wanted from the start. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam and Mother Love Bone. Mudhoney's Mark Arm and Steve Turner. Mother Love Bone/Love Battery guitarist Bruce Fairweather. Drummer Alex Shumway. Every member of original grunge band Green River, joined together for the first time in two decades. green river: an awesome concept, but sadly the records were pretty awful. and this comes from a pearl jam and mudhoney fan.

"that must have been awesome....looks like 25 people are there"
Because we all know the more people there the more awesome the show, right? Just look at those awesome Bon Jovi pics!

While Pearl Jam and Mudhoney both had a retro 60s bent, Green River were awesome because they were pure 80s--a lot more muscular and sleazy than either of the bands that followed. Clearly, they weren't afraid to hide their love for Iron Maiden or Aerosmith...
"Forever Means" is almost like this alternate reality "Rocket Queen" by GNR!

Yeah it was only 40 minutes but it was the best 40 minutes of rock that I've heard in quite some time. My ears are still ringing from it.

yup... also, back in 1989/1990 lots of people were comparing Mother Love Bone to Gn'R...

No 4:58, Nobody said Bon Jovi was awesome on this blog, nor is that event a viable comparison to a 4-5,000 attendee event on the West Coast (When this is supposedly an "NYC-Centric" blog). With that said, it really does suck when some cheese-rock guy from the 80's has more money, staying power, and notches in his bed-post then 90% of the bands covered on this blog I'd say. Jealousy apparently hurts alot of the hipsters/poseurs here, and it's 100% amusing to say the least.
