High Places - funny Stuy Town video, babies, new albums

High Places in Stuyvesant Town, NYC - July 2, 2008 (andytw)
High Places in Stuytown

High Places' first offering, due out in July 2008, is the singles collection "03/07 - 09/07" that collects the above mentioned songs plus a few harder to find gems ("Jump In" being a song commissioned for an elementary school music program, "Freaked Flight" a reworked demo cut and "Canary" which appeared on a compilation) from 2007 (recently made available via special arrangement with E-Music) making them all available for the first time world wide on CD. No need to scour EBay. All the magnificent tracks that endeared them to us and those lucky enough to have seen them so far, will be included.

The CD release of "03/07 - 09/07" will be followed by their eagerly awaited debut full-length due out on September 23rd, 2008. This summer the band will hit the road for a European trek with Deerhunter, an American jaunt with fellow DIY enthusiasts No Age and will also be making stops at a handful of festivals world-wide, including Pitchfork and the MIDI Festival.

These albums are being releaed on Thrill Jockey. Photo from the Stuy Town show above. Video below....

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 11:00 AM

I've heard of targeting a younger audience but maybe this isn't what they had in mind..

Kind of priceless...but kind of embarassing too.

I bet they rather watch WeeSing tapes.

Wow, looks like the Wiggles have some competition!

That video is taken during the soundcheck in the afternoon. There were hundreds of people on the grass during the actual performance.
All the people walking by could not have done that during the show as all the grass area was taken up by people sitting.

Those kids were so stoned

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:25 PM

11:52 is dead wrong. that wasn't the sound check there were a lot of people there but there was also a lot of space right in front of the stage. it was a relatively early show, they went on around 8. most people sat down on blankets on the lawn.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:46 PM

No, YOU are dead wrong. There was no one walking straight through during the show like those people walking by in the video. There were kids up front, but they weren't these kids. I can actually tell you the name of the kids who were upfront, and in fact Mary said hi to them by name during the show.

The first maybe 10 feet were unoccupied during the show, in this video, its pretty much the whole area--that's because THIS IS THE SOUNDCHECK.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:51 PM

They went on at exactly 7:10. There's sun shining off the front of the stage on this video. Its daytime, BECAUSE IT IS THE SOUNDCHECK.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:53 PM

this was most definitely not the sound check! my friend maggie was sitting next to me and we were talking about how we wanted to steal the baby with the pink pants and curly hair the entire time we were watching the show- she is shown here rocking out. NO JOKE, this is DURING the show. the nervous dad kept walking back and forth to check on his kiddies- you can see him in the video. everyone laid on the lawn and watched the little ones rock out. it was awesome!

this really is a great post. I could do without the last five or so comments - i would love to continue thinking of high places as a daycare band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 11:07 PM

to 5:46 - my friend took the video, no joke. it wasn't the soundcheck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 11:42 PM

i love that high places got their friends to post on here saying it was "soundcheck"

come one guys, just love the fact that babies were enjoying it
I would it's super cute

but don't pretend like it's b/c it was soundcheck

i don't think it's the high places friends
just an over zealous fan
don't know weather it was the sound check or not
cuz i wasn't at the soundcheck
but the video seems very similiar to what i saw at the actual show, which was free range infront for kids to run around and their parents to walk back and forth
because it was a chill atmosphere and ppl weren't crammering for the front because all were sitting and looking up would kill your neck
