Rilo Kiley @ Terminal 5 (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis will release a solo album Acid Tongue on Warner Bros Records in September. This is the follow-up to her internationally acclaimed 2006 album Rabbit Fur Coat (Team Love Records). The album announcement comes just weeks after Jenny wrapped a world wide tour in support of Rilo Kiley's Under The Blacklight album (Warner Bros Records, 2007).

Some of Lewis' most steadfast collaborators appear on Acid Tongue: Johnathan Rice, Farmer Dave Scher, Jason Boesel, Jason Lader and M Ward. She also invited other notable musician friends into the fold, including Elvis Costello for a duet ("Carpetbaggers"), Chris Robinson (of The Black Crowes), Benji Hughes, Zooey Deschanel (of She & Him) & Vanessa Corbala (of Whispertown2000) on backing vocals, Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle / The Entrance Band) and her sister Ana provided strings, Davey Faragher (of The Imposters) on bass, as well as Laurel Canyon's own Jonathan Wilson on guitar, and even members of Jenny's own family. Her sister Leslie Lewis provided backing vocals on two songs while her father, harmonica virtuoso Eddie Gordon makes a star turn on rumbling bass harp.

The all analog, no Pro-Tools sessions were all part of a shared aesthetic between Lewis, her producers, and her musician collaborators, working quickly and tracking her vocals entirely live and without embellishment. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California in just 3 weeks, the album's tracks, disparate as they are, share a sparkling vitality; Lewis' voice has never sounded so expressive and the narratives have never been so hard-hitting and acerbic.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 4:35 PM

any word on whether leslie lewis is a younger sister? and single? and looks exactly like jenny? and lives in new york? all those things would be pretty huge.

Rocky Napoli refuses to objectify women on this website.

Posted by Rocky Napoli | July 14, 2008 5:12 PM

I prefer pics that show her front side. She looks likes she smuggling cantaloupe.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 6:04 PM

I like those redheads...

Posted by Eric Wooderson | July 14, 2008 6:25 PM

so we get 40 pics of bon fuckin jovi and one of the redheaded indie rock goddess jenny. yeah, that makes sense.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 6:42 PM

so now that her solo stuff has moved to warner bros, this means she'll be nominated for best new artist grammy next year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 6:56 PM

to be fair Bon Jovi is pretty damn hot for his age

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 7:03 PM

Jenny's old.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 8:46 PM

mmm jenny... the way you grip that shaft...

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:30 PM

>to be fair Bon Jovi is pretty damn hot for his age

and as a counterpoint i'd have to say that so is jenny!

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:42 PM

Jenny is a sexy chick with a great voice and some decent songwriting skills. Jon Bon Jovi is a good-looking guy whose music is just awful but whose heart is in the right place, he's done a lot of good charitable things.

Posted by Deb | July 14, 2008 10:32 PM

It's kind of vile that all the posts about Jenny inevitably spiral into comments like "Id hit that" and "she's hot." Misogynistic pricks--why must we always objectify female musicians? What about discussing--GASP-- the music???

Posted by rosa | July 15, 2008 9:51 AM

Well, NYU student rosa, why not direct your ire at BV himself, who constantly baits such comments by posting the sexiest photos possible of (many, not most) female artists on the site?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 9:58 AM

no doubt Rosa is a fan of 50 Cent, WuTang, Snoop, Lil Wayne, TI, RKelly, etc.

and, Rosa, it's called testosterone. look into it and all the wonderful things it makes us men-folk do.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 10:05 AM

ahh i remember that tune see fernando from jenny's shows with the watson twins. good song!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 10:06 AM

Right--you guys just can't CONTROL yourself or your testosterone!! Poor men, at the mercy of their dicks. Jenny should stop being hot and/or BV should stop posting attractive pics of her so that you can stop being fucking sexist assholes.

Posted by rosa | July 15, 2008 10:14 AM

What's your point Rosa?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 11:11 AM

i'll stop being a sexist asshole when you stop being an unrealistic cunt.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 12:25 PM

jenny you are my moon goddess, please marry me

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 12:42 PM

you sure can get a long way on looks and inoffensiveness

that said I hear this woman is a very nice person and is just as confused as the rest of us as to her and her bland bland bland bands' inexplicable popularity

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 12:59 PM

always weird how women on a stage or on a screen produce all this adulation whereas they would be barely memorable if the same faces and bodies were nobodies walking down the sidewalk.

it's pretty sad that there are men and women (especially young girls, Jonas Bros for instance) who will delude themselves into liking the mediocre creative output of someone they find attractive.

It would make more sense if these idols were even attractive in any really special way.

Hey Rosa:

(1) Take a look at the Bon Jovi post: no shortage of comments on JBJ's looks. So please...

(2) Jon Bon Jovi exposes his yummy, hairy chest because he knows what that does to his fans. Jenny Lewis exposes her legs because she knows what sort of response that elicits. Do you think they do it (just) because it's hot and humid onstage?

(2) Talk about the--GASP--music? OK: her music is average and dull, imo. So the only interesting thing left to talk about is her looks. When I talk about Kim Gordon, Chan Marshall, or the Deal sisters I usually talk about their music, not their looks (even though I think they're all gorgeous), because there's actually somethere there to talk about.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 1:10 PM

I first remember seeing this indie-boys-liking-the music-because-they-think-the-chic-is-hot phenomenon go down among otherwise intelligent dudes when Superchunk was hitting it big. Apparently the bass player was a sex goddess to some, and that definitely helped that unremarkable band.

They were quickly eclipsed by the mindblowingly weak Liz Phair, whose music was barely listenable and who's looks certainly shouldn't have gotten her any special attention. I could go on, but you get the picture.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 1:11 PM

Cristina Martinez is the goddess...

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 4:06 PM

That chick in Hercules Atlas (or whatever the name of that band is) tops them all!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 7:00 PM

dude there is no shortage of pornography available on the internet.

why buy a $16 cd or a $50 concert ticket to fantasize pathetically about a halfway pretty girl singing when you could just see some full on nudity and fucking for just a couple of clicks??

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 7:12 PM

Because she's special!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 7:32 PM

you guys REALLY need to get laid

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2008 10:33 PM

yes! we REALLY need to get laid! so here's an idea: you ladies start delivering the goods, and we'll stop talking shit on the internets.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 10:26 AM

maybe just stop worshiping average looking untalented indie rock star girls and making them rich and famous in the process

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 10:53 AM

redheads are not average... trust me on that one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 16, 2008 7:12 PM
