Largehearted Boy's Interesting CD Releases This Week

Beck Modern GuiltOne of my most anticipated albums of the year, Beck's Modern Guilt, drops tomorrow.

The most interesting release this week combines three of my favorite things, baseball, Steve Wynn, and Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows). The Baseball Project: Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails brings these talented musicians together to share their love of America's pastime in song.

Other discs I have heard and can strongly recommend include CocoRosie's God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me 7", The Capstan Shafts' wonderfully lo-fi Fixation Protocols, Dutchess & The Duke's She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke, Patti Smith & Kevin Shields' collaboration The Coral Sea, and Ratatat's LP3.

I am definitely picking up the Fiery Furnaces' vinyl reissues of Blueberry Boat, The Fiery Furnaces EP, and Gallowsbird's Bark on vinyl. Other vinyl reissues I am buying include British Sea Power's Open Season; Xiu Xiu's Fabulous Muscles
La Foret, and my favorite M. Ward album, Transfiguration of Vincent.

What new music releases have you excited this week? Have any let you down?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 4:51 PM

beck schmeck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 4:52 PM

The new album is solid! When is he announcing tour dates and another show at Hiro Ballroom?

Posted by Beck Sniglet | July 7, 2008 4:55 PM

I refuse to buy anything by CocoRosie until they get honest with themselves and their fans and rename the band "Assfucked by Unicorns."

Posted by J | July 7, 2008 5:00 PM

somebody said something about beck dj set with dan deacon at santos party house tonight

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 5:15 PM

Why would you make up a lie like that liar?

Beck is playing a show in Paris tonight in the midst of his European tour so MAYBE he'll somehow make it to NYC to play at Santos.

Nice try buttpipe.

Posted by Medium Sized Penis | July 7, 2008 5:54 PM

You should title it "Largehearted Boy's Amazon Linkage". I think that about sums it up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 6:01 PM

Orphans is a pretty damn good song.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 6:54 PM

beck is a scientologist...is that what you all want to be supporting?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 6:56 PM

i can confirm the santogolds party house gig

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:01 PM

Anon 6:56

Grow up. Nobody cares if he is a Scientologist. Just like nobody cares that Prince is a Jehovah's witness.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:29 PM

he was raised scientologist. I think it's a safe assumption that majority of us were raised to believe some sort of religious bull honky. So based on your logic, don't support anything.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:33 PM

"somebody said something about beck dj set with dan deacon at santos party house tonight"

the stooges are also playing. giddy up!

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:38 PM

perfectly put 7:33

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:42 PM

And I suppose there was nothing wrong with buying a Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam album, knowing that he was tithing extremist Muslim clerics, back when he supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 7:58 PM

Uh, not so perfectly put 7:33? I was raised Catholic, yet I don't continue to believe and follow that "bull honky."

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 8:04 PM

Listen up, I'm the real Beck ok? Just hop on my magical bus and I'll show you the way.

Posted by Beck Reality Tour | July 7, 2008 8:44 PM

Um, how is buying a Beck record supporting a fatwa???

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 8:49 PM

What album would Jesus buy?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 8:54 PM

I would definitely pick up the Patti Smith/Kevin Shields and the Saturday Looks Good to Me EP.

Posted by Jesus | July 7, 2008 8:59 PM

But I wouldn't buy it...I would "Demonoid" it, bitches!!!!

Posted by Jesus | July 7, 2008 9:06 PM

Why you shot me in the eye? I woulda shot you in the body!"

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 9:23 PM

Bushwick BECK!

Posted by greg | July 7, 2008 10:18 PM

Jon Bon Jovi ain't sproutin' none of this junk. Youse gotta get your heads straight. Joey Pipes knows the score, and he ain't wasting his time listening to this crap.

Posted by Joey Pipes | July 7, 2008 10:21 PM

Listen up, I got a 13 inch member and Joey Pipes is the best minor league player ever.

Posted by Joey Pipes Jr Jr | July 7, 2008 10:28 PM

"Um, how is buying a Beck record supporting a fatwa???"

Well, if Beck is an active Scientologist, he gives money to that "church," and they use that money to (among other things) "recruit" vulnerable people.

Then again, Beck may no longer be popular enough to make any money off of album sales.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 10:30 PM

^^
Man, those were the days. Joey could pitch for hours back then, but he had to give up pitching. Now Joey Pipes catches in the bullpen to help warm up the new crop of pitchers. Sounds like you got promise

Posted by Joey Pipes | July 7, 2008 10:42 PM

is Prince really a Jehovah's witness?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 10:45 PM

Guys, quit taking it and just relax on this Scientology shit. Yeah, its worthless but its not like Beck is the sole supporter. Just enjoy his music and get back to punching donuts.

hating people for their religious beliefs is last world war

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2008 11:52 PM

remember when beck was hanging out with calvin johnson and william s. burroughs? yeah, he was cool then. maybe smokey plays on this one. maybe. well, it is possible so fuck off. i wish cibo matto would get back together. the world needs another record filled with food title songs. if only the beasties would put shit out on grand royal again, that'd be rad. i remember a cool poster they had with old record players on it. shit ain't the same these days, kids. i tell ya.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 12:00 AM

You know, Beck hasn't been great for over 10 years. I buy every new record he puts out and I'm always disappointed. This one is no different. It's OK but there's so many better records coming out and one only has so much time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 12:31 AM

Please tell me more about why you don't like Beck and what you do like. It would really make my day.

Posted by Ed Flanders | July 8, 2008 12:55 AM

Ed Flanders, are you being sarcastic? You silly...

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 1:02 AM

I don't even know anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 6:39 AM

"With scores like this, you could go far here. Maybe with enough training you could become a OT3."

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 8:15 AM

>>>Black Ghosts!!! Finally the album is out

oh sweet jesus. yes! the world needs YET ANOTHER band with the name "black" in the title. 'cause we sure as fuck don't have enough of them now. reeaaallll orginal boys and girls. nice going. so 2008 of you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 9:34 AM

Seriously, am I right people?

Posted by Black is the worst color there is | July 8, 2008 9:46 AM

black is the absence of color so it isn't really a color at all. so, actually, you're wrong dude.

Posted by Black is the bestest color there is | July 8, 2008 9:57 AM

black is a shade.

Posted by snark | July 8, 2008 10:13 AM

some great records out today. i think there's a dark horse in the lot...Feral Children - Second to the Last Frontier. i have the 4 song EP the label was giving away and it's really good.

Posted by cords | July 8, 2008 12:35 PM

killing people for their religious beliefs is the last world war. hating people because they are religious is something else.

since beck is still "active" in scientology, i'll be downloading his album, so as not to contribute money to him which could be used to recruit gullible people at malls into reading bad 1950s sci-fi books.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2008 2:05 PM

"oh sweet jesus. yes! the world needs YET ANOTHER band with the name "black" in the title. 'cause we sure as fuck don't have enough of them now. reeaaallll orginal boys and girls. nice going. so 2008 of you."

Make fun of their name all you will, they make good music so that's all that matters.

Posted by dirty | July 8, 2008 8:31 PM

how about brightblack morning light ?

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2008 2:00 AM

I just listened to the Moneyland Album and its great! Del McCoury and the band have been playing so long together that their arrangment of "Moneyland, " sounds more like instinct than a job. I haven't bought the album yet, but im going to now, after i listened to the CD on livinginmoneyland.com
