Maria Taylor @ Belmont Arts and Music Festival - July 6, 2008 (musicitylights)
Maria Taylor

Yesterday in San Francisco Maria Taylor's van was broken into. Maria and the band are pretty devastated as the culprits got away with 6 guitars, 2 suitcases, pedals, and plenty of merch. We're hoping some of these items may turn up online or in local San Francisco pawn shops. As you can imagine, this gear has lots of sentimental value as well. If anyone has any information, please have them send a message to info AT saddle-creek DOT com.

Maria has two more shows left with Johnathan Rice and Nik Frietas. They'll be playing with borrowed gear, but the shows will go on!

Fri-Jul-11, Los Angeles, CA, Echoplex
Sat-Jul-12, Sonoma, CA, Gundlach Bundschu Winery

Thanks so much for your support.

jonathan rice's van was broken into and someone ran off with jenny lewis. lucky bastard.

thankfully the culprit didn't run off with rice's talent. nobody knows where it is.

Um, what is the missing gear? You can't do much if you don't know what was stolen. If they were smart they have a list of serial numbers/models etc. Why don't they release this to make the gear harder to pawn? There is a lot of gear out there. That is a nice Gretsch though. If it showed up on ebay for a song, I'd look the other way :P

no surprise this happened in San Francisco. with all the homeless hippies in that city no way I'd be leaving gear in a van.

anyone who blames the band for leaving gear in a van obviously has never gone on tour before.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 10:47 AM

deal with it, we're in a recession.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 10:53 AM

I have been on tour and we never, ever leave gear in the van unattended. #1 rule of touring.

dan deacon's "guitars" will never be stolen from his "van"

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 11:27 AM

also, kanye's macbook air has been reported stolen, broken.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2008 11:28 AM

saddlecreek, you have never released a good album.

that is all.

bands beware. skip san fran on your next tour

I read a touring guide written by They Might Be Giants John Flansburg years ago that suggested investing in having a steel cage welded behind the front seats of a touring Van. Then you just park the van backed up, doors against a wall and your gear is much harder to get to. Also, the cage will keep your front seat passengers from getting squashed by a thousand pounds of gear if you crash! Sounds like a good idea.

maria will rock the house in sonoma, be it with guitars and bass or wine barrels and tin cans.

those TMBG guys are smartees, with their ABC's and their 123's.

also, dan deacon doesn't have a van. he travels by private jumbo jet only.

i think you were so fucking excited and were possibly in danger of breaking your fucking macbook air, anon you made a glaring error in your post....i think what you had meant to write was the following:

"he [dan deacon] is a private jumbo jet."

i thought of adding something to that effect with the obligatory *rimshot* but then i remembered that the deacmeister has done nothing to deserve my snark.

it's friday. don't worry, be happy.

Here's my take on gear/vans/touring. At the very least bring all of your instruments, effects, and merch inside wherever you are sleeping that evening. Leave the heavy amps and cabinets, park in the least sketchy spot you can find, and hope for the best. It's not an exact science but Maria was definitely careless.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2008 12:41 AM
