I was at Le Poisson Rouge last night for the Rite of Spring remixed thing.
Venue is awesome, super small. Used to be Life back in the day. My friend nailed that it has a strip club vibe. It really does, but the site lines are amazing and the sound was beyond pristine. If anyone sounds bad in there it is their gear or their sound person.
Oh, it is not on the menu, but they have absinthe. Being in the middle of Bleecker street creeped me out but cool venue regardless.

Not sure what Life was, but this venue was The Village Gate for 4 decades.

It was also Life in the 90s. Limelight-ish sorta vibe before the neighborhood became too New Jersey and creepy theme bar-ish.
They also had bands and became very Metal friendly in a time when Metal bands couldn't get booked. I saw Mercyful Fate and Danzig there. It was also the spot where Troma threw a pretty infamous party where Robin Leach got attacked by a 6 foot condom with fangs.
Here is an old 1997 NY Times article on Life opening at 158 Bleecker: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=990CE5DE153AF935A15752C0A961958260

Life was the Jersey-esque club after the Village Gate. Depresses me just thinking about it.
