Sled Island

Divorce and mental illness are not often hallmarks of danceable indie rock records, but they played a big part on Of Montreal's critically acclaimed 2007 release, "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?"

On "Skeletal Lamping," due Oct. 7 via Polyvinyl, "I've tried to incorporate more tension and dissonance, while still maintaining a super poppy sound," group leader Kevin Barnes tells Billboard. "I think the album is more bipolar than schizophrenic, though. I guess it represents its author more closely in that way." [BILLBOARD]

Good lord is this band ever terrible.

this band has definitely gone off the deep-end artisticly lately, but they keep on putting out some really good albums (their last ep excluded). the fact that they've completely stopped playing anything before 'satanic panic in the attic' live bothers me though. 'the gay parade' is an indie classic and its a shame that they dont even play 'fun lovin' nun' although it would fit in their set

They continue to evolve musically and theatrically. Their entire catalogue is something to be absorbed and studied. I look forward to Skeletal Lamping.

Skeletal Lamping is (gonna be) fantastic!

I am surprised no one has commented on the bald spot yet.

Look for Ahmed Gallab of Sinkane on drums.

indie bald spot.

i think they've been shit for a while. and while theatricality is great, there eventually comes a point when it surpasses the actual music and just becomes bland as fuck and they've totally crossed that line.

you idiot. Hissing Fauna was one of the best albums of 2007 by any person's evaluation, and they toured all year long. The show in March at Irving and in October at Roseland were terrific. Skeletal Lamping is going to be amazing.

this show was fucking great, and so was their last album you guys are lame. Of montreal is sweet can't wait for the next one.

Yeah, I'm the opposite of the first few comments. I like the later albums much better than the earlier ones. They're more complex and Skeletal Lamping is going to be so complex, I don't know if even I will understand it.

Skeletal Lamping is amazing! It's different from previous albums, lyric wise, and I can't wait to see them live!
