Talked to the drummer of Ponytail about this show at the Knitting Factory show the next night, he said it was disgustingly hot, I believe it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:04 PM

damn, what a sausage party...

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:05 PM

serious sausage party holy shit.

when did keanu reeves join joan of arc?

plus i wanna sex the bassist of the mae shi. he's so awkward. he totally doesn't know he's hot. that's so hot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:11 PM

yup, that show had more dick than madonna in QT's reservoir dogs monologue...

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:18 PM

haha Tim sorta does look like Keanu in that third photo

and does anyone know the model of his Guild
i'm assuming those engravings were added, but i've always loved it ever since seeing it at the 2002 Owls show at North Six.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:30 PM

>>when did keanu reeves join joan of arc?

Tim Kinsella has been pulling off the Keanu Reeves long before Keanu Reeves started growing facial hair.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:33 PM

i love when the mae shi does the baptism white sheet thing. hilarious.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:35 PM

whoa that's some seriously strong flash. unless they got some lights in there. great shots.

Posted by lori | July 24, 2008 11:53 PM

I'M SO STRONG!
I'M VERY NICE!
LEIA'S HOT!!!!!
I RULE!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by LEIA JOSPE'S FLASH | July 25, 2008 12:07 AM

You're glad I'm alive? Fuck you, asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:12 AM

leia has good flash!

Ponytail is the greates band in the world right now, I think.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:34 AM

I apologize to anyone and everyone who was near the stage during the mae shi that night.

signed, "that kid"

Go P.T.!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:48 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:52 AM

One hot party, wish I were there.

Posted by Paula | July 25, 2008 7:46 AM

did you guys see Ponytail at the yard? this is just awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCiOTvX2PCo

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 8:28 AM

8:28 - thanks for posting that. Holy shit. I saw them at knit and Merc, but the crowd energy at both places, except in pockets, wasn't even CLOSE to what's on that video. damn, I need to see more shows in bklyn.

Posted by c | July 25, 2008 8:53 AM

Im sorry I took my shirt off. Really sorry.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 9:05 AM

It was insanely uncomfortable, probably the most humid night of the season. Knitting Factory the next night was less rambunctious, but more physically tolerable.

Posted by Liz | July 25, 2008 9:48 AM

during the Ponytail show at knit someone in the audience yelled out about Market Hotel, and Molly said she got physically sick at that show, didnt say if it was from the heat or she just wasnt feeling well.

and yeah, the vid is amazing, the happy birthaday part and when molly goes up to crowd surf, and all the people are holding her up, it looks like such an amazing emotional moment.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:06 AM

very homo-erotic..

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:09 AM

your pictures suck

Posted by asshole | July 25, 2008 10:16 AM

although the camera was a bit shaky (the mae shi vid), that was a FUCKING AWESOME vid! makes you feel like you were there at the show.

What time were the bands on, btw?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:28 AM

i unfortunately missed this one, so i'm not sure about times for bands, but i'd be willing to bet that bands played through the evening into the night.

the knit was great great great as was sunday the 20th at new brunswick's junkyard palace.

at the knitting factory, tim kinsella played "let's wrestle" and neil young's "a man needs a maid" as an encore before doing two more songs as encore part two with the rest of the band.

so, joan of arc are amazing.

Posted by Henry McCool | July 25, 2008 10:52 AM

The Death Set also played this show... they had trouble getting there so most people left after the mae shi, but they played only about 20 minutes later. The entire show was amazing. and amazingly hot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:04 AM

bobby burg has a sweet mouth

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:10 AM

muggabears, joan of arc, ponytail, mae shi portion of the night ended about 11:45. death set didn't even SHOW UP at the venue for another half an hour.

show was on schedule, except that death set are flakes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:49 AM

thanks for info, 11:49

it's weird, for as hot as it was (and it was fucking hot!) the bands don't look all that sweaty in these pictures.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:12 PM

WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME! WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME!

Posted by warnberh | July 25, 2008 12:15 PM

I spoke to Molly after the show and amazingly all she had to say was YEEAAHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHH" and "WAHHHHHHH AAAHHHHHHHHHHH"
Honestly i do like this band but........you know.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:49 PM

these bands are cockercocks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 12:54 PM

guys - most bands you are lucky if you have 1 or 2 great players, Ponytail has 3- great lead singer, great drummer and a guitarist with major chops. Add to that originality of their compositions plus those live shows, all the ingredients are there. I just hope major labels dont fuck with their heads.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:09 PM

Wait, 1:09 I will agree with you on the drummer and the guitarist. Actually all three of the guys are great. But to say great lead singer. Ahhh cmon now. She DOES NOT sing. She might be a very entertaining thing to watch but leaping around yelling nonsensical phrases and once in a while some actual words is not what makes a great lead singer. Let's just calm down here a bit before this gets ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:19 PM

"great lead singer"
hmmm. sound more like a muppet trying to get a toddler's attention
Weeeeee!.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:20 PM

that chick in ponytail is a complete embarrassment to the great musicians she's on stage with.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:33 PM

i think ninjasonik was on stage with the death set too. can anyone confirm that? i was there, but i've never seen either band before so i dunno exactly what was going on. i just know they completely altered musical styles every other song. they also briefly covered prince.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:33 PM

Hey all. Small review of Ponytail at the Knit on Tue if you click on my name. Thx!

Posted by snailboy | July 25, 2008 1:34 PM

1:33 -- sorry, have to disagree. She's a terrific performer, completely uninhibited, and what she does onstage & vocally is totally in synch with the kind of dynamic, hyper, joyous music these guys make. You think the crowds in all these videos people are posting are responding like nuts only to the songs themselves? The songs are fucking awesome -- but so is the energy she brings to them. one would be insufficient without the other.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:39 PM

there is indeed an art to screaming

sm=0

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 1:53 PM

wasnt mtv at this show? is that not a big deal?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:05 PM

i agree with 1:39.
we hear the same not a great singer thing get thrown at Karen O, but this isnt opera, this is punk/indie rock.

And I think the total lack of big rock star moves, the lack of bullshit rock star pretensions and the fact that they look just like their audience, that adds to the connection between the audience and the band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:10 PM

I got to take a step in here to these last comments because as someone said earlier this is just getting fucking silly.

If you even begin to try to compare Karen O and Molly, you should be taken out and shot. Maybe when Molly writes some lyrics then you can make a comparison.

A great uninhibited performer? Are you 14 years old? Iggy Pop was/is a great uninhibited performer. This girl just jumps and walks around the stage and stares up and gyrates. She has got a bit of ways to go.

And for god's sake justifying all this by saying look at how people respond on here and at the shows. Kids do this at a Dan Deacon show and he is the biggest joke walking.

On the same note, MTV or more to the point the schmuck John Norris being at these shows is not a sign that it is a big deal. MTV has no credibility or influence on anything anymore. No one gives a shit what they think. It is unfortunately a sign of lameness creeping in when John Norris shows up to your events.

Agreeing with a few others that this band is made up of some great musicians making a great little racket but keep it real people.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 25, 2008 2:20 PM

muggabears rule!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:22 PM

mtv was at market hotel? seriously what is there current obsession? like can they not let something live for just a little while? they ruin everything. i bet john norris planned it. since he's so into lo-fi apparently. AND ALSO EVERYWHERE.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:25 PM

Oh i forgot also what is this stupidity about looking just like their audience and having no rock star pretensions. HAHA, dude, up to this point they basically are only playing glorified house parties. They are a bunch of young kids in a young band. What rock star bullshit could they be pulling?

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 25, 2008 2:25 PM

A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole noone cares what you think.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:27 PM

I agree, I hope MTV stays out of this, everything they touch turns to shit.

New York Noise channel 25 on the other hand, that would be cool...

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:32 PM

"A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole noone cares what you think.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 2:27 PM"

Well not that i would even care at all but who do you speak for Anon fuckhead. Did i miss the notice sent out that Anon 2:27 speaks for the masses. Go fuck yourself

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 25, 2008 2:37 PM

^^^^ I care what this guy says.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 4:26 PM

New York Noise is far too busy covering twee music made by 35 year olds to cover anything in Bushwick

that said, MTV was only there filming the Mae Shi, nothing about Market Hotel or Bushwick or Todd P

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 4:57 PM

whaever one might think of MTV, John Norris, Bushwick, or Todd P... we can all agree: A Manhattan not Brooklyn Asshole is an enormously uninformed jackass, his comments are would be laughably irrelevant - if they were even funny!

I implore you, AMNBA, please post your myspace or your facebook link so we can put a face to your inanity! I would look forward to telling you what a fuck you are in person, at a show.

Only... I can tell from the vastly clueless vibe of every single comment you post that you never even attend any of the shows for which you have such fabulously boisterous overblown dumbass opinions!

Float on, huge shithead! float on!

Awww the same loser jackass from before really got upset this time. Wow did i have you seething and actually its hilarious.
But just to emphasize the points once again. Who do you speak for when you say we can all agree? I still have not got a straight answer to that. You seem to think your dumb ass speaks for a large group of people. Maybe you should see a psychologist to figure out those voices in your head. Also as i have stated before please be specific and tell me how I am clueless and uninformed. Be specific you bitter bitch. You can't cause you may not like what i have to say but it is far from uninformed or clueless or dumb. Truth is i have been to probably way many more shows then you have and any comment i have made about a show I always say if i did not go to it. Unlike you Mr dumbass who is so incensed at someone's opinion that you have to make a comment about it without having anything to do with what the thread is about. Now that is the clear sign of a hugely unintelligent jackass with zero life and zero self worth.

I await the next comment from you after you have sufficiently boiled over with anger.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 25, 2008 5:39 PM

mtv > new york noise

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 5:52 PM

5:05 sounded pretty dang calm to me, amnba

it's you who seems to be ranting and raving. who is it you think this guy is? a well-spoken person?

I suppose if I were as monosyllabicly name calling and slow witted as you, I would think all intelligent people spoke in the same voice as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:32 PM

hey amnba. maybe no one wants to dissect your arguments because, firstly, they're inane and trite, but more importantly, because you'll just come back redfaced, calling your critics names.

drop the temper, take a deep breath before you pick up the keyboard, and try not to type before you have really thought out what it is you're trying to say.

you're mostly just making people tune out of whatever thread you're posting on. Unless this is meant as performance art, I would think that would make you self conscious about the quality of what you're saying.

If you look back at the last month's posts you'll find that the number of comments consistently drops off significantly whenever amnba joins the conversation. People simply don't want to talk anymore if this guy is in the room.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:45 PM

hey, wait, why is John Norris a schmuck? just because he works for big media? that seems like a kind of unfair and thin criticism to make of a journalist. I remember him filing some pretty reasonable copy back when I last watched MTV regularly. Granted, that was back in the mid 90s, but has something changed John Norris-wise that I don't know about? Did he try to open someone's basement vault and only found dirt or something?

Otherwise, why are you so stridently dissing the guy?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:53 PM

New York Noise... hmmm. It's sad because I'd really like to love it, but it's just... ok.

WAY too much lite indie pop.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:13 PM

I really would like to step in here and strike a blow on the side of AMNBA. If nothing else because I do believe that 10:32 and 10:45 are the same person and is probably the same guy from earlier. I mean the words they use and what they say are so basically the same.

Plus only a pretty stupid person would hold up a phrase like "Float on, huge shithead! float on!" as being the work of an intelligent guy.

As i see it man, you really are the one who is angry and delusional. AMNBA actually sized you up pretty well.

I find AMNBA's comments neither inane or trite. Although somewhat childish at times, whoever it is seems to be pretty intelligent. He called you out man and you ran from it with a bad excuse. And I just looked at some of the places he made comments and see no trace of your argument that they drop off after he comments. I see a lot of the times he comments late in the day. If you are a heavy reader of this blog you know that most of the heavy traffic comes during the day when people are at work. Once 5-6 O clock rolls around they drop off dramatically.

So my suggestion angry guy is to chill out. Spend some time outside having a life. Whoever AMNBA is probably does not give a hoot what you have to say and frankly he is making you look pretty silly.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 12:44 AM

a manhattan not brooklyn asshole has learned how to post anonymously to defend himself.

actually, he's done this a few times, but before this he was juts posting as anonymous in order to agree with himself. usually something like "I agree with what he said".

now he's actually fighting other people and signing it anonymous, as his own sidekick. what a neat guy!

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 12:49 AM

what's the same about all these guys posts? that they use intelligent language?

maybe your enemies are just.... smart?

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 12:53 AM

no one aside from amnba and his anonymous alter ego think that amnba's critics are "angry"

amnba is startin to sound a tad defensive though

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 12:56 AM

no one except a manhattan not brooklyn gives a fuck about any of this shit

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:02 AM

12:44 here. I had to know that this was going to happen. Being accused of being AMNBA. Of course I am not AMNBA but by the same token I will accuse the last 3 comments, 12:49, 12:53, and 12:56 of all being the same angry guy from before just waiting to pounce. I have seen other people defend AMNBA but I guess man you can accuse them all of being him and at the same time he will accuse you of being all these negative disparagers of him.

Guess what? It will all add up to a whole lot of nothing. AMNBA will continue to make comments and you will continue to try and attack him to no avail. You actually come out looking more the bitter loser but hey Cest La Vie. So good luck in your blog war man.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:07 AM

1:07 wants none of it!

because he wants none of it *so* much, he's looked up and copied down a whole lotta time stamps!

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:14 AM

who gives a shit, its clear amnba will never ever on his life reveal his true identity because he is on too many peoples shit list by now.

cant believe im posting on this site before going to sleep.

amnba is not all stupid, but his arguement that this Molly chick has to write some lyrics before she can be compared to Karen O is pretty stupid. Let me quote Karen's most famous lyric: "wait, they dont love you like I love you" repeat line x 25. We're not talking fucking romantic poets here or ezra pound, its freaking rock lyrics.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:33 AM

a manhattan not brooklyn asshole is one a those dudes with a whole lot more insult than insight.

like most regulars here, he says some intelligent things from (occasional) time to time. but his problem is that he likes to call anyone with a different opinion a fool or a moron or a bitch, and so on.

that kind of childish shit just hurts the eyes, nobody wants to read that. I agree with the guy above that people tune out of threads when he shows up. That's bummer because I like reading this blog and the comments, even with the high percentage of shit talking and insults. But amnba takes it to the point where it's just tacky, and boring.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:44 AM

anybody who defines himself as an asshole
(and thinks thats funny, presumably), isn't worth talking about

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:59 AM

I dunno, I think me and my buds calling ourselves just a coupla big assholes hanging out is HILARIOUS

I'm sure that manhattan asshole is totally funny the same way

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 2:00 PM

"And I think the total lack of big rock star moves, the lack of bullshit rock star pretensions and the fact that they look just like their audience, that adds to the connection between the audience and the band."

I kind of agree with you here, but you do realize this kind of mentality also makes live shows INCREDIBLY FUCKING BORING. are bands more "authentic" if they do that? the only people that can get away with that are My Bloody Valentine. sometimes artifice is incredibly useful if it complements the music that is going along with it (PJ Harvey '95 tour). it seems like people either (a) try too hard to be "real" on stage or (b) completely fucking overdo it (Of Montreal).

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 3:21 PM

3:21 is off on some weird tangent

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 6:37 PM

Ahahahahahaha too funny just reading this. To My stalker who apparently has no life cause he is posting over and over on a Friday night pretending to be different people.

YOU ARE A HUGE FUCKING LOSER.

but you made me laugh when i just saw all of this.

Nice try buddy with your attempts. I personally loved the "i can't believe i am posting on this site before i sleep" bullshit. Hilarious

Just to say a few things in response to your idiocy.

I was at the Ween show and then the Sound of Urchin/Tragedy show on Fri night. I would be happy to answer any and all specific questions about either show as proof.

I only actually read this blog and post comments during the week while i am at work like most of the people on here.

If you really think i give a shit whose blog "shit list" i am on then you are an even bigger loser than you have already shown. And i truly hope that my comments make you stay away from reading this blog. One less moron fuckhead.

Oh and I love the Karen O lyric you highlighted. Where did you get that that was her most famous lyric first of all? It Is not but even if it were at least it is a lyric. At least she writes actual english phrases for her songs.. So yes comparing Molly from Ponytail to Karen O is pretty ridiculous.

But please continue to think every comment made in support of me is done by myself and keep getting angry and seethe at my comments. It is wonderful.

"manhattan asshole resurrects a days old thread just because someone mentioned him, lol."

Yes and? I responded to a pathetic loser's comments about me. I would have responded at the time but I actually have a life and was out.
